Caution!

There is a company in Belgium crushing old Norevs and model kits to make children's furniture out of them!

https://www.ecobirdy.com/

Please don't just avoid such doings, boycott them!

And for God's sake, safeguard your precious plastic!

Here is how the Norev scrappage scheme is hammered into the consciousness of unsuspecting children under a false pretext:

A scandal!

I'm still getting over the fact that my Mother persuaded me to send some broken tat to a Blue Peter appeal.   In fact I only just replaced a Dinky Humber Hawk that went that way (it had to be the brown/beige with sufficient paint loss)    Kids of the world - unite!

Bet you Peter Purves took them home and played with them all.

I would.

EDIT: after badly cutting myself on a large (approx 1/18 scale) tinplate Talbot Alpine, I was made to throw out all my damaged tinplate, diecast and plastic cars and trucks - the majority of which had been brought back from abroad by family members. Having to chuck my beloved 1/12 scale Citroen CX (gold with a purpley-pink interior, but with a snapped A-pillar) in the bin still haunts me... so I feel your pain, guys.

There's a Dinky Hudson and Corgi Plymouth Sport Suburban there, too....They did actually auction off the decent gear but that was mainly pre-war Dinky.   Still can't look at those pictures in case my Humber's there...

Peter Purves will have bagged up all the decent stuff and took it home, all the crap stuff he just let John Noakes stamp on. Rumour has it Purves still has all those old Dinkys in the loft, the whole thing was a plot for him to enlarge his own die cast collection.

Well, if you look at the prices they ask for that furniture they make from what they con out of those poor children by brainwashing them, without mentioning any charity they donate to, I'd just wait for them to show up at the school my children go to with a proper hard plastic baseball bat, lemme tellyas orl. And not before I have weaponised every kiddo with a nice plastic water pistol.

Thanks God my childhood was happier than Mercrocker's.

In the 1960s prewar Dinky toys were commonly given away by prewar Uncles, Dads and Grandads. Collectors were few and far between.  I picked up my small collection of prewar and immediately post war re-issues from a small toy shop in Southsea which had 2nd hand toys for sale in a glass display box at the entrance.  I readily starved myself by diverting school dinner money to this noble cause.  All Dinky lorries were 3d each, as were most of the sports cars. My collection was thus valued at 1/6d in 1960, not that that interested me at all.  By the 1970s most early Dinky toys from the 30s, 40s and 50s were becoming collectable. I 'had' to pay £12 for four 2nd hand post war saloons in 1972.  All are now down from the loft but individually wrapped in 1970s *Andrex or *hankerchiefs together with a few similarly protected Spot-ons, Corgis, Matchbox and one or two Dinky aeroplanes. Surprisingly, I have a couple of Matchbox cars still with their boxes and several 1st issue Corgi Classics also boxed, even the blister packed (opened) Rolls Royce.  Yes, yes, I'll try to get some photos posted sometime.

*unused!

Just to show that I have been spending my pocket wisely here's a few pics of recent-ish acquisitions. French plasticky vehicles included.

A box with stuff in it.

Bugger! I had stopped collecting bus models years back, now bought 4 in the last month! Fucksticks. The3 real thing had a family connection, so had to have a model of it, now quite an old model, about 20 years old give or take.

As a model it is rather sexual LOLOL, will ask around for you Sheff.

Did those Volvo people-carriers use actual F88/89 screens and grilles or do they just look similar?

Posted

They used boggo Alexander windscreens, and I think the grille was lifted from the F series truck, they also shared the engine, which was why they went like a stabbed rat!

It went to the Peter Purves Diecast Appeal.

Grilles were F88 items I believe; engine was the F86's 6724cc TD70-series putting out about 210bhp.

When your run of the mill Gardner 6LX in the mid 70s was churning out 150bhp (or 180bhp in 6LXB form) it was quite peppy.

I know that some of the subby lads in our company who ran Volvos had, apparently, coach diffs fitted to them.   They used to fly too.   This was the late Seventies when tachos were barely checked and the only place you were likely to get GV9'd was waiting for the cross channel ferry.

These are such nice little things for a quid. I wouldn't have gone for these Peugeots, but they came in the fabulous two tone GT trim, so...

Check out your local branch, mine's tapped out.

Yet another wobbly Ami 6 has arrived. Very soon I'll have enough in different colours to fill a car transporter. Did Norev make wobbly transporters ?

I like the white tyres on this. White walls on a real one would be wank though.

Those ABC Ailsas are the nuts. I got my two in 2001 and 2002, just as ABC split up. The opening wire mesh grille and full engine and chassis detail are brilliant and wonderfully crude, a bit like the old 1/43 Russian Diecasts of the 1980s.

Agreed, whitewalls on Norevs are great. I'm not sure about when they had them, or why - but I'm sure JM could probably tell us...
