I enjoy having models at both ends of the condition scale in the collection.

reckon the secret is to buy what you enjoy, not just as an investment. If you can't help but smile when you cast your eye over your collection,  you're probably doing it right.

I have some boxed cars, but I think I view the box as just protection for the car inside, they don't have any nostalgic value for me as I honestly don't remember what my childhood cars looked like in the toy shop, I just remember playing with them.

Stuff in blister packs frustrates me as I don't want to destroy the packaging but I do want to have the car in my hand rather than looking at it through a window. Toys were meant to be played with, those ones never were.

Some of the best finds for me are cars that have been clearly loved and looked after, but with their fair share of chips and marks. If they're really bad I get to enjoy re-doing them and making them unique.

Value only matters to me when I want something that is in demand, I can't bring myself to pay large amounts of money for a toy car, I collect what I like not to make an investment.

Having said that, I have bought a couple recently that were way more than I'd normally spend, just because they don't come up for sale often.

Sky = hazey shade of winter.

And it's Friday, so...

New arrivals.

1913241089_IMG_20201113_0816082.thumb.jpg.d951a1cc935165b212caa3223e80ae70.jpg

Zing.

And ding.

So, what have we?

Quite a few unboxed and very dusty Corgi Classics, some Bond vehicles, later Matchbox MoYs (1990s), Matchbox Dinky in boxed and unboxed, plus a handful of Solido and New Ray, topped off with plenty of Corgi's Original Omnibus Co buses.

Let's take a closer look...

1663098180_IMG_20201113_0816032.thumb.jpg.fb31794aae5eff9711fb059105ea5d7a.jpg

Main table was looking like this; all at a fiver a throw.

1473028901_IMG_20201113_0816212.thumb.jpg.0468b0dc1949c40de0e100fc8b8e9907.jpg

Pistachio green 60s Thunderbird and Dodge fire jeep thing are by Solido; Bel Airs in police and fire liveries are Corgi Classics, as is the Jag XK120 (missing front bumper, annoyingly) and the LWB fire service Land Rover.

SWB Land Rover with fire ladders is a MoY version; I think they were mail-order only by the mid-90s.

Yellow Merc Sprinter is by Siku; while the pink Caddy, Tucker and Buick Skylark are all by Matchbox Dinky.

Fairlane with driver and Chevy Nova police car are Bond partwork items. I think the GPO Anglia van is by Oxford.

Some Lledo Vanguards here: both early type (Dub vans, Morris LD150) and 1/43 variety (Rover P4, A35). Range Rover is Solido, Peugeot postal van in the foreground is a Corgi Classics I've never seen before. British Rail Noddy van is by Oxford.

Corgi SWB Land Rover and Minors curiously cheap and undetailed - some kind of budget range, like the Motoring Memories stuff? Not Classics, anyway - plain base, no suspension. Older Vanguards mixed in, plus a Classics Bedford CA.

New Ray Pontiac GTO still boxed, likewise the Altaya(?) Bel Air, and odd little Syrena 102. More Solido Rangie action, then a Corgi Type 2 VW.

Bus-wise, there's plenty to titillate at a fiver a go:

Daimler Roadliner with Plaxton body is a new one on me; but then my bus knowledge is minimal.

Bigger buses, too:

617059315_IMG_20201113_0833452.thumb.jpg.3c941325e4464390b0b10301a19ebefc.jpg

And yes, more cars too on the second table:

1015662609_IMG_20201113_0810362.thumb.jpg.943e09c5868982ed6d35a1148a22a262.jpg

Top one is an Oldsmobile 88, I think - then a '78 Caddy, and a '57 Ranchero.

There were also some small Hongwells, but a child who looks worryingly like me thirty years ago rocked up and bought them all.

1898180474_IMG_20201113_0813322.thumb.jpg.1f901f67e1a8eb12f0a54f4b59ad6b49.jpg

Some big tinplate stuff, too.

1554278982_IMG_20201113_0812172.thumb.jpg.b53d417275f8b081aed07acea7895db7.jpg

Other DGs available.

1221600880_IMG_20201113_0906162.thumb.jpg.91ec08199eecaf109adc3e260880f437.jpg

Forever available.

My chief Nemesis was in attendance; but he just bought a few dusty Mini vans and chrome Land Rover.

1395159813_IMG_20201113_0804422.thumb.jpg.3ad3591b7fd1c43ff46ca5107f62dcf6.jpg

No loss.

So! A good selection, it has to be said, though not so much to make me dive for my wallet (though it's probably not unrelated to a week of being slightly too successful on eBay with the Corgi listings - which has maybe made me a bit less gung-ho with the cash this morning).

No older stuff this week, and no tat box either. And that 1/18 DeLorean was indeed sold last week :(

For the sake of doing a thorough job, I moseyed off to do the rounds of the rest of the market:

1392007644_IMG_20201113_0817442.thumb.jpg.116fd9c25178177e6816e3be9a8056aa.jpg

Paddy was still showing off his masterful stock display skills.

1876482608_IMG_20201113_0817592.thumb.jpg.cf99f100424ac5ed666ff8ce3bcfd3ee.jpg

The Charity Stall was just as I left it last week; no new arrivals today, I'm afraid.

205287106_IMG_20201113_0818412.thumb.jpg.a7712768f92b8b1ac5b3318dff1f8508.jpg

Ford badge was quite nice, mind.

1623514868_IMG_20201113_0819202.thumb.jpg.d4822ad7945efcc738a11ff496fcf1ea.jpg

Alan's Emporium was low on stock too: the stallholder (Alan, I'll presume) lamented that there's nothing much new, as he often gets his stock from car boot sales when he's over in England. That hasn't been happening of late. I sympathized.

1423239889_IMG_20201113_0823072.thumb.jpg.20ce63ad3b45f9650b171f882ea8a184.jpg

So... If buses are your bag, then it could be a good week for you - but I managed to leave empty-handed, for the first time in a long time.

But! I'm having to head into work to sort out a network drive, so if there's anything that grabs you, do let me know and I may be able to head back over at 12 to procure...

Until then, happy Friday kids!

In fact, if you do get the chance to get over, I’d have the Stagecoach single decker too as I’ve piloted one of those as well... 🤣

I hope you swept-up those Days Gone right in front of Nemesis Man.  That way he will get the message about the imminent jump in market value and clear-out the stalls of them before you arrive next week.

I love on those Days Gone By bollocks they’d have a Model T Ford advertising something like Snickers. I remember as a kid my grandparents having a Model T Shredded Wheat van, thinking back when we cleared the house out when they’d passed away it went straight in the bin.

No fuck it, I was never that bothered about it but it’s how it was held in such high esteem as being one of only 30,000 produced as a collectors item. For the crime of being self delusional it went in the bin, which in hindsight I regret as if I’d had the foresight I’d have squashed it flat in the vice.

Crikey!

Is the Corgi yank Peter Pan coach a fiver? If so (and if it isn't just metal shards rattling around a tidy box) I'll leap at that.

Also the Oxford - London Plaxton Excalibur and Eastern National (Plaxton Pointer?) if I'm not way, way too late.

Ta!

No worries, I've just seen what it sold for, which was way over what I would have paid anyway.

If I win the lottery I'm buying every one I can find, then I'll be thinking of creative ways to destroy them. Once they're rare they might be worth something

Not sure - might be a tenner on the Peter Pan one! But OOC stuff was all a fiver. If you've an upper price in mind on the Yank bus, let me know and I'll see if I can get it for you; likewise, I'll see if I can grab the smaller two as well.

Blowing them up with fireworks, melting them in acid, running them over, chucking them in the sea, smashing them with a club hammer, putting them through a metal shredder, I'm sure I can think of more.

I wonder how many I could fit in a car squisher at the breakers?

RC Golf update:

Slow progress as I broke all of the cutting discs for my rotary tool. I have however managed to get the steering mechanism how I wanted it.

IMG-0407.thumb.jpg.091ff9e196ad18c3d1d5ef5744353aae.jpgIMG-0406.thumb.jpg.168044744e2f9f90a06cdedea9856bdb.jpg

I crudely hooked it up to a power source to see if it worked. It's not self rectifying as well as I would have hoped. I did include a spring to assist with this but it's not strong enough although all the parts are dry so a little moly grease may help?

I've also started to strip the body and have decided on the colour for it.

Yeah, I could stretch to the heights of fifteen quid, but only because I now have a sudden magpie "Shiny things" urge. A tenner would be far better, of course.

eBay going rate wobbles between £4 and £thaaasands.

Cheers.

Doesn't seem to have been played with going by the paint and base, but the stickers are all peeling. Hopefully a careful application of glue will improve things. I'm still going to do something with the body I have, I very much doubt replacement decals are available

Peter Pan picked up for a fiver, in the end - dusty and missing mirrors, but otherwise looks intact. Pics to come later! The other two OOCs also procured.

He also showed me another boxful that he hadn't put out this morning - so with any luck they may be there next Friday morning too, if there's any interest?
