^^^^Yes please, I lived in Germany as a kid (1987-88), so my stash of toys back in the UK is littered with them.

First one I got was a Volvo 740 saloon in gold, which from memory was absolutely massive - I think the castings were truly to scale.

Volvo 760 was pretty well covered in miniature: Corgi, Matchbox, Majorette and Siku all produced their own small-scale versions.

Kinda surprising that nearly all major manufacturers thought that the kiddies would be wanting a toy version of a Swedish luxobarge... but maybe they were right. Odd that no-one made an estate version in this scale though, as I would have thought they would have been the more common sight on the road.

Volvo 245 DL was also punted out by both Corgi Juniors and Majorette.

Oh, and the Rover 3500 SD1 - Matchbox and Corgi went head-to-head with both police and civvy versions.

Much as I like the Matchbox version's sliding sunroof, I think the Corgi Juniors version looks more 'right' - the MB version appears rather slab-sided and the nose looks a bit funny.

I had one of all of the above Volvos, barring the Majorette one; didn't know it was a thing, until now.

Totally different scale but here's my late Dinky 265 I had.

IIRC, there was a load of these police 265s that turned up unboxed years later. I certainly didn't get mine until the 1990's. Me and my older brother had a Superkings 245 each as kids and he also had the civvy version of the Dinky 265, in metallic blue. Apparently, I was the one who broke off it's boot lid. Must be annoying being the older brother! I think I broke his 1:18 Bburago Camargue, too....

Very likely - the model shop I worked in punted out bright orange versions of the Dinky 265, in a plain brown cardboard box, at £4 a pop. This was around 1995... I believe they were very cheap from a wholesaler. Stupidly, I didn't buy one as I already had an original metallic blue version...

Seems that police versions were circulated in similar packaging - seems to be some debate whether they were unboxed NOS left over from when Dinky went to the wall, or if the castings were shipped to Italy and remanufactured there.

Funny that when the cars were current, nobody thought to make a 200 saloon or a 700 estate!  Yes, I know about the big Swedish plastic ones (Stahlberg?), in fact I have a rather battered 144, but where were Corgi when we needed them?

Wowzers, that's some bona fide Siku stuff! I collected models of Transits back in the 1990's and almost bagged a mint, boxed Schulbus for not very much from swapmeet but my Dad wouldn't offer an advance on pocket money, so I went without. Great as they are, I must admit that Siku applied a bit of artistic licensing to the dimensions...

You're making me want to catch a flight home and route through all the stuff I have - I reckon if I saw the 1987 and 1988 catalogues again, I'd have a fair percentage of what was inside. Back in the late 80's when I moved back to Britain, Siku was virtually unobtainable. Certainly changed a few years later.

Posted

What keeps me from getting more Siku V Series stuff is that the asking prices are insane.

What I have I had for a long time and the garage transporters have been pieced together from various incomplete wrecks.

Some nice Siku pieces there Mr Junkman :happydance:

Didn't Siku build some of the cars marketed as Marklin in the 70s?

Posted

Pales in comparison to what Junkman posted but here is my latest acquisitions.

The Alfa cost me nearly a tenner but I really wanted it.

However the near mint Olds and Volvo/horsebox combo cost me £4... Go figure.

I had that olds as a kid. It came with a metal tailer and a flimsy plastic yacht. The latter 2 survived but I lost the car somewhere. I had to get a replacement one from ebay France last year although the Majorette scene tax (I'm convinced it's a thing in the UK!) didnt seem to hit this one and it was about 4 or 5 quid posted.

Its actually an Oldsmobile Omega, an odd looking US compact with 4 or 6 cylinder engines. Its an insanely odd choice of subject, possibly the oddest ever as even the Americans don't remember them fondly. The only thing I can think of is that the car was for sale in France at some point?

Saw a siku VW LT today in a box but the tailgate had gone which was a crying shame. They were fantastic models most so in the 1980s, the quality was very err German.

Posted

Majorette used to make some proper chod. I had one of those Giuliettas when I was a lad, it had a hard life and got badly painted in Humbrol at least twice but is still with us, eventually donated to Mrs6C to go with her real one.

Still does, I've a Toyota Corolla by them from Morrison's. Quality not quite as good but still its a cheap model.

Some majorette stuff is worth insane amounts of money. Simca 1100s and Fiat 127s for example...as well as the Citroen SM.

However a lot is still ignored. Good for me as I plan on building a sizeable collection.

Think I'll have over 30 soon, if not now.

Got some more interesting stuff incoming.

Last count I'd got about 150 mostly in a poor state, but I only collect the stuff I like that they do, the commercials and the fantasy type vehicles don't do much for me.

More drillage and strippage has occurred....

That fire engine was a bit of a pig to drill, and as you can see, the Lotus Elan has already had the treatment at some point in the past.

post-4559-0-06362300-1516044528_thumb.jpg

I'm going to need a bigger tub for the fire engine...

Got to have a 1956 convoy along the fence :)

post-4559-0-24234800-1516044889_thumb.jpg

The Lotus went in after the other three bodies, as did the window units from the first batch.  By the time they come out tomorrow they will have had 48 hours in the soup, which should sort out the stray paint, shouldn't it?

My mate had that Olds Omega - it met its fate in a fly-press in his dad's workshop.

Was your flimsy plastic yacht yellow and blue? If it was, I had the same one coupled with a colour-matched Honda Accord.

I have two of those Oldsmobiles, and nearly bought their 1/1 Buick cousin in about 2004. :)

I've seen what appears to be a 164; is that the one?  The front didn't look very 200 to me, but we might be thinking of two different models.

X-platform aficionados probably know but there was a decent Hot Wheels Chevrolet Citation that would go nice with these.....

I have both but sold the 127 for a quid a few weeks ago! Bumz! Thankfully it went because it was tatty and I already have a better condition one.
