I remember selling a Spot-on Amstrong Sidley sapphire for about £40 knackered 15/20 years ago at a fair (pre eBay).

Today I receiverised a packagisation.

It was sent to me from Leningrad, which is in the Soviet Union, which the elderly Autoshiters might still know as "dem bleeding commies".

This was inside:

Cabin is diecast:

Ivan sure learned quickly how to coax more moolah out of a decadent Westerner:

This used to be classified:

This used to be top secret:

I bet this tells me to join the Party:

And they included decals, too:

I love Russian Model cars, particularly where everything is in Cyrillic. I dont love the fact that many turn to powder 😕

As such I will be buying more of the 1/36 examples as they are made by Hongwell.

Posted

No. I literally hate you for posting them up though as I will have to buy one.

How cool is a model in a large wierd scale of a Lada 111? Not even the real thing!

Posted

Not everybody liked the LTi TX1 when it replaced the old FX4.

It was a bit of a Marmite design.

Some diecast tat that I've recently picked up. These are all part of a nicely priced job I recently picked up. Still got most of my childhood toy cars so really ought to get the camera out for those too. Anyhow, feast your eyes on these.

Corgi Ford Sierra 2.3 Ghia. Nicely detailed model for what was essentially a toy.

Another Corgi Ford, this time a MK3 Escort. Looks a bit proportionally challenged to my eyes....

Yet another blue Corgi, a Triumph Acclaim with front wheels that you can steer with the door mirrors.....and why not?

Dinky wedge that's not blue.

Is there a pattern forming? Corgi SD1..... In blue

Dinky Transit. May have a crack at restoring this one.

Politoys Lotus Europa.

The subject matter isn't exactly shite fodder but an interesting model I've not seen before, a Joel Lamborghini Miura.

I'll finish with this lovely little CX made by Mira.

Depends what it is....I bought a Dinky Fairlane that was covered in old marker pen (probably the really old thick black ones that you used to be able to get high on). I used some switch cleaner on Mrs Rockers make up remover pads and got it off but it was bloody hard work. Didn't seem to harm the paintwork, though. Nice buy though, even if you have to repaint it

Carb cleaner mate. I have thos Corgis, Sierra has a dealer box, love them!!

Carb cleaner will eat the plastic parts.

Melamine sponge and water.

Also vastly underrated are vinegar and lemon juice.

Tesco value gin costs the same and tastes identical.

A shite restoration! This is one of the old plastic Triang Minix Triumph 2000s from the sixties. It originally looked like the green one, not too promising.

With the aid of a 3 quid Oxford Mk2 like the yellow one, it gained proper wheels and an interior

post-5267-0-36410900-1448712087_thumb.jpg

A bit of brass wire replaced the missing rear bumper corners, a common problem on these

post-5267-0-58042100-1448712084_thumb.jpg

And it was sprayed in my favourite colour, Ford Purple Velvet. Not authentic but I think the colour suits it.

Voila, a Mark 1 2.5 PI for my collection. I'm well chuffed with how it turned out - the bodyshell is actually really good and with a bit of detail it doesn't look out of place with modern Oxford models.

Posted

Transformation! I like those Minix things the way they are but they are pretty shite as models - look at that narrow track! I used to fanny about detailing them - painting the tyres black and so on but that's a whole new level you have there...

Posted

That's some top detailing work you have there, well done indeed.  I still have a few old Minixes but none of them will ever have that level of restoration, not while they're with me!

Posted

I had those Minix 2000s

I was at a model railway show today and one thing you dont see anymore are those fiver bags of 1:87 plastic Herpa, Wiking and Praline cars. I bought tons of them about 20 years ago and they al had great detail and were of cars that you couldnt het models of at the time. For example, e28 3 series, Opel Ascona, Volvo 264, Fiat Fiorion 127, mk2 Transit, Mitsubishi L200 Van, VW LT and so on. I can take pictures if anyone is interested.

Yes please!

In the meantime, here is my Opel corner of the railway scale collection.

Wiking Ascona B in orange to represent my full-scale one (right colour although mine was 4 door) plus two Spanish EKO models - Rekord P1 Caravan and Kadett A.

I became quite taken with the EKO range and bought lots of those, quality varies quite a bit but I think they look a bit nicer than the Minix equivalents....

Nice Opels, it's a real shame that our continental cousins use 1/87 (HO) scale and we're stuck with our own 1/76 as there's so much interesting HO stuff out there but it just looks too small next to 1/76.
