I love the Majorette issue of that Mercedes much more than the Matchbox, even although the latter is probably a better model!

I know what you mean, it kind of captures the look of the average 10 year old shonky W116......The Matchbox isn't that much better a model, anyway - certainly not as good as the box art alleges!

I have been quietly adding to my collection especially with a visit to the recent Spalding toyfair where a couple of vendors had 50% off stuff going on, hmm bad for contents of my wallet. For a change I got some nice unboxed Matchbox 1-75 stuff plus couldn't resist some 1/64 Murrican muscle and car transporter.

Nice Tekno Saab from Fleaby, wanted one for ages.

Muscle time, the cars obviously and not me. And a wrecker truck.

Certainly is nice haul......I keep scrolling back up to look at that Saab, though!

What's the crab - a Telsalda?

Not sure, it has the initials CN on the base, also has a battery box and a pair of small wheels so i guess that it is a 'bump 'n go' type of thing. Wasn't pricey though so I had to buy it.

^^^ Not really the same thing at all, but a place called Gough's Toys in Bacup, Lancs is remanufacturing the 60s & 70s era vac-formed Matchbox 1-75 shop displays at the moment.

Not much use if you want shelf display rather than wall display, admittedly. I'm a little bit tempted though, even at £80+p&p.

^^^ I've got an original one of those still in the box, paid 50 quid for it a few years back. I really should find some wall space and put it up and fill it up.

I scored one for £15 on the Isle of Wight a while ago but never put it up - it sat behind a freestanding cabinet for another couple of years then I eventually sold it.   Nowhere near mint but it was intact.   No front cover though which ultimately saw it being Ebay-ed....

I have used an old fish tank for model displays - my ex-missus had one in her attic after her goldfishes died.   That worked pretty well - bit fiddly with little wooden piers cut from square stock and 3mm acrylic sheet for shelves and not really conducive to regular changes of display.   You might have a lot more patience than me, though.....

Odd choice of cars by the toymakers in the late 70s. Grandson has just been given a bag of Matchbox vehicles. Only 4 cars amongst them but they are a Citroen DS, AMC Pacer, Ford Probe and Monteverdi Hai!

There were two buses, one was a nice Fleetline DMS, the other the larger scale SF-looking Corgi intercity minibus (I'm not allowed to use the extension from the photo, unless anyone can oblige) which strangely enough is not quite like the buses of today (ironically the Fleetline actually is :) )

Sorry no photos of the actual fleet, but they were immediately garaged when he got them;)

Filling this would be ace, like completing a Pannini Football sticker book = EPIC!

MB catalogues used to have little tick boxes against each model.  I never got anywhere near ticking them all before the next catalogue came out.   The big stuff at the back (Kingsize and Yesteryear) only used to register about one tick each!

^^^ I think I'm enjoying collecting the Matchbox catalogues even more than I enjoy collecting the cars themselves... it's like the childhood dream of owning them all, as set out in exciting 'action poses' on the thin pages, is even better than the reality...

They're also *a lot* cheaper.

Another 'back to the white' rebuild, cheating because I haven't glued the base yet.

Majorettes or plastic Norevs, I cannot decide which I like best! Some belters there JYD, the 604 and caravan combo is wonderful!

I have a genuine one that cost a lot more than £80 - that's good value.

Did you guys know that Norev and Majorette was founded by the same man?

So they were! I did not know that.

Oh, absolutely - it's still enough of a wodge to make me think very hard about it, but the repros are about a quarter of the price of an original: in relative terms it's cracking value if you're looking one of these.

I just wish I'd saved a few from the stockroom of the toy shop I worked in 20 years ago - they had loads of these lying around!

Really have a thing for Majorette at the moment.

Especially if they have a towhitch so various stuff can be hooked on

Great pics 155V6.

Thanks,I'll put some more up when I find some more cars & trailers.

I loved Majorette as a kid, had loads as the local sweet shop sold em, I had the mk2 Capri in blue with white roof, towing a trailer with a single canoe clipped to the top of the trailer lid. A real fave of mine was the ice cream van which clearly by the looks was based on a Bedford CF2.

I'm a model car snob. I could never get on with Majorette. The wheels man, the wheels are awful! Blingy chrome threespokes on a Bedford van or whatever, totally wrong. Much preferred the softer silver paint on Matchbox and just a generic holed design.

I had a load of majorettes as a kid too. I loved the mk2 Capri, in orange with black roof and S stripes. Other favourites were the e23 7 series, Peugeot 604, Fiat 127 with the dog in the back window, Saab 900 turbo, Renault 5 GTT, Pug 205 GTi (although my Guisval 5 door GR was my fave Pug 205 in that scale.) and a brill rendering of the Alfa Giulietta. I also had that ice cream van, thinking it was based on a Bedford CF or Iveco daily. Was disappointed to find it was based on a Citroen that wasnt sold over here...

My favourite was the Alfa 75. Always used to get them when we drove to France, they were cheap there, a few francs or whatever.
