Shite in Miniature II

MB definitely lean more towards everyday cars but those castings seem to be hard to find. The Volvo V60 is a nice one and I also got a green Mazda 2 for 25p at a car boot sale recently.

Poundland usually has them and B&M. I agree it can be tricky to get the saloon car based stuff but therein lies the fun.

I wanted a 1/18 Maserati 4200 but they don't make one , I even scoured the model shops in Italy, some really nice things I'd never seen before but no 4200

Posted

Bburago made one. I had one in dark blue until recently got about £20 for it on fleabay so you should be able to pick one up cheaply.

Not knowing much about newfangled tosh like that, but I guess you are right.
A 3200 is a 4200 if you say it is, no?

I get called a sad bastard for it but quite frankly I couldn’t give a shit. Watching the TV sounds like a sad hobby to me.

My vice is Matchbox stuff, of any age really, I’ve tried to collect as many variations as possible of stuff. I’ve even collected the new stuff, some of the models they bring out now are excellent, the Nissan 240k Skyline is great as is the VW transporter.

The best guide incidentally if you are into this stuff is the Charlie Mack guide, it’s about £25 and it’s got all the variations in, it’s invaluable.

When I was sorting out my models recently I was quite surprised at how many Matchbox models I had stashed away. Still have many that I bought new or was given as they were cheap, seem to recall that the 1-75 range were two bob (10p to you sprogs) for ages. Even found a carry case and a proper shop wall display cabinet from the Superfast era, bought that some years ago and it had never been used. I don't buy them all that often these days and the new range don't appear locally.

Poundland is your best bet.

Saw some Majorette ‘premium’ ones today, a bit more detailed, not disimilar to Siku. A bit dearer at £1.50 but some interesting chod like a C4 Cactus!

They were selling the Majorette premium cars in Tesco a while back, but they didn't seem to catch on(too pricey?)& they stopped selling them after a while.

I got that Cactus from Tesco for 75p when they were sacking off Majorette. Its my favourite modern model of that scale!

Thought I would take some photos of stuff lurking around in my lounge and share them with you whether you wanted me to or not. The Impalas on top of the cabinet are plastic kits made for me some years ago by a friend whose skill level was way above mine. They are nigh on perfect replicas of my Impalas. The middle row of the cabinet has the same two Impalas but in metal and were made by a company in California, they have superb detail, everything opens, the hubcaps can be removed etc etc. The 58 Chevy wagon and the 66 Pontiac are cars that I once owned in the olden days.

The elephant in the living room are those Mini Dinkys.

That's the stuff that separates the boys from the collectors.

You can't find that kind of shite even at toy fairs or on eBay.

Didn't JYD pick up one of those Mini dinky Chevy IIs recently?  I am looking for a set of axles if anybody has busted models!

Strangely I recently found that I have two of those Chevy II models, both are really nice. I also have a Mustang, Corsair and somewhere an MGB. The diorama was made by a model dealer guy so I bought it and added the Corvette and Chevy II.

Do any of you miniaturists know if a 305 van or estate was ever made to scale ? Bloody unlikely me thinks, but you never know.

I can't think of one, but others might know better.

Interestingly the same question was asked just a few weeks ago.

The 305 van was available as a 1/43 resin kit by Heco. It was a transkit for the Solido saloon.

The matrix mould is currently available on eBay:

Someone should buy it and make a batch.

The 305 Break was available in 1/43 by Paradcar and Nostalgie, both were Gendarmerie versions.

Good luck finding those.

Edit: It was also available from Universal Hobbies in a 'La Poste' version.

Going slightly off topic you may remember that when I posted pics of stuff in my lounge there is a tin plate 58 Chevy wagon and I said that I once had one? Well I found some photos of it if you're interested. I apologise for the crappy quality of the scanned ones when it was yellow but they were taken some forty years ago! And yes that is a much slimmer me trying to look cool and yes the bubble arched Anglia was mine as was the black F-type Victor. Anyway for your viewing pleasure. The good photos are of it now in Finland, I would love to have it back.

I used to have a pair of Stahlberg Ovlovs, a beige 343 and a blue 345, the 343 was damaged, but I sold the 345 for mucho coin, whished I'd kept it now, first time I came across them was at my mate Simon's house when I was about 6, his dad had a red 265GLE model that he wouldn't let anyone touch. The Saabs seem to suffer from cracking of the plastic, they also did a Saab Lancia Delta IIRC

How easy would it be to make some and would it be worth it ? Do you know what to do from that form ?

Obviously I would be the first customer.

Nice 700 there, I must get one.

My Saabs structure is absolutely fine, no cracking at all.

You use it to make a silicone mould from it that then is used to cast the bodies in resin.

Although I can do that, I'd prefer to give it to someone who has the right equipment and better skills.

The problem here is, though, that the second part of the mould, namely the inner core,

is not included and thus must be made.

The process is described here:

What you get in the auction is what you see at ca. 2:30 in the video.

Saw a Stahlberg Saab 900 at a flea market a while back. It was a bit damaged, wish I’d bought it now as it wasn’t expensive. I’d had one of those days though where you think ‘I’ve spent enough today’.

They're really good models. I've noticed with the Saabs they've even modelled the detail differences so there's the hatch versions and saloon types etc.

Same on the Volvo's, the early 244/5 and 264/5 with big bumpers and flat bonnet then the later 240 with upright grill and different bonnet.

There's also a Merc W123...

Didnt they also do a DAF?
