Shite in Miniature II

Having had a bit of a ponder, I'm happy to let the ZIL 117 go to whoever wants it (since I already have one of those), and also the Moskvitch Aleko, which is in really good nick but somehow doesn't really grab me like the others - so £5 each on those two!

I think the Chaika will be staying for now, as the predecessor to my GAZ 3102 - although it's missing some side trim and the spare wheel. Having had a look online, it's unlikely I'll be forking out for a better original version - though if a De Agostini version cropped up, that might fill the gap well enough.

Likewise, I'll be holding on to the two UAZ commercials for now (though I'll need to think about what to do with the missing axle on the Bukhanka) - will try to take some better pics later.

I think the Aleko was sold under the Novoexport brand - and my goodness, the prices on eBay!

UAZ 469 has fantastic detail, and seems a bit more common in online sales.

I had plastic one of these in military green, still boxed and with an opening bonnet, but sold it on a while ago. I also have a more recent cheapo partwork example via Poundland, but this one has a lot of charm.

Weirdly, I don't get the same appeal off the Aleko; I don't know why. Such is the mystique of old toys.

There really isn't much holding the doors to the Bukhanka on!

Simple curved tabs going into a slot in the plastic interior moulding, with the merest bump to (not quite) stop them coming off. Only a hinge in the very loosest sense of the word.

I'm amazed they're still on, frankly!

Not quite sure what to make of this. Very lovely Auto Pilen MK1 Renault 5 in display case

only problem is, what I ordered was actually a MK1 Fiesta in the same livery...

Sacrilege!

I do like the Renault to be fair, but the Fiesta edges it. We'll see what the seller says.

You just know that on another model car forum, somewhere in the world, the flipside of this conversation is being played out...

(I very nearly did the same last week - in a rush, multiple parcels, two buyers with the same name...)

I have done it myself with two Hot Wheels, but strangely only one of the buyers complained.

I've had a look at his listings and I think he's used the same photos on a previous listing, so I suspect he's made an error and the Fiesta has gone to an earlier buyer

Where can he be found?  Under what name?

Some very nice looking Rockets there, including the OHMSS Cougar in quite decent fettle!

Excellent haul - I'd say if you pulled those in for less than £60, you're doing well.

I've got a couple of those Escorts but not in as nice condition. There are several different colour interiors etc but the one I really want is the Daily Mirror version with exterior roll bars - got outbid on just the body of one recently

Pretty much mint, with all dealer paperwork and a local address on the service log.

Chod-tastic.

If this makes a reappearance upon your next visit, I’d love it.

It's a bit more than that as I found out to my cost excitement.

The Whizzwheels and the Rockets variations not only have different bases - the body locating pins are in different places too.  My Rockets base won't fit my Whizzwheels body and versa-vice.  So different body castings.  Beware of this if you try to be cheap like me and try and be clever, circumventing the asking prices.  I think I mentioned this before on this thread.

I had assumed, wrongly, that a Rockets base would swap with a standard base.  My old childhood Whizzwheels Escort suffered a snapped base, ooooh.... thirty years ago.  Got hold of a Rockets base off Eddy Spares - but it doesn’t fit, not even nearly!  I never expected that they had cast a different body shell too

Found it ^

Thankfully, with thanks to Amishtat Supplies Inc; I have another complete Whizzwheels Escort in need of a repaint and glazing polishing.  So all is well with the world

Hang on, no it isn't.  I'm tier 4.

So was it you that bought the Rockets body to go on your Rockets base?

The Juniors version probably came from a car boot. The Rockets car has been around for 40-odd years, but I've got no idea where it came from.Hopefully,it will get repainted back into the OHMSS version at some point.

Not me no.  Never seen that spare Rockets body before

That was the one I bid on and lost, not that I have a base for it.

I did find myself down another internet rabbit hole looking at Corgi Escort variations

Corgi Kiko 3

Anyone heard of Kiko before? Apparently they used various manufacturer's castings or moulds to reduce costs in Brazil.

There are loads of Corgis in colours we never got

Yes, unfortunately I knew about Radio Taxi.   In fact you've guessed the clone I wanted to make with the @amishtat Inc. donor....   @Datsuncog has mentioned Kiko a few times

Not the Majorette link though.  Wish I didn't though - why do you do this to us before bedtime!  I've got to be proper up in the morning, running an IT course on dullard cloud stuff

Poliguri?

Right, I'm off down another rabbit hole.

From Wiki:

Quote

In the late 1970s to early 1980s, the Brazilian toy firms of Inbrima and Kiko manufactured Majorette models under license. By producing locally, Majorette benefited by avoiding duties on importing from France.

Flat4alfa's comment about doing this before bedtime really made me laugh, I often find myself wandering about on the internet looking at oddball diecasts or something related to them when I really should be asleep.

It seems Poliguri aren't officially anything to do with Siku, but they had some remarkably similar features, especially the wheels/tyres

However:

Metchy was licensed to make SIKU castings in Hungary for distribution under the Metchy name

Not much about them available, but this 928 looks very similar to the Matchbox version

As does the MK2 Golf GTI
