Last bit of Corgi action before dinner, another boot sale find from last year that I'd forgotten about until last week. My childhood one was bright yellow with I think chrome effect stickers but my memory may be at fault there.

I had a yellow one with chrome stickers so your memory is correct. I also had a solid blue one with the number plate 'COR 95P' which was lovely but I swapped it for a James Bond Lotus Esprit :(

It's one of a few I'm hoping will  turn up over the projected clear out due in the next few months. Along with (just from memory) a black 924 with gold stickers, a red Sierra, three Metros in red, blue and pale green, blue Triumph Acclaim, red driving school Honda Ballade. God, maybe I was spoilt..

Shortly after the Lotus club left, up popped the Tronda gang with their Prelude cousin.  The excitement was immense.

If it ever resurfaces there'll be pictures galore but I won't be parting with it. It and the ones mentioned above but especially this, the Acclaim and Sierra are among the toys I can't remember not having if that makes sense. Also, now I think about it, a silver Mini with the roof painted black to match my Auntie Sue's 1100 Special (which she still has).

Auntie Sue would find her Mini appreciated here!

Annoyed it's the wrong way up but this is the only photo I have of it. Came off the road in February 1987..

That's lovely. As somebody who is, I believe, part Sierra, I've long been tempted by one of these.... but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger. If it wasn't a sealed model I'd definitely have taken the plunge by now.

Oh yes definitely a Special - still has the graphics and wheels on it!

Is anyone on here able to make up numberplates to fit a model car?

Any help appreciated! I could do with a pair urgently if anyone has any leads...

I thought she'd had it from new but having jusr asked my Dad (who's chuffed to fuck with his new Atlantean) it was an ex-demo example.

All this Mini talk caused another garden meet.....

And not only that, I'd not realised until now how different the 'same' Corgi models were - nothing is shared, not even the glazing!  Madness.

What scale?  And do you need a specific number on them?

Yes, the model is a 1/76 Oxford Diecast and I hoped to plate it up to replicate my fiancees first car - a terracotta mk1 Fiesta!

If anyone is able to make up a set of numberplates for it, I'd be eternally grateful!

Very nice!  Excellent idea too.  I have many models of my old cars (must do some photography, lol) but I never even tried to make plates for cars that small.  Can't even do 1/43 freehand now.

Not much help, I know; sorry.  Plates must be available, though getting the number you want might be a different thing.  I wonder if there's software available that would allow you to print at that size?

Difficult to tell, as I can't seem to find a decent list of colours and variations for Corgi.

There are a lot of colours though!

If you have access to a printer, just go onto fancyplates.com and you can make your own in the correct pre 2001 font.

Damn good idea. ?

Looks good so far... just need to work out how I'm going to make them tiny enough to squeeze onto a 1/76 model?!

And different again to the Mini they offered in the mid-late '70s?

More kit progress, as I'd got playing with the new 1:1 out of my system on Saturday:

Maserati is now as shiny as it will ever be. Had an issue with areas that had been previously painted, but mostly managed to get around it (bootlid not great though).

Now starting on the bits that give the Chevelle its identity. Grille needs another coat of gunmetal, and I still have foil to add to the roof guttering and front screen surround. As I've down-specced mine to the 300 (and it's modified) I don't have to do as much as might have been the case.

Should get the Chevelle at least finished next weekend, then it's onto the next one! I have plenty to choose from, but I'm restricting myself by having a policy of choosing a different kit maker each time. So far this year I've done Fujimi, Heller, Nichimo, Tamiya and Hasegawa. The Maserati is by Monogram and Chevelle by Revell. Aoshima is most likely, as I want to do something non-US next, then later in the year I can move onto AMT and MPC for American, smaller Japanese makes like Nitto, Imai, Otaki and Doyusha, and various odds and ends like Airifx, Esci and Italieri.

Master SL recently finished his Fujimi Ferrari F40 Koenig Specials, a challenging kit but he did OK with it, so I've got him onto a Tamiya Nissan 350Z this time.

Open MS word, snip the image from your screenshot and copy several times. I then make it lots of different sizes so that at least 1 will fit and I only need to print once.

Hey, I've never seen that type of Corgi Mini before, I only had the Dinky one with opening bonnet and doors.

So Corgi must have made 3 different castings over the years before moving to 1/36. There's the one on the left which I have in blue, a slightly different casting with thicker pillars and smaller wheels and now your blue one. I'm off to to look for that on eBay, it's really smart with the opening boot.

Here is one of my oldest toys, probably the reason I love Saabs.

It's a 99GL, obviously. Not the turbo either, so extra points there for being the one you used to see on the roads more commonly rather than the halo version.

I also had a small Volvo 740 saloon when is was a new car! I though it was the coolest thing ever!

This is a plastic model, no idea the make. It clearly used to have mud flaps.

It's late quite well over the years and is currently my kid's play thing!

That blue Corgi Mini is clearly the "Mini Magnifique" casting.  I've just restored one that I've owned from new (almost completed now) which you'll all see soon.  Mine was green, which I think was the lead and most common colour, but I remember seeing them in blue when new in the early 70s.

I think the range that the saab is from has been covered on here before, iirc they did a Volvo 343 and a 740 amongst others.

Stahlberg.

Worth a fair bit now too. I think I have a 360 somewhere but haven't seen it for years.

Open up into a paint program and resize to the scaled percentage

Printing onto label or decal paper would help with applying to the model

For 1/76 though, you’re stretching the ability of the printer to handle a bitmap graphic and might* get better results from a vector program
