The Humber is lovely - how did you do the wood effect on the Cortina?

That's original, Corgi made it part of the same moulding that forms the interior.

Thanks to a tip-off on the Miniature Ebay Tat thread, I now have a very tidy Norev 'Mini-Jet'  Alfa 6 (in a blue too!), to slot into the previously-owned cars shelf of the real-life Alfa Sei I saved from doom some years ago and got back on the road

IMG_0957.thumb.JPG.246ec11fd11edc87b858ea244b7a51c9.JPG

Never seen another.  Thought this would run away, but it didn't

IMG_0955.thumb.JPG.044ccfb47f6cd525430330690ebc740c.JPG

Being a Norev it wears a French plate, this one from Department 69: Rhône

Tiny Tom likes the opening things

IMG_0954.thumb.JPG.1da3b21803e089195294f4136b85125a.JPG

Dashboard and centre console are surprisingly modelled too

Twin headlamps make it a first series, whereas mine was a second.  But no matter, there is very little in the way of alternatives.  The real car now lives with a collector in Yorkshire

Looks like a 505 that does.

What were they knocking the diecast out at or was it one of those ‘all different prices m8, just pick what you like then we’ll come to an agreement’ Cue a price resembling a Chicago phone number... 🤣

Possibly - but as he was after £5 each on the bigger stuff I didn't really look at any of it. Next to it was a Corgi Unimog with most excellent suspension  - but too broken to consider. Now I want one

I've got to try and track down the Roadkill/Roadkill Garage episodes with the Dodge Rampage in, so I can try and make my replica a bit more accurate. I did try just taking the tampos off the new Hot Wheels casting but it didn't work, so got a repaint and some artificial aging, plus removal of the towbar, not to mention the trike that was in the bed!

I mentioned earlier about the Fire Chief version of the Matchbox Dodge Monaco wagon.  Of course today I realised I actually have one!

I suppose I need the yellow one now!  And a fairly decent beige one, and a couple of run-down Fire variants to paint as police cars.  Dear me, this could get frighteningly expensive!

I think the Alfa 6 is one of my all time favourites, it was so typically Italian, 6 carburettors ffs! They knew that it was only going to sell to Italian Government members but they went on and made it regardless. Hopefully it still survives!

It was supposed to be sunny today so I could take nice pictures of stuff. I finished the Guiloy Taunus, it's a bit of an odd casting when you're used to Matchbox etc, the dash is part of the main body but the headlights, grille and centre of the bumpers are part of the base. Nice door card detail though.

The doors were a pain, they just don't fit well and chip the paint when opened, so you'll have to take my word for it that I painted the door cards to match the interior. I thought beige was a good choice for a Cortina Taunus

Late arrivals for Tat Wednesday!

Found another of the cartoon-like Polistil cars, 2CV

Another strange Polistil - 1:55 Lancia Beta but looking like it might be a key car, not seen this before

Candidate for a Super GT reshell is this RS2000. Problem is the windscreen, how will I get all this gold shit off?

The body is bent but everything is there. I have a wheel less Super GT shell, use the metal base, glass and interior from the first one. Wheels? I don’t know what, I’ll play that by ear.

I always feel a bit guilty painting them when they’ve gone 40 odd years with the original paint.

Carefully. My preference would be sanding and polishing, you can try caustic (but not too hot bearing in mind it will make the water hotter when you add it), or DoT3 brake fluid. I've heard people swear by sterilising fluid or oven cleaner. There are loads of methods out there but I just don't like chemicals as sometimes it ruins the clear plastic irreversibly.

This was already sun faded but brake fluid made it go dark brown

And my early Corgi Mangusta now has frosted glass. Luckily Steve Flowers does replacements

They can live another 40 years once they're renovated. I quite like the GT base as it has working suspension, either way paint the valances to match

IMG_20191001_110853_648

Or use the GT glazing for that "gangsta" look

20191125_104108

Or be really subtle and put Superfast glass and interior in a GT

I’ve got an ex @Datsuncog Mk2 that’s in really bad shape somewhere, could retain the blacked out windows and cut it open where the doors are. Thinking maybe radiant red. Like every RS2000 I remember was when they were just old bangers.

On original ones or repaints? Other than baking the paint I don't think you can do a lot, other than being careful with them.

Anything will be an improvement. I'd probably try and heat up and straighten the roof, nothing to lose if it goes wrong anyway

You read my mind! That’s what the leftovers will be making.

The she’ll is straight now and in some primer. Obviously conventional would dictate it would be Red or Signal Yellow. No. This is Autoshite. It will be brown.

Inspired by the ones @flat4alfa picked up recently, I grabbed a few more Lone Star Tuff Tots

20210715_16195320210715_16202520210715_16205420210715_16220520210715_16222520210715_162242

From the tiny to the enormous, I saw a lot with some dark, grainy pictures and took a chance. Main prize was this Corgi Major Chubb Pathfinder Airport Crash Truck, quite a big title for a big vehicle

20210715_16290720210715_16284420210715_16291220210715_16310520210715_16311420210715_163534

Aha, it DOES STUFF. Plugging in a PP3 saw nothing happening, the one video I can find of one seems to suggest there should be a separate hand operated pump and hose that connects at the back, then the siren goes off when water is flowing. I'll track down some washer pipe or similar and try it.

Even longer but not quite as heavy is this Corgi Major Discharge Dumper(!) with hand operated bits to drop a load(!), disconnect the cab and drop the jockey wheels

Well I've finished the battered Mercury that was donated to my pile of jobs to do by Dick Longbridge a few months back.
It looked like it'd escaped the oval following a horrific roll...
image.thumb.jpeg.5699e3abfac4968211d32845ca81b609.jpeg

...but the roof straightened out surprisingly well, new glass was available, and some wheels from Bunglebus finished the job off...

image.thumb.jpeg.e1e66fc2dfd6a57f16af12dacbd6e3ab.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.a770b10699c8043d8bce7b5bba452f51.jpeg

...I'm really chuffed with that and I've thoroughly enjoyed doing it.

Next, I'm moving on to this Escort which I 'customised' when I was about 10 years old...

image.thumb.jpeg.77bfa6e15809da250d76c929842a53fa.jpeg

...it's in a bad way though. Bent roof, cracked pillars, butchered rivets and sitting on a Corgi Rockets chassis (held together with Bluetac).

That Mercury's turned out really well, especially given how damaged it was. MK1 has a bit of a "Henry Hirise" look about it currently
