Shite in Miniature II

Hmm. Well, I'm getting married in three weeks time, this could be just what I need if it all gets too much and I need a way out.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding ☺

With this model I also got what was described as a "SMALL GIFT!!!" with it which was a metal Volkswagen key fob. I like it, but I am flummoxed as to why!

Guiloy make beautifully terrible larger models, I have a 1/18 Sierra xr4i and its flipping horrible. And beige.

His other listings include a Mira Granada in 1/25 which has made me come over all how's-your-father.

All these lovely details are useless, if the model as such looks like it was carved from an anvil.

It looks like they started with the details, then ran out of steam when it came to making the overall shape.

Thinking "gosh" I just did a google search for Guiloy xr4i.

What I found was so horrifically bad I fear I'll have nightmares tonight of hideous amorphous beige blobs with rodent-skin lined interiors and every single aspect being as wrong as physically possible. Like a cake made of loft insulation, eyeballs and shit.

The "Sierra xr4i" logos are, bafflingly, pretty accurate.

....or is it a Granada? One of my fellow car collectors has one and neither of us can tell.

The xr4i is indeed awful. I think the interior is actually made from tarantula hairs. What I dont understand is that Guiloy, Guisval and Mira made pretty decent smaller scale cars.

I have 1/18 Mira 1955 Buick for comedy effect. It's so bad, I didn't photograph it out of fear of camera explosion.

I had a 1/25 scale BMW 3 series by Mira, and it actually didn't look too bad, except for the socking great tow bar, and the door catches on it

Tamiya announced the release of the Toyota AA as a 1/24 scale plastic kit.

Release date is set for June. It's not yet listed on the HLJ website.

.

I have both of those, in fact I have two of the beige one!  Can't imagine why...

I had one of those.  Bought on impulse at a collectors' fair, and when I got it home I didn't like the proportions gainst some of my other 50s cars, so I stuck it on ebay.  Got my money back, so that was good enough.  The Mira Buick remains about the cheapest and most accessible 1/18 American car on the 'bay, if you don't include Vipers.  YGWYPF, and all that.

Wow. Looking at the interior just makes me want to eat white chocolate for the rest of the day.

Ive got that one in the attic somewhere. A black e30 2 door? Ive also got the Renault 25 in the same scale by the same manufacturer. Again not a bad model but a laughably short wheelbase compared to the real 25. Seems to have made to a 'fit the box' size rather than a true 1/25.

Here's a very odd charity shop acquisition:

post-4819-0-85298500-1429394239_thumb.jpg

Genuine Kassbohrer Setra merchandise, 1:87 HO Scale, as per the previous version of this one, as found on the "Setra Shop" for 15 Eros. A fiver in St Helena Hospice shop in Frinton-On-Sea. Probably too much to spend, but it's for charideee.

No idea where they're getting these things from, they have one more in stock along with a Matchbox "Alarm Cars" Porsche 959 C/W box and key... not seen one of those since the '89 Argos catalogue.

It was this shop that yielded my £2.50 Corgi 825i Sterling.

4 more added to the fleet including 2 Voxorl/Opelshite. The Capri is almost MIRA esque in it's looks, but the Panda is brilliant, even shedloads of detail on it's underside. It's a Norev, the other 3 are Ixo/Altaya etc. Carlton/Omega has the passenger window 'open' and pedals moulded into the left footwell, but is right hand drive. I suspect they used the glazing unit and interior moulding from a southpaw Omega.

Were bought from a model shop in Braintree.

Years back I repainted one of those Commer BF's into the correct Mr Whippy livery, as the Matchbox van is based on the Bonalack body used by Whippy, not Smiths as used by Lyons Maid

Felly that Whippy van is awesome! Have you done the Corgi one as Lyons Maid yet?
