Well, good news! I have been asphyxiating myself rattle canning this:

 

 

in Poundshop NEON BLUE. It's a beautiful shade of blue, but it took five coats before it was a solid colour, then two coats of lacquer which I had to polish for ages. Whatever, it shines like glass now. 

 

 

Also, psyche! There WERE more Minis all along! 

 

 

 

No need for the before photos, you know what old Corgis with shagged paint look like. The purple one has black sills, which is a stylistic choice and not because I forgot to paint the baseplate. The yellow one was coming along quite nicely until I got black paint on the wing and accidentally removed the yellow trying to polish it off. So now it's all rusty, which I know is super unrealistic for a Mini so it may get resprayed.

Hey, cheers dude! Yeah I'm quite pleased with them; cheapo IKEA frames with glass shelves made up by a local glazier, and held in with Sugru. Cheap and cheerful!

On the right is  the Freeman Inter-City Commuter, one of my favourites, and I'm wondering if it's based on a real thing?  It's probably just a fantasy Superfast thing.  Puts me in mind of that Estafette hearse.

Yes and no...

 

The Freeman Inter-City Commuter never existed in real life, but was designed by a guy called Peter Freeman in 1965 for a Daily Telegraph competition to design a car of the future. He didn't win, but the paper printed his design sketch, and Matchbox later contacted him to ask if they could use the design for a new toy. In fairness to him, it was indeed a car of the future - twenty years after his design, along came the Renault Espace and Dodge Caravan...

 

 

As far as I know, a few of Matchbox's attempts to outdo Hot Wheels in the early '70s by modelling 'future cars' were based on prototypes and concept vehicles - probably cheaper and easier than having to dream up entirely new vehicles.

Amidst a somewhat busy day yesterday I managed to squeeze in a visit to the local charity shop. Usually the 20p toy car box is full of generic Chinese stuff, but I found these amongst them:

With the Proton mug and the Porsche 930 it came to £1.80 (plus another 30p for some postcards). Majorette Mercedes 300TE is a bit of a project, but with a set of wheels and a repaint it should be OK and the opening tailgate is still present and operational. As I seem to be hopeless at making any progress with my plastic kits so perhaps I need some quick, simple projects like this instead?

thought id join in here after having a rummage around. First of all we open this old joinery case and see what treasures lie within.

 

First out was this Burago chevrolet corvette with opening doors,bonnet,boot etc. windscreen missing and quite playworn

 

 

 

 

next up is a lilliput museum souvenir bus and a few boxed older items. Unsure of the age if im honest. Some are made by lledo too.

 

Ferrari dino made by maisto. A pull back and go

 

couple of cheap and cheerful vw buses. Also pull back and go i think. Remember playing with these as a youngster

 

a couple of very worn and well played corgi cars. way before my time too. Also a boxed bus

 

 

my first model i built aged around 9.

 

 

a couple for the bus lovers (and a leyland titan!)

That Peugeot Victoria is quite appealing - made by Safir.   I always like the random logos on those pull-back Chinese toys, too! 

 

Its always good to have some child-hood keepsakes....

Sadly most of these will probably end up for sale. No room and I really need to get rid of stuff as I plan on moving. I want to keep the Porsche as that was the one I built first. May end up finding somewhere to store the lot yet!
