Shite in Miniature II

Well, I presented it before sans stickers, but according to Conrad

A van must have a purpose.

So he made those wonderful stickers for it, which advertise one of my favourite staples in that France (actually to a large extent my only one),

since it's the single country in Europe you have to fend for yourself since no food outlet other than a supermarket is ever open.

That stuff on a fresh baguette (which is easier to obtain in Germany) and Amora cornichons - I have killed for less.

A mate of mine has just posted photos of his Sunstar 1.18 scale Escort RS1600i, and it is suffering bizarre metal fatigue where the drivers side door has warped. He is understandably pissed off

Martchbox corvette.

I'm not really a fan of the laser wheels, but I think they really suit this casting.

Looks like it's ready to speed along the salt flats.

Needs tyres.

I'm unsure if I'll repaint it or not.

In happier news, I'm catching up on the new Oxford Diecast plans released via Facebook last night and they've only gone and done a 1/76 Maxi! My prayers have been answered and I can't wait until it comes out towards the end of the year.

Woo I have been waiting for an affordable model Maxi for years! I shall be e-camping outside on the night before what ever ebay shop releases them.

Ford D Series bought yesterday 50p, missing a few tyres, pinched some off the battered scammell I bought a few weeks ago.

Just noticed on the Oxford website that they have (at long last) a 1/43 Bedford CF Morrison ice cream van planned for future release. I am quite irrationally excited about that. They had better make it!

Thats just like the ice cream van that used to come round the estate where I grew up, FSL147K. Also on my list now!

I hope they do the mid 70s Tonibell livery as well, to jog a few childhood memories. 'Big Dominic' had most of the vans round our way when I was a kiddie, in his own livery, but he ran a couple of Morrison Tonibell CFs which must have been ex franchise. The immaculate one, RCR 738M he eventually had repainted but GTR 935L was a right knacker with a rough misfiring petrol engine and it stayed in Tonibell livery until he got rid. May have to create a few code 3s to replicate some of Dominic's 80's fleet...

They're pretty much giving people what they want arent they? If a few of their 1/76 range was also available in 1/43, Corgi's never ending range of repaints of years-old castings (aka Vanguards) would probably be buried!

Who's running Hornby these days? Why it is Taff from Oxford! He could easily do a reverse takeover. When you think about it, a Vanguards is almost £30, and that Mr Whippy van is roughly half that, Taff will shift a metric tonne, even his 1/43 cars are cheaper than Vanguards, and not badly detailed either

Those golf bats are from the mk1 cortina woody estate.

True.   They did come with the Imperial, though, as well.   Corgi put a teaser on the original boxes saying "Surprise in Boot!"

Yeah, surprise!   The same piece that came with the Cortina....

There were two figures in the car originally, too.   A man and a woman.   And a golf bag in the trunk....Bet that wasn't his wife, though - she was probably sat at home thinking hubby had gone off on a golf weekend with his buddies.

Aye, you can pick up an Oxford Firenza for about £20, and is at least as good if not better than any Vanguards model in a lot of areas, apart from the Vanguards having a metal base which I always thought gives them a nice 'weighty' feel. I just wish they'd do a few more bread and butter classics like the Firenza.

I had a white mk1 Escort pop up while browsing ebay recently. It looked pretty decent, in white with wide twin cam type steels, I was surprised to see it was one of the Oxford/Cararama jobs and was £12 posted! That old casting looks quite decent now with a couple of tweaks and you cant knock the price.

I just hope I manage to grab one of those CFs before they get snapped up!

The PoundLand near my work have a haul of those Greenlight Mustangs so I availed myself of a quid this morning to cheer myself up in the face of a week of work and impending financial ruin.

Shall report back re being possible second, this was the main reason I bought it really, just to see. Also I have never had a Greenlight model before.

Mine is actually fine, it's the box where the issue lies really, and a GL for a quid, well...Just had a thought as well, Oxford could easily do that Morrison ice cream van as a Transit too. Odds on a 1/76 scale version will happen too. Lobster better stock them, or he will be in bother LOL

Just unboxed it and its 99% perfect, the only issue was that one of the tyres wasnt seated on the rim correctly. Now fixed so I'd say for a quid its 10/10.

I have never owned a Greenlight model before but for a 1/64 scale the detail is excellent. Opening bonnet, detailed engine, rubber tyres, separate light lenses, metal base and decent paint. The box was unmarked too.

Pleased with that!

1/43 Morris Cooper S with wheels from a 1/64 scale VW Beetle which look a bit like Starmags and are exactly the same size as the 10" wheels that came off the Mini.

Interior painted tan from original black.

Datsuncog is a bad man for offering so much diecast temptation. This assortment of goodies arrived at Silver towers yesterday. I particularly like the baby puke yellow SL - "Yes, I'll have your most expensive car in the most disgusting colour please".

i'd .love Oxford to do a Metro, preferably a mark 2, in white with 3 doors.....

dunno though if that will ever happen. i mean, while they do have BL/ARG history having done a mini, clubbie, allegro, princess?  amd now i see a maxi is listed in the forthcoming releases, i live in hope.

alternatively Vangardes have a history too of producing models of BL's finest* though i don't thinknthat many of those have been strong sellers in th e past.

maybe one day someone will do a new model of the metro, it was a proper popular car back in the olden dayz, well was nearly always in the top 10 models sold here at least, and vangards do have both the nova and fiesta in their range......

Posted

I'd say there's a reasonable chance your wish might be granted at some point. A 1:76 Metro would be sellable although in reality whether a 1:43 would I'm not so sure...

Corgi / Vanguards have done BL stuff in the past and it did not sell well so I'd be surprised if they went back there. Certainly if I was doing product planning I wouldn't be producing anything that was aimed largely at the UK market at the moment and models of BL stuff will only have limited appeal outside these fair isles. We'll be seeing new Corgi announcements for Q3/4 in a week or three so I'll let you know although I suspect the interesting announcements are going to be what they do in 2019...

Off to see both Corgi and Oxford (time permitting) in the next few weeks so watch this space.

I was genuinely shocked to see a CF Morrison full cowl ice cream van in 1/43 scale, and I'd say a 1/76 scale one won't be far away, Taff seems to have a knack of making things people want to buy, and come on £16 rrp for it? That is a cracking price for it, their Whitby Mercs were stonking value too, and I may code 3 one to the KLF's from the cover of Justified & Ancient.

all in original packaging as seen in pics, although the BMW cardboard has had the white facing peeled off underneath, leaving shameless naked buff card.   None of them have been opened.

£6 posted UK each, or two for £10, all three for £12.
