I think they starting making metal 1:43s in about 1971, and at first the entire range was models they were already making in plastic, so there was a lot of crossover with both diecast and plastic versions of the same car. By the mid-70s the metal cars were the 'standard' range but they continued producing plastic versions of some as a 'budget' range. I've seen plastic versions of lots of 70s cars but they were definitely metal-only by the 1980s came round. As usual with these things, it's really annoying that there isn't a Norev nerd website which just has a complete list of models with dates and colours etc so this could be easily answered!

Norev still made plastic stuff in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Here's on of the worst renditions of a Dino 246 GTS I have ever seen in 1/43rd.

Unlike this SM Presidential, which looks quite good for a 1970s diecast.

One last bit of Norev trivia.

Norev sponsored Jimmy Mieusset, who became the company mascot.

Weirdest Norev I have is this 307CC paperweight...

... which I think is really cool.

A guy was remaking the surfboards for the MB9 Golf a while back out of resin. I think they were six quid a pop so not a bad little cottage industry.

Found a new series of Fat and Fabulous cars in BuM and Smyths today - just the Skyline to find, of course they were all gone

I spotted a couple of Matchbox oddities on eBay - a Turbo Fury, but with the 86 sticker normally found on the similar Blue Shark

PXL_20241009_193219601.jpg.b88fd9ca8ef25240d693e3ebfa316c5b.jpg

Plus yet another colour combination on the Sand Cat - the red/green version normally has a light grey interior and roof, but this one's got the black interior out of the orange version

PXL_20241009_193116884.jpg.f3f383231fd96a61a1f1202dcc4bd884.jpg

That'll go nicely with the others - I've got a red with all small wheels somewhere too

What resin do you use?
Most of the stuff on eBay seems to be clear which I think is meant for jewellery etc. does it really matter?

I saw my daughter yesterday and she makes jewellery using UV cured resin

I think I may get some to try

How resilient is the resin? Will it be durable enough?

That was one of my concerns with using car filler to fill the mould. It’s probably going to be quite brittle.

Although how much impact damage is a model likely to get?!

My mum was using one of those resin casting kits to make some little cup coasters with various things set into the resin and it seemed pretty robust stuff. It could scratch easy though (being clear) but if it’s on a model and painted it’ll probably be fine.

Nice work on that, particularly rebuilding the broken pillars! Very tidy.

I think that MG is probably one of my favourite Corgis of that era.

My much older cousin bought me the MG and also white Porsche with a translucent blue engine cover ..one Christmas , which is also my birthday   . He used to be like a big brother to me,    27,  and i was 6 ... My mum was furious when i came home from school and saw what i'd done .. and quite rightly so .. the mgb was a fabulous model .

Interesting conversations about resin. I've just won a donor Matchbox Renault 5 which I'm planning on using for resurrecting my own ruined original childhood example with. I originally bought another donor but it's in mint condition and way too nice to cut up.

This one was a bit pricey as a donor - I paid just under a fiver. However, I need the following and they're excellent on this example:

Blue tailgate

Decent glazing with rear lip to attach tailgate

Rear corner of the chassis (where the body locates into the chassis)

Tow hitch section of the interior moulding

Here's the donor:

I want to keep as much of my original model as possible so I hope to use a slitting disc on my dremel to cut the rear corner from the donor chassis and then attach it to my own.

What suggestions do folk on here have to attach it? It's quite a fragile little section and it's easy to see how it snapped off my original.

I'd suggest trying to fix the original base using something like chemical metal, or use the donor base. Going to be very hard joining the two bits together successfully

If it was me I’d use the whole donor base.
I know you wanted to save as much of your original as possible but in this case the joint on the chassis will be weak and prone to snapping again.
If you absolutely must, then as @bunglebus said, chemical metal epoxy or similar to both bond and reinforce the joint. Depending how much room there is on the inside (non visible side) you could even glue a thin strip of plastic or metal on to strengthen it a bit.
