POST LADY WEDNESDAY

All the way from Spain, a Guisval Ford Mustang I’d been hankering over. Bought quite cheaply, considering how much usually gets asked. So postage didn’t hurt quite as much

....and all the way from Barrow-in-Furness, a proper original Hot Wheels Custom Fleetside, now with a set of axles and wheels fitted

That Guisval is very cool, only ever seen stock models from them before

Because of current circumstances I've got a very long weekend at home and a good excuse not to do anything useful or practical. Maybe it's time to get this thing finished?

I started it over 10 years ago. Paintwork has since been lacquered and polished so most of the time-consuming stuff done, just detail painting and assembly now.....

I'd quite fancy a Skyline C211, a black one with gold decals like in Seibu Keisatsu:

Spent a couple of hours with Diet  Nitromors  and wire wool removing a out 6 coats of paint from this yesterday, FathaN remembers it being grey with red flashes when it was new.  I found some Matt battleship grey in the shed then I lacquered it wth some Volvo clearcoat. Probably going to leave it as I’m so hamfisted, I’ll fuck it up if I try to paint any detail in , maybe do the wheels red ?

I found this while sorting out yesterday, another one that Roadkill fans might recognise

@bunglebus, how would you deal with these wheels / axles? I've straightened it out a bit, but littlun wants different wheels on it..

Either a small flat blade screwdriver to ease the tabs apart, or carefully cut the tabs with a dremel.

Alternative is to cut through the axle with side cutters if you're not keeping the old ones (I like having spares).

You can use glue to keep the new axle in place, just keep it in the middle, jel superglue and baking soda is good as it sets hard instantly.

Good luck!

They're amazingly accurate. With the right background I reckon you could take really convincing pictures of them

Agreed - although you would have to get the lighting and angle right because, like most resin models, the glazing is of thin acetate that gives wavy reflections and also tends to look like inappropriately flush glass.  My Cult SD1 and XJ6 are the same.

That’s the only thing that slightly detracts — they are otherwise excellent and really capture the overall nature of the cars as well as the specific details.

My collection is mostly 1/18 with a small display of smaller scale. I'll just post a few for now don't want to flood the thread.

All  bought cheap when Modelzone was sadly going out of business.

Took a Matchbox Boss Mustang apart, when I stripped the chrome off the interior I found lilac plastic. This inspired me to do a purple version

Of course you can't see the lilac interior through the orange windows...

Not sure I want the faf of changing the wheels.

However, the bonnet does need replacing. Unfortunately, the plastic I usually use is too thick, so I used some tiny metal sheets I have. Took a while with my fake dremel to get it the right shape....

If anyone would like them please PM :)

Last of the V8s.

The work I've done to the 1/18 to try and make it a first movie car is reversable and why I'm reluctant to paint the decals on.

These are all made by Autoart, Greenlight have since released a version too.  I'm a big fan of Oz muscle cars and I'll post some of those another time. ?

Might attempt some crazy chequer paint on the roof of this one if I feel brave tomorrow

How do you find the time!

No work and a very understanding Mrs. Haven't done a lot in the last year but since the lockdown I've spent about 5-7 hours a day playing with toy cars working on die casts

I did one of these last year, and the model supplies replacement door took a lot of fettling work. This is another model, and another door, it has gone straight in, so should be a straightforward repaint.

Is the door from Steve Flowers? They're closed but I'm pondering on ordering a few bits but their website is a bit archaic. Couldn't find anything about postage costs

Yes, bought last year before all this kicked off. Postage is £3 for orders under £10 and £5 for orders over £10. I normally find it easiest to 'phone in my order (when they are open!).

Cheers. Not bought replacement parts before but I've ended up with three Cadillac ambulances with broken glass, so fragile.

Not found anywhere doing decent superfast or Superkings/Speed Kings bits yet, someone needs to crank out some engines and other stuff that always goes missing.

I'm well overdue wanting to learn making repro items

@garethj has explained the pitfalls and expense of 3D printing excellently, so I think I'll go the old mucky route with resin moulding.   Because I mainly want the things to run around a slot car track, I do need strength over aesthetics.  And of course being broke at the moment and have no access to CAD gear
