bigstraight6 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I don't know about you chaps, but I'd gladly drive a fuel tanker working an average of 37 hours a week and earning circa £45,000 p/a, most weeks I work double those hours and for less renumeration usually unless I'm having a very good time of it sales wise which hasn't been the case for the last few years, yet the tanker drivers still want more. They really are in danger of having a massive swing of public opinion against them if the proposed strike and the chaos that follows goes ahead, and I shouldn't think all the other heavy goods drivers out there who earn nothing like they do and quite often having to sleep nights in a cab will be in any way sympathetic.
dollywobbler Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Don't think we really need another rant on this. See Grumpy thread. Think all that needs to be said has been said really!
Autoplas Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Why not ? I for one agree with the OP.They earn a bloody fortune already and this is greed, nothing more or less.
Ross_K Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I don't know about you chaps, but I'd gladly drive a fuel tanker working an average of 37 hours a week and earning circa £45,000 p/a, How fuckin much? For driving a tanker? You could employ two, maybe three Polish drivers for that money. Some people don't know they're born...
Autoplas Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Why not ? Because it's another crap thread . And define crap thread.... Spam about leather pants - crap threadOddly specific questions about Protons - crap threadRelevant observation about motoring related current affairs - not crap thread
ProgRocker Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I can only dream of a job earning £45k a year.
Spiny Norman Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I dreamt of driving a Proton while wearing leather pants the other night if anyone's interested?....
warren t claim Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I can only dream of a job earning £45k a year. Do cat C LGV £900Do CPC £400ishDo Cat C+E £800Do ADR course for packages and tanks £750 You then simply walk into your nearest Hoyer depot and say "If I earned £50,000 a year I'd buy my bird a new set of tits AND SHOW YOU THE PHOTOS! Can you raise £3k on your visa card for training?
cms206 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I can only dream of a job earning £45k a year. Can you raise £3k on your visa card for training? Is Cat C and C+E training down to £900? My mate was looking at it and he was nearer £1300 with one of the local mobs. Back on topic-ish, I get paid in broken biscuits and washers to drive 92 screaming fuckwits to and from school every day. Although they are a volatile load, if some fucking moron decides to drive into me, my 1995 Dennis Dragon will not explode into a million pieces and blow a crater the size of a small village into the road on which I was perambulating at the time. For this reason alone, if I were to pilot a 50-odd foot long articulated bomb through the streets I'd want £50k a year as well.
lancashireclamper Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I'm not 100% savvy with this proposed strike but aren't the Tanker jockey's issues with health and safety practices rather than wages?
warren t claim Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I'm not 100% savvy with this proposed strike but aren't the Tanker jockey's issues with health and safety practices rather than wages? Yep. Think about this. A tanker driver earns good money so if he chooses to strike over conditions and SAFETY it might be worth listening to him as he's not going to be making £1,000 a week if he's on strike. As he's probably got a big mortgage, Audi S5 and a Florida time share to pay for I'm sure he'd rather be out on the road earning.
Lankytim Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I haven't met any drivers who are on 45k and only do 37 hours a week! I think the issues revolve around work being subcontracted through about 10 different companies and health N safety being pushed to the absolute limit.
dollywobbler Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 And politicians going "oooh, look how much these poor tanker drivers get paid?" to take the heat off themselves and their massive salaries, expenses, pension pots and other f*ck-ups that they'd rather you didn't look too closely at right now. Like their desperate attempts to ruin the NHS and to privatise as much as possible. I'm actually very angry about politics for the first time in quite a while (dossier time I think). Well done Cameron!
Negative Creep Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 So when was the last recorded instance of a petrol tanker exploding?
lancashireclamper Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 How many have to explode before we start to think; You know what, the drivers DID have a point after all?
trigger Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Sorry but I'm with dolly on this, I just clicked on the GOM thread and there's the exactly same posts on there on this subject. Can't we have more threads on shite old cars again like we used too?
dollywobbler Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 And I've been posting in this thread despite complaining about it...
rml2345 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 If a road tanker can take up to 30 tonnes worth of highly volatile liquid and the chap who pilots it is having concerns over safety... I for one would be quite interested to hear what they have to say. Why the hell neither the gummit or the firms are interested beggars belief.Dolly is probably right, they've jumped on this to distract the public from dismantling the NHS in England and generally being quite shit at being in charge. That ERF looks nice though.
Des Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I don't read papers or watch the news, angrys up the blood, but from reading this thread I surmise that some petrol tanker drivers are concerned over safety, nobody's listening so they find themselves forced to take drastic action. I suggest it's a good thing they are that scrupilous, and thus deserve a good salary. I know I don't want Mr. Benny Overbite on minimum wage piloting a tanker past my house. Gummint has now instructed the great unwashed to panic buy, and the worthless peons have done just what they're told, in doing so providing a nice revenue boost for the gummint and creating the problem. Fuck but there's some hopeless dross making up the population. I'll leave this here.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qX777sKJnAE
bigstraight6 Posted March 29, 2012 Author Posted March 29, 2012 Apologies for apparently upsetting some patrons as this is already on the aptly named grumpy thread, but I'm not that anal that I have to read every word of every thread
warren t claim Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Anyone got any pics of old Suttons of StHelens tankers with the Union Jack on the front?
Split_Pin Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 The tankers drivers havent even gone on strike yet but I couldnt get unleaded tonight. The people we should really be ripping therefore, are the thick, selfish cunts who are panic buying fuel. Anyway, here's a GR8 tanker:
