More diecast dross.

The 205 cabriolet is a bit meh but the competition tag on the card is a time warp win

The Siku Xantia was a very impulse buy.

The majorette trio came as a job lot and they're all very neat, the 5 GT Turbo was a long term target as all the ones I see are absolutely battered.

There has been some toy fair today.

So I fuelled my warped plastic fetish further.

Another fabulous haul.  Why do Norevs warp?  I assumed that they were made by injection moulding - Was the cooling too rapid, causing age related shape memory or some other effect to distort the shape?  Nevertheless, they have a charm of their own and are instantly recognisable, unlike some diecasts of similar scale.

Good work Richard. I found a load of old copies of the Standard club magazine whilst clearing out today - want me to chuck them in the parcel with the cars?

Love shops like that. Wish we had summat like that round here. Her Junkman's fleet of wonky plastic is impressive to say the least. I know there is a 1/43 scale Sherpa campervan due out in a French partwork very soon, and they've done a Commer PB campervan in the series, I deffo want to get my hands on the Sherpa, even though its a left hand drive version

They've just done a Bedford CF camper in the French partwork series which was both RHD and on UK plates. I saw a couple in shops when I was in France a couple of weeks back but at €20 there were too expensive for me to resell given that theres a proper IXO version on the horizon and we'll see that partwork series in the UK at some point anyway.

Was very nice though.

Yes please Scott, those would be interesting to read.

Why do Norevs warp?

They are made from an acetate plastic called "Rhodialite", developed by Rhône-Poulenc and Rhodiaceta,

which can be easily coloured and yields that mirror gloss surface.

The warpage is caused by an ongoing chemical reaction that wasn't known at the time they were made initially.

Really old American promos suffer from the same problem for the same reason, they were made from "Cycolac",

an acetate plastic made by Kodak.

They switched to polystyrene plastic starting 1960 and by 1962 none of them were made from acetate anymore.

Norev however used Rhodialite until the early Seventies.

That Daffodil is sublime. I think Dinky may have made one at some point.

Dinky did indeed make one as did Lion Cars who are Dutch so they would. I do have that Norev Daf in that colour JM plus other Norevs which strangely aren't warped. Nice haul of them, I never see any at my local toyfair in Spalding. I used to buy Norevs on day trips to that there France place when I was but a youngster.

Won some 50's British Commercial Shite earlier in the shape of an Oxford Austin K8, £4.95 including postage  :-D  Has a damaged drivers mirror but not complaining at that price...

Strangely enough some of those Norevs are straight as an arrow, while others are hilariously warped.

There is no correlation with colours, like some of them would warp more than others, or anything, they just do it at random.

I still "have" that set, although its a bit of Trigger's broom really as only the Vanwall and BRM are the original ones that I had.   God knows what happened to the rest of it but its been replaced over the years.   Mine originally came with the much less realistic metallic blue Commer transporter and the Ferrari 166 instead of the Lotus....

I've seen pictures of that Hachette Autosleeper CF, there is also a UK Bedford CA in the range, but sellers are wanting nigh on £40 with shipping, sorry buy 'ahm oot'

This weekend's £5 find:

TOOT TOOT That's the sound of da police.

I thought they had a height requirement? Dude can't see over the steering wheel! His colleague was no better - rolling about in the back seat. My taxes pay your salary, don't you know?

Aside from the paint and collapsed interior, the condition was good. The glass was attached with a domed rivet, yet I managed to extract it without complete destruction.

Probably explains why he didn't realise he'd parked on that enormous yellow line.....Good find, its a nice casting that Hawk especially in black.   I've never understood the PC49 number plates though - its a reference to a much earlier radio serial and annuals that would probably have been lost on 1961 kids.

Because, for £2.60, who can resist a model with a plastic pot plant in it?

post-17021-0-71558900-1520357428_thumb.jpg

It's a bit bare otherwise. Where are the violent brown floral patters and mis-matched Formicas I'd expect in a 1970s caravan?

Here they are.

That brings back memories as my late grandparents had one of those caravans with the potted plant in their toybox for years. The towcar was a Merc 240D for the most miserable 1/36 scale holiday ever.

Posted

I was bought that new in either 75 or 76 on holiday in chapel-saint-Leonard's on the east coast, my best mate was with me he got a mini with tent & figures (man with spit roast & bird on Sun lounger).

I still have the blue & white caravan.

That caravan interior looks brilliant, that 1:36 caravan looks mega now, nice 2.3 Ghia Sierra towcar, Corgi really got their money out of that casting, I remember getting a silver one in Sierra branded packaging, loved it, wish I'd funds and space to get a 1:36 Corgi collection again, I had loads as a kid, and I miss em

I've that one as well, a later issue, I think the late 80's ones didn't have the pot plant.

Thats fantastic. Townsend Thoresen sticker in the front window makes it even more so for me.

mine was, i recall white, and had a red and white striped awning thing that pulled out of the side.
