Here's the new Ford Transit.

It'll obviously sell well but I'm not so sure about the styling. :|

The front is too long, probably for OMGNCAP, but doesn't look balanced at all - and like most other vans on the market.

I've not liked the Transit since they facelifted it tbh, not really that keen on this version either.

Looks horrid to me, are they still going to be made in the Uk or going abroad? Resembles a pessary with that nose.

Jesus, it looks like someone melted a fiesta onto the front.

Jesus, it looks like someone hammered a smaller Ford onto the front.

EFA

(Someone had to do it)

Are they made in the UK now? I thought they were made in Turkey or somewhere like that.

That looks awful  . It looks like some cross between the current crop of small Fiat whatever/Peugeot Expert/Citroen Dispatch and a Hyundai and the Hyundai iLoad.

What is it with Ford and that 'fish mouth' grille thing they have going at the moment? Mind you, knowing Ford and it’s seemingly monthly 'Ford's new face' slot in Auto Express magazine, it'll disappear quickly with any luck.

With regards to the current Transit, the 2000-2006 models were dreadful in terms of reliability judging from the experiences of them in my last job. I never did warm to the front end styling either. The 2006 to present models, the big headlight jobbies, seem to be a little better in terms of reliability (although we've had two 60 plate models gone in with disintegrated clutch plates and another currently in dock as the big end has gone - left he driver stranded in Somerset last week) and I've grown to be quite fond of the styling.

Just bring back the pre 2000 models - with better rust proofing of course. They may have been slow, but at least they were pleasing on the eye (for a van) and generally went on forever given basic servicing.

Oh dear. Like Ford's cars, it's not exactly distinctive is it? What I loved about the current Transit is that it somehow manages to look a bit different, while also being very van-shaped.

Looks quite Vito-ish at the side (from behind the front door), could live with the headlights but the grille looks awful. It'll probably sell quite well as if you read (or believe) the horror stories it seems almost all new vans are rubbish and Transits have had quite a following in their time.

I'm with Mk5 Escort here, the pre-2000 ones were ace just let down by rust mostly. Some of them could go pretty well, others were dire but they were pretty reliable and simple old things.

Speaking of iLoads, are they any good? Don't think I 've seen any in the wild...As has been discussed previously, I'm always puzzled by the fact that Asian manufacturers struggle to sell vans in this country...

Some are still being made in the UK but my understanding is that the Southampton factory will only be making vans with just cabs on a bare chassis... The kind they then use to create tippers, drop sides, lutons etc. (I dont know if they make any of these in house or if they are all farmed out to custom builders.)

In anycase I don't think they are going to be making the run of the mill vans there anymore.

Erm... the tinted screen might not be a good idea with the rozzers.

It's Ford's corporate design so everything they make has to have it, it's the same with VW. Agree there'll be a new design, they seem to facelift quite quick these days.

looks like a fiat to me.... i wish fords would stop pissing about with all these fuggin face lifts...

you look at their forecourt now and you have to walk to the back of the car to see what model it is

Looks like our Septic cousins are going to get the Transit to replace the Econoline. No pansy Duratoss DMF shite for them though.

"Ford has announced that buyers of the van that will eventually replace the aged Econoline in America will be able to order Ford's twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that puts power to the Transit's rear wheels. Ford hasn't released any specifics on power output or fuel economy just yet, but the same engine is good for a heavenly 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque when bolted to the F-150 where it accounts for 40 percent of sales.

Even in that heavier chassis, the EcoBoost V6 returns 18 mpg combined compared to 23 mpg combined for the smaller Transit Connect Van with its 136-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Ford also hasn't said what we can expect in terms of tow rating or gross vehicle weight, though those are certain to keep pace with the current E-Series van as a result of the staggering amount of torque available from the turbocharged, direct-injection Ecoboost V6."

MUCH wantage!

why have they put the prop shaft higher than the rear axle line? I thought that the point of hypoid gears was to get the prop shaft lower for a lower floor line. Surely a van should have as low a floor as possible?

Posted

The floor of a van has to be flat, so they have to put it level with the highest thing which is probably the top of the diff. So there's no point lowering the prop really, might as well have it nice and high up out of the way of stuff.

Although I suppose the diff top could be lowered a if the prop came out under the axle. So disregard everything I just said.

I'll be keeping my M plate one thanks.

Only the big ones of the late models have been RWD IIRC. Wonder if that'll remain the same with these fugly new ones?

The spiritual successor to the Rover V8 engined LDV 400? I wonder if any public services will order any over here, like the Polis and Ambulance lot did with LDVs in the '80s? If so, one of these beauties might fall into shiters' hands in a few years. One of these would be GR8 for chod-hauling duty.

Looks like (from the outline in the picture) they might be getting the current bodyshape, whereas in the UK we'll be getting the new one. :?
