I saw a load of new(ish) Matchbox 5 packs in Morrisons, but none I was inspired to buy

What is the deal with old designs finding their way into multi packs though? That Mudstang is from ages ago isn't it?

*edit* yes 2017. Unsold stock or is it just cheaper to reuse an old design?

Can anyone share pics of genuine pre-production cars they own?

Here are 2 I got off ebay cheap a few years ago, I guess people thought that they were worn repaints and I paid a few quid for them after days on auction with no bids. Sale of the century for me really.

You can see how the casting varies over the engine, or how the back of the gold one has been hacked off. Pre productions are rough as man. There are more of these out there and they are well documented. I enjoyed having these but they were tatty and I moved them on (for a bit more than they cost me 😃 ).

The lifeguard Toyota Tacoma is older than that, my eldest had that one when she was at the age where she played with cars in about 2015ish

The silver one is exactly same shade as the VW 1600 I had. Sometimes you have to be careful as you can devise a colour change by leaving it in the sun for a year or two.

Wonder why they never made that one? I know the RS1700 was canned close to production, maybe that’s why.

Sure and I have seen that. Seems like there are a few fades being sold as legit variations these days, but all you have to do is look up inside to see the undamaged finish colour, as I'm sure you know. This and the 'amber' glazing... good grief. Yes, there was amber releases but the sun has added to those unfortunately, which are usually detected by fine crazing lines in the plastic. Again, with old stuff, the variations are likely to be already documented.

Here is a MICA example:

And the link to a great site for those of you who are wondering.

Years ago when I was bang into this in more than an unhealthy way, Regular wheels fakes were a hot topic, I guess now we are fully experiencing the Superfast era!

No idea. All I know is that these were presented at a dealer fair and at last count there were 4 or 5 known still in existence. They come in a white window box which in itself was some sort of trial, eventually becoming the blue window box we all know.

I have these resin pre-production samples of ERF and Iveco trucks that Lledo were intending to add to their Cargo Kings range but they never saw production because Lledo went into administration shortly afterwards. I bought the Iveco on eBid a few years ago and the seller then offered me the ERF; I assume he worked for Lledo and managed to acquire them in the chaos of the administration but didn't ask too many questions.

ERF_Iveco.jpg.8b3b10ef524fdf0e98bca6e0a521cd8d.jpg

From those came these as I thought they were too good to remain unique and gave them to a friend to make some resin copies. What I didn't realise is that the cabs were solid so he had to cast a solid copy, then hollow it out by hand and use that as a master, and I must say he did an excellent job.

Such a shame these didn't make it. After years of Days Gone crap, Lledo finally made something good, then went out of business before they could put them into production.

Crikey! I’ve never seen those before! They really are lovely. As you say, it’s like Lledo finally started to hit on something good then went under before they could finish the job. I don’t envy who had to hollow the resin copies out though. I bet that was a right pig of a job!

@quicksilver are you able to get onto RMweb forum? I haven’t been able to get on for a few days now. I just keep getting ‘400 Bad Request’ ???

Thanks, I sold a couple to another friend who is very much a perfectionist in his truck modelling and he said they're brilliant, so having his seal of approval means a lot. You've seen the Volvo FHs I've improved so I've no doubt these could have been made to look just as good and they were both very popular current trucks at the time so they would have sold well. My friend didn't complain about hollowing out the cab so I don't know how difficult it was; he just did it, then told me afterwards when he presented me with the finished castings. I thought the grey bit was an insert that would be clear on the production models, but it turned out to be very neatly applied paint.

RMweb is working fine for me and I can see content posted today so I'm not sure what might be causing your problem.

Were they the on runners from the Marathon range?

I don't think so. They're quite a bit bigger (1/76 scale) and I think Marathons had been discontinued some time before Cargo Kings appeared in the mid nineties. There were only two trucks produced in the range, a Volvo FH and American Kenworth, but they were made in many different liveries both as normal releases and promotionals.

Posted

I bought the Kenworth to go with my 1/25 Revell model I made in the mid 1990s. Given the quality* of the Marathon range I was not expecting much but was surprised at the improved level of detail.

That's actually very nice. I'm pretty well jel here as I have absolutely nothing that is "pre-production". The only model I have that is rare is the 1/25 Western Models Sterling.

I'm guessing this was for Corgi being the notorious Police SD1 that Corgi did.

How did you get your hands on it if I may ask? I'm guessing your not looking to part with it.

I bought it from a friend of my dad, who collected police memorabilia, I understand he got in a job lot of old police gear (uniform / badges / models etc) from an auction.  I'd be interested to know how it ended up at that auction, & where it was beforehand.

Its not a model I'm looking to move on, both my parents served in the Met police, and my dad was a traffic officer with them back in the 1970's & 80's before he retired, so this has some sentimental value to me.

This popped up on Vinted with minimal description, I thought it was a white Welly, but it's a Kinsmart. Didn't even know they did one in 1:64, we have some 1:28 versions here already

I only wanted the Maisto bus, which they described as a a radio/speaker, but they wouldn't post. Eventually they relented and listed the bus in its own....

It's massive, and not a radio - although it does have a speaker in the roof. Here it is with a Hot Wheels Kool Kombi

Me either, 1:10 scale apparently. Heaven knows where I'm actually going to put it...

I bought the Kenworth to go with my 1/25 Revell model I made in the mid 1990s. Given the quality* of the Marathon range I was not expecting much but was surprised at the improved level of detail.

I bought one of the Kenworths on eBay but got mildly annoyed. It was sold cheap as mint boxed and the model is indeed mint and in a box. However, the mirrors (supplied in a bag inside the box) are missing. They're a very distinctive style that can't easily be substituted, spares are unobtainium and it looks odd without them so I'm not really sure what to do with it.
