A before and after, it has its problems, not least the a-pillars which I elected to leave as they were. But it's ok.

I'm experimenting a bit with Instagram again; although my general feelings about social media remain ambiguous, I do follow a few diecast folks and I've a half-cocked idea to try and profile a random 'diecast of the day' plucked from the shelf. So that's what I've been at for the past week or so.

Most of these you'll already have seen on these hallowed pages anyway; it's more of a way for me to keep a visual record of my collection along with the random bits of trivia I like to dig up from time to time about the model, the real-life counterpart, or both.

But I don't think I'd mentioned the Tomica Nissan Cedric taxi on here before - one of the few I held onto. So here y'go!

Oddly enough this was the next thing up for patio perusal. Now facing a new life in Norn Iron, the Dinky 356. The box is a bit warped and yellow but not bad for something that's got to be thirty or so years old.

Haha, that's blown my theory right out of the water!

Same base, then... with the '924' crudely erased on the not-quite-944.

I don't have one to hand, but I could've sworn that the first 924s from the late 70s (gold, rally decals, spotlight on the roof) had a metal base - or maybe I'm mistaken in that too?

I'd also give credence to AndrewE's theory about the Le Mans 924 GT - for 1985, the newly-reorganised Corgi seemed to be raiding the drawers in the design studio to knock out anything that could be packaged as 'new'. Just like the timing of the Supra - where the scale model appeared just when the real thing was being superseded  - I'd guess this was seen as a quick win at the time. Close enough to the 944 for an eight-year-old, was probably the thinking.

They added a front scoop and a small rear Luo spoiler to later versions of that Polo, I used to have one. I always preferred the standard version like yours though as I'd never seen a kitted one on the road.

Also, early ones had a sticker for a grille I think whereas later ones had the details cast on.

Correct! Cast grille on the green one.

It's sunny, it's Essex so we should have some Ford content. I can't even attempt to emulate RoadworkUK's elegant and nostalgic love letter of a few weeks ago, so all I'll say is that this (or, more precisely, my red example) is one of my all time favourites. Even at three or four its attention to detail enthralled me, the badges and the wheels in particular. This came from Bramz on here a couple of years ago with some lovely black pen detailing and a trim level downgrade of sorts.

Essex Escorts.. Probably not something one should Google. Or maybe it is, no judgement from here. Anyway these two are childhood relics and have survived rather well under the circumstances. The scratches on the bonnet and roof of the hatchback happened in 1988 when an older boy knocked it out of my hands when we were running a few cars down an earth bank in the front yard of my primary school. Must have pissed me off pretty thoroughly for the memory to be that fresh. B37XEV and B732XJY probably were Escorts too, I was that sort of child..

This, by way of contrast although still a Ford, is not the one I received for Christmas 1985. That example succumbed to a destructive period about five years later that claimed a few others and which I'm ashamed of even now. Still got the remains of the box somewhere but that suffered when some mice decided to take up residence in my Maestro VdP while it was in the shed.

Which sort of brings us to this, also referenced in Tenmil Socket's scans of yesterday. It always irritated me that they used the same wheels on this as the Popular, it just seemed to slightly spoil an otherwise very respectable model. Going off on a tangent, Wasses was a splendid toy, bicycle and fishing tackle shop in Colchester. A good portion of my toy cars would have come from there, the Corgis used to be lined up in the right hand window at child head height. Forced out of town after decades by the greedy local cuntcil, they're still going but only do fishing gear now.

In honour of market blokeys, I went out for the first time in three months to a market.  The Hitchin open air one, no less.  Fridays are supposed to be ‘Antiques & Collectables’ day so went over to see how the blokeys are getting on.  Not a terrible turnout of stalls surprisingly, and customers were thankfully sparse; so achieved a spoil or two.

It means I have four of the Dinky 600 Pullman now in various states of undress. It has good glass and headlamp I need. Driver is there but passengers have escaped through the missing rear door.  Have spares of those. I paid less than the sticker, repro spares would have set me back plenty more

Corgi 007 series 3 is all working, with the earlier wheels, and James is still seated. Baddie has flown, literally

MOY Rolls Royce Fire Engine is probably the only one my old Dad never had. It was in a crate of boxed-as-new MOY, for giveaway money

Ferrari 330P is an unknown built kit, missing screen and one exhaust but was 50p.  For chopping about into slot car.  Or throwing at the noisy neighbours.

More of the big Merc, after I’ve found out more about it

Excellent likeness to my L322 Range Rover. Trouble is I now have a blue L405 model instead, so an excuse to buy another model for your collection!

Now you would really impress Mrs6C if your could modify another boat to look like teal.

I'm just waiting for Oxford Diecast to make their L405 in blue. They do the 322 in blue and the 405 in silver but not the other way round :(

Coincidentally I've just been working on some of those Corgi Truckers. The pre-production samples look quite different from what was actually released, especially the Ford that has the wide wings of a heavyweight but by the time it reached production had turned into a narrow-winged 7.5-tonner. They do scrub up well though.

Here's a couple of Yatmings I couldn't resist - a Volvo and a Chevette (not an Accord)

I can't talk about Rose Club though, it's the first rule...

Incidentally the Volvo is made in Thailand, not a particularly common place of origin for die casts

Big Merc assessment just in!

Brand is Apple both on the base and the box, and as suspected was made in China, complete with some Pinyin on the box to prove (below the word 'Friction' top left corner)

image.png.58bbbbd0e5ecc84c27811401889dbde4.png

Had to have it, if only because: 1) have never seen another; 2) it is perfect size for slotcarshite; 3) there are no Merc W116 S-Class slot cars you could buy, even if you wanted to 'do a Ronin'

Friction motor is working and the high-riding chassis unclips.

image.thumb.png.c989010ba514e1771ebac569a1682bf5.png

Word got out.  The Lucky Toys Merc W114 turned up to welcome it to the household

Firing-up the spreadsheet produced a scaled length of 1:32 together with a porkier width of 1:30.   So not only is it gawky, it's bloated as well - just like the new owner.

So, it is boxed and was nabbed for a fiver.

OK I lied - I have one Majorette and several Corgis - in the spirit of the forum I went for red white and beige.

20200627_091916.thumb.jpg.85977ca2d6ea192217789918509365bb.jpg20200627_091807.thumb.jpg.15458a92d7f31a7d42127ce5906458bc.jpg20200627_091822.thumb.jpg.03aebb0127ff8779757da8eab26ac371.jpg20200627_091834.thumb.jpg.eae01095b328c5715ae864e5e66aa299.jpg

All have opening features, the Corgi and Majorette go for the tailgate as they are the (better looking) estate.

Interior detail is perhaps best on the Majorette as the Yatming has no dashboard behind the correct looking steering wheel.

Corgis usual lack of effort in this era is all one lump

Today's arrival was surprisingly hard to track down at an acceptable price - Dinky MK2 Transit.

The MK1 is sought after but pretty easy to find in both sliding door/twin rear door and the single rear door version (which I prefer), but the MK2 is far less common. Less made maybe?

Mine arrived with no tyres and a replacement rear door that didn't stay in place

20200627_114326.thumb.jpg.4a4a489c7458f1b65294c8cb953323d3.jpg

I knew I had the original wheels from this MK2, that I somewhat crudely modified as a teenager (and I plan to re-do better).

2020-06-27_12-13-56.thumb.jpg.8a85d65d083458dbb54f85bb26236918.jpg

I also fitted the tailgate by using a centre punch to tighten the crimps inside the body.

While I was rummaging in the spares box, I found a couple of modern tyres that fit the dragster rather well

Had a trip to Tesco this morning.

No Mk1 Golf or Dodge police car,bit did manage to get these.

Happy to find the Honda cvcc, and the Porsche rally car.

Hopefully the Golf will turn up.

One gripe with the Honda is the huge rivet post from the the roof to secure the base on,it looks terrible,on an otherwise great model.
