Dinky MG would be a Dublo at that size

I have something with a similar base - Tomica?

I'll have to check - it looks much bigger than 00 scale, bigger than any of the Dublos I've had, and bigger than late-50s Lesneys...

IMG_20230825_1203352.thumb.jpg.64e18e23467f230e2713f7cd7eb9f27b.jpg

Yet seemingly a good bit smaller than a standard Dinky.

IMG_20230825_1203182.thumb.jpg.270e622c685cada54b24429aa54e7f3b.jpg

50mm exactly in length.

A one-piece casting, and the underside says 'Meccano Dinky Toys' at the bonnet end, and 'Made in England' at the boot end.

I think it's a Tomica rip-off - some light Google-Fu indicates they did make a Skyline of that generation, but it had opening doors. This one has nothing opening.

It seems that Tins Toys in Hong Kong ripped off the casting, but it seems like a pretty crude rendering, with a plastic base and blanked-off rear window for some crazy reason.

It does, however, have the same T242 code - someone's listing one on eBay at the minute, complete with a drilled 'n' glued base and Corgi Junior wheels, just for maximum batshittery.

Why it's missing part of its front wing is anyone's guess.

'Nissa Skyline'.

LOL.

Most curious.

It wins the prize today for 'model I'd most like to have taken home with me' - but sadly, it won't be.

One for the research pile then! It looks smaller than the Cortina MKII in the Nemesis layout though. I don't want it though, unless around a pound

It piqued my curiosity enough to pay £2 for it!

I'll have a trawl through the Mike & Sue Thompson Dinky Bible later on, and see if they can shed any light on it.

Pics added upthread to give a sense of size/ detail.

Some pocket-change deals done, but the forum site still fallen over on its arse, I had time to quickly scoot round the other stalls...

Colin's unique diddly-dee blend of shamrocks, Hot Wheels and grave candles had a few more Greenlight and Oxford models in today...

IMG_20230825_0806392.thumb.jpg.f398b0e9de5c9ed70a1d947f808233fc.jpg

...plus these large-ish scale F1 transporters.

IMG_20230825_0809402.thumb.jpg.a8df596c9a4a9e7983f40df7d72a6af1.jpg

Apparently there was an Oxford delivery due, but it hadn't shown up yet.

IMG_20230825_0807322.thumb.jpg.501e9e4ad73acf81a68c8affff4845a0.jpg

Not much new down at the Mattel end, though £1 for some glow-in-the-dark thumbchucks sounds mega.

Larry's Independent Traders (charitable status - apparently now under review) had mostly stabby things again today.

IMG_20230825_0911402.thumb.jpg.9b2a266e127a02aeb58a28f51a9aa80f.jpg

Also, further inflationary rises to be seen:

IMG_20230825_0911282.thumb.jpg.451a58c3a62c009dcd34d014678345e6.jpg

I'm still not convinced these aren't harvested from public conveniences.

And this was distressing, while also bringing back some dim memories - something about 'The Dream Master'?:

IMG_20230825_0911452.thumb.jpg.e65de1f06f36bb7e78945e2c305c8f9f.jpg

Nope, fuck that right off.

[EDIT - seems this thing is 'Yano the Interactive Storyteller' from 2001 - but the memories this stirred were far, far older and more primeval than this. Guess I'm mistaken, but it reminds me from something from TV or a film in the dim and distant past (like 1985 or something) that gives me quite a strong repellant feeling...]

Alan seems to be focusing more on the livestock and dinosaur end of the 50p tray these days, rather than diecast...

IMG_20230825_0906072.thumb.jpg.6a8b62ac2b051f33c1f76ba1ee3c0f81.jpg

I guess he's gotta go where the big money is. His shareholder board would demand no less.

A tatty Majo Dodge and Leyland-less Matchbox tipper were pretty much the highlights.

IMG_20230825_0906212.thumb.jpg.ee44e1a74bfcc4b82a4f61266b175739.jpg

Other than the premium* Days Gone, of course.

At least it turns out he hadn't chucked the boxes from the early Vanguards.

Still, £12. Nah.

Did have some cassettes, though.

Over a leisurely coffee, some messages were exchanged with equally frustrated fellow-shiters boiling with frustration at the forum's offline status.

This led to photos being exchanged...

IMG_20230825_0833222.thumb.jpg.58817884880513fb84903a757ebcb491.jpg

...and, inexorably, led to the pair of Lesneys quickly finding a new home.

It also led me to think that maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to set up a Tat Friday WhatsApp group, as a sort-of emergency channel in case of further forum outages?

If you'd like to participate in such a thing, and are ok with others on here having access to your details (though really, I think there's been enough trading to make us all very familiar with each other's names and addresses), PM me your number and I'll get it set up.

Somebody's been busy pinching Tomica castings then... the body on the Skyline at the top of the door looks a bit damaged before it was even painted, so seemingly quality's not the main goal here.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Coffee glugged, and with the forum suddenly back to life, there was just enough time to trot round to the stall again...

While the Lesney Renault 17 was in a bit of a state with missing A-pillars, crushed roof and axles on the wonk.

IMG_20230825_0908212.thumb.jpg.df4a6249624d90699e535f6bceea6082.jpg

It was handy to use as a scale comparator for this lovely little early Lesney No.27A Bedford Low-Loader.

IMG_20230825_0908162.thumb.jpg.3902a3058b71fd923f9db3e90fe7817b.jpg

Early Lesneys like this really are so very tiny.

So I couldn't leave it... especially as the trailer was still there. £3 was paid, but I think you'll agree this is a cut above most of this week's box contents.

IMG_20230825_1204062.thumb.jpg.0bf67881632a7ac89a784b27a45369db.jpg

Smol!

So, at the halfway point...

Moggy Minor and Commer Cob are soon heading over to @Split_Pin; while I think @flat4alfa put his hand up for the Dinky MG?

Dinky Morris MO is playworn but fundamentally straight, and available for £3. Teenytiny Bedford is available for the same, but I won't cry if I have to hold on to it.

Heading back over now, to see what's remaining... or what's arrived.

Catch you on the flipside, kids...

Started restoring this ex @155V6 Rolls Royce last night. It’s marinating in some of Castrols finest DOT4 at the moment. It’ll be a hybrid of another I picked up recently to make one ‘good’ one from two ruins.

That's from a series launched in 2004 called Fatbax with cartoonesque proportions, yes that's Silhouette

Talking of cartoon proportions, there's something quite appealing about the latest lot such as the Baja Bug, Supra and soon to be launched 911. However as soon as I saw this...

Best batten down the hatches, maw - storm's a-coming.

IMG_20230825_1325082.thumb.jpg.0a285f4c54d20dfe719ed5462405e942.jpg

Mmm, dramatic.

However, inside the market was dry - and it appeared that there hadn't been all that many sales since I last clapped eyes on the stall.

IMG_20230825_1329112.thumb.jpg.a61b647890298997930dc1da8553952b.jpg

Dinky Mechanical Horse would probably clean up ok.

IMG_20230825_1329232.thumb.jpg.f57cc2ad2c63c574fce66732cca8e5c3.jpg

The front tyre's definitely seen better days, though.

IMG_20230825_1329322.thumb.jpg.738d15ecc2b4c009845f764db8056a0c.jpg

A better look at the Rolls Royce revealed it was quite a bit worse than I'd thought.

IMG_20230825_1329592.thumb.jpg.5b57734af52443f34b959a021822538e.jpg

Not only glazing damage, but a front wing ding too.

Rear section of the Karrier was, indeed, AWOL.

IMG_20230825_1330152.thumb.jpg.f98a22dfe5a2d2718841af88f00efd26.jpg

In fact, most of these were missing something or other fairly vital.

IMG_20230825_1330472.thumb.jpg.0032eefea11e02589fdd54fe0bde2305.jpg

If we're lucky, it could presage a long-overdue 50p tat box clearance...

As I left, I noticed that Spot-On Morris 1100 was still kicking about from a few months ago - the box is good, but £40 is steep given the paint damage and missing bits to the car itself.

IMG_20230825_1331232.thumb.jpg.a01948a369fc320a8cfe52a777f319a9.jpg

I loafed around town for a bit, dodging the rain and failing to find anything much of interest in Poundland or B&M, and eventually headed back to the office.

IMG_20230825_1440102.thumb.jpg.333e125d58bff58d6ae523d60f24985f.jpg

The mission was a success - with the requestedThames Trader secured for £2, and extra mud thrown in for free.

He knows how to look after his top customers.

And so - is that us for this week?

IMG_20230825_1441102.thumb.jpg.839c00dfb6dc713427fb75d214f3b074.jpg

I believe it is.

Maybe a modest haul, but ain't that just the way it goes, sometimes?

You just never know...

Happy Friday, kids - have a good 'un.
