I've been in the right place at the right time recently with several fresh listings. Minty Princess was a good score

At a guess, by the time this one was made Lesney had withdrawn the SM as No. 51 from their 1-75 mainline range, and blanked the base number out prior to transferring the casting over to the Twin Pack range (TP-21, with the motorbike trailer).

Looks great in that plain blue, I like that way more than the original mainline release with the tampo-print graphics!

I do like an E46, and missed out on this Boulevard M3 when it came out due to local Smyths being rubbish and these probably not even making it to the shelves. Morrisons came up trumps though.

Being a GTR version, it is a bit on the extreme side though. I think I do prefer the standard type M3 casting

IMG_20260315_002255.jpg.ecb8bed049032221f5461b767aa85ec2.jpg

And I have been after this Power Trip M3 in the lovely Boston Green / Tan interior combo for a while. Again, I've had to play the waiting game as no joy at Smyths (no Power Trips at all there yet) and AliExpress sellers are wanting nearly £20 for it. Tescotainer came to the rescue though, at a reduced price too!

I tried photographing it in the packaging, but being a dark colour and with the annoying shape of the blister, I gave up,

IMG_20260315_002444.jpg.c7d6a1af7217a0398bcc06166e1f9e8e.jpg

And with them adorning it with a card-ruining flipping security sticker, I thought bugger it! I wanted to have a close look at it anyway.

IMG_20260315_002631.jpg.8c5ddbe0330fd48f2ccb735a3af53897.jpg

It's a lovely casting, helped by the colour in this case. Good choice of wheels too, these ones look quite M3-ish.

A little while ago I got the idea to give the 60s Alvis Stalwart a bit of a once-over with some more aggressive rolling stock. Chosen victim is an early one with the smooth load bed, if nothing else it's easier to prep without the ribs in it. I dislike painting pickups due to the awkwardness of getting this area right

I stripped the paint off and sat back to look at all the detail, and had an idea. Went over the whole thing with the rotary wire brush and polish, then black washed the lot to bring out the shapes.  Hot Wheels donated the round bits, two were a beige colour off one of the Baja Bugs so they got painted and a bit of silver dry brushing for the centres. Slightly fiddly to fit due to different construction methods but I got there in the end. Only a couple of days on and off to finish this, I have ordered a khaki plastic top for the bed off eBay too

That looks like a proper Mad Max apocalypse survival machine. It's so obvious now that the mystery glazing unit belongs to it.

That might explain these two in an unusual colour combination then

Had to pop out and grab a few things today. Popped by Pêle-Mêle and picked up the 1/25 C111 and then onto Fnac @ City 2 and then a place next to it called "King Jouet" that had some stock in.

Firstly Fnac:

King Jouet:

You'll notice above that the Matchbox selection had been shoved onto the Majorette (red) stand with only a very small selection. I've so far not come across any substantial Matchbox stock like I used to in Cora or indeed Carrefour.

Hotwheels have pulled out all the stops to become popular and ahead of the game. When I was growing up, Matchbox was always the kings of 1/64 cars, Hotwheels were always the poor relation. Shame really as Matchbox do continue to make some seriously desirable cars.

I really wanted this, but wasn't paying 25€ for it.

I reckon that's it for the cars this time, at least until summer when I'll hopefully return.

It's a lovely casting, helped by the colour in this case. Good choice of wheels too, these ones look quite M3-ish.

IMG_20260315_002656.jpg.4e3f145bea5d059afafe43c9869ea617.jpg

Odd that it has no cast-in mirrors though.

I have one of thos Lotus Esprits on the same colour, but I've have it for years, probably over 10 of not more. I don't think the rear hatch opens though.

The green M3 from the side looks wrong, it looks a bit elongated, front and rear are spot-on though. I have an early Matchbox E46 Coupe and 4-door saloon. Saloon is spot on, but the Coupe looks a tad weird. I'll do a comparison when I get back to the UK.

I had two of those forklifts, both red so I just thought that was the normal colour. I also had one of those weird trucks with the long trailer (but mine IIRC had a blue cab), the Mercedes truck and a load of containers. I have a vague memory of some plastic crane parts but not the train or ship so I guess I only had part of the container port set plus an extra forklift, probably acquired at a car boot sale.

I’ve got the later container port, can’t recall it coming with anything apart from a Volvo truck.

Red was the general colour for these forklifts, though most of the mainline releases came with a yellow-painted hoist and grey forks.

Fork_Lift_Truck_(MB15)

It seems that the Container Port playset was supplied with ones like BB's examples, with an unpainted hoist and yellow forks.

There are loads of variations of that little Lansing Bagnall casting; colours, wheels, stickers. I only twigged a few years back that some of them have cast-in steering wheels, while others have separate plastic ones fitted.

I recently picked up a later version with the roll cage fitted which I didn't know existed; apparently only made for the 1983 catalogue year.

Was it the Motorcity one, like this?

Matchbox Playset Container Port

Cab of my lorry was blue, it was much more satisfying than the stumpy petrol tanker and bulk trailer versions.

Catch up time, purchases over the last couple of weeks:

Getting the F&F stuff at Sainsbury's was a bit of a battle, they were marked as £4 down to £3 but the American pair kept coming up as £4 and I had to resolve it at customer services. Local Tescotainer stores have been stocking the Pontiac range, they had the whole lot but these were to the two that most appealed to me.

IMG_0616.JPG.53fcd5c41f9f1bf4e2852ba10fe7235d.JPG

Local B&M branches have been well-stocked with recent Matchbox, but oddly a brand new one near me had HWs going back to the white Alfa GTV. Skyline is a duplicate but was reduced at B&M, and I think the Mazda was from Tesco.

IMG_0615.JPG.9b58c3ae40470895fbf9583e7e464ce4.JPG

This lot from a local show/autojumble last weekend. MX-5 reminiscent of one in the current range? I think the Civic and RX-7 are from the latest HW batch, but I haven't seen any in the shops.

Random loose things. I liked the early Rockford Files look of the gold Firebird and it was good to find the 200SX with its windscreen still in place.

Nothing at all at the market this morning that you haven't already seen - but picked up some new stuff over at the Smithfield model shop at lunchtime:

IMG_20260320_133245.jpg.31ee355f6265c47ba357e76f4e84bd31.jpg

I might have found a couple of rough Efsi Commer vans at some point in the past, then passed them on - but three different variants presented an unusual opportunity.

IMG_20260320_1332012.jpg.f4ebf27ac76e1ad026e0a9201e7aa71f.jpg

Plain version with Sernam Express stickers, and a circus version with a ladder on the roof.

IMG_20260320_133208.jpg.a1bc10c4672e383fcdde8f8690c1663a.jpg

Other than some dust, these are pretty much mint.

IMG_20260320_1331062.jpg.83471da8544f0ce5bbb3645517211a53.jpg

KLM version with roof mounted warning light pairs with a Citroen C25 minibus, fitted with a (slightly fragile) sliding door mechanism.

IMG_20260320_1331162.jpg.e610b6db2e936a999c057dd1a36e663d.jpg

Some numbered stickers on the bases indicate that these came from a Serious Adult Collector - and now, they're on to a new chapter, I guess.

All very unexpected!

I couldn't resist this pretty-much-perfect Rover SD1 police car either:

IMG_20260320_133217.jpg.1eaa6b96bd09a40ac98b5e1c82c1385d.jpg

IMG_20260320_133224.jpg.2bc22f3d4c25c9650922824f92c550a3.jpg

It's a proper Lesney era version with 'Made In England' on the base, and as such doesn't have the usual twisted rear panel arising from a damaged mould on the later Macau-made castings.

A quick spin through Poundland, The Entertainer and Home Bargains brought nothing of any great interest either - but these more than make up for it.
