That’s an early one, having the brass chassis. Sadly the brass gimball pickup and its carrier is missing.

Pop a PP3 battery between the copper flanges and with a bit of help the motor should turn.  Then sell it to me as I have this black Silver Cloud here and it wants a friend.  You can see the guide wheel halves and their carrier here on the left

They are fragile little things though at this age and are a bit of a headache

I grabbed the Universal Hobbies Bond partwork AMC Matador Coupe, which I believe @flat4alfa had expressed an interest in a few weeks back - but I'm equally happy to keep this one for myself...

It's an odd thing to model, and I like it for that.

Not so mad keen on the front wheels at full lock, but still - dynamic stance, no?

410869227_IMG_20230602_1616432.thumb.jpg.f7e2f9c1737980625f351299a353f4ef.jpg

Thanks, would still like it to eventually find its way into a CogBox™

It’s a funny model - the colour is tidy (a shade or two wrong though) but is well proportioned I think.  Scaramanger’s sideburns look ok, but Nick Nack looks like he’s either asleep or been shot.  The front wheels fixed on a turned position emphasises the terrible understeer of the real thing, except it looks worse, having the camber of a snapped top arm!

The Mercury Cougar in the collection also has turned steering in a similar fixed position, but it looks ok as the wheels are upright

Both were produced by Universal Hobbies

The Cougar also has some unfortunate body damage, sustained during the ice race.  Pre-dented diecasts, who would have thought we'd live to see the day?

Didn’t Corgi do this as a junior with fixed wings?

No they couldn’t get the licence or something and went ahead with a generic casting, with no marketing as part of the 007 range

From last year's musings... I'm pretty unclear about the origins of this one too, but I've managed to track down nearly all the 1970s Corgi catalogues and still haven't seen this one mentioned yet.

The Bill Manzke book on Corgi Juniors reckons it was made from 1976-78, and also advises "Believed to have been intended as a tie-in to a James Bond movie, but rejected by the licence owner".

It was also  made in Hong Kong rather than GB, which further muddies the waters.

CogBook™ entry on Aerocar   ^^^

It was seen in the latter pages of the 1977 catalogue but I think never again

Took a spin further afield yesterday morning to a far-flung branch of B&M, in an effort to track down some of the more elusive Hot Wheels specials...

761252993_IMG_20230603_0916072.thumb.jpg.f26acd9a65232038a58cb58af81ab39d.jpg

Sadly, despite a fairly well stocked display there wasn't any of what I was after - neither an Ultra Hots SP2 nor a Blue & Orange Anniversary Gazella R were anywhere to be seen on the pegs.

2009961434_IMG_20230603_0916132.thumb.jpg.777f6e21d99da43cf22a873acd543035.jpg

Plenty from the retro pick-up trucks range for £1.99, plus the Mud Runners for £3.49 (I kinda like some of them but they're really not much more detailed than the mainlines range; why they're twice the price baffles me a bit)

1614954464_IMG_20230603_0916252.thumb.jpg.cedd801410770f94d7df360d397bb742.jpg

Only three Ultra Hots remained - the El Camino and Brazilian Charger, which seem to be the two most common finds, plus a '67 Shelby. I can only presume the cases contain unequal numbers of each model, hence loads of El Caminos and Chargers in the limited number of stores that stock this line - but not so many of the others.

Not really sure to be annoyed by this, or impressed by Mattel's ability to keep everyone on their toes through creating artificial scarcity.

Five of the eight Flying Customs were still available here - no Shelbys, no Plymouth GTXs and no Nova wagons, but a few of each of the others remained.

No Escorts left in the Fast & Furious range, of course.

And the Lightyear character cars are, unsurprisingly, reduced to clear.

This store had plenty of 2022 and 2023 mainlines on a separate floor display, but I think we're all pretty much sorted now? There were IMSA Audi 80s and Mercedes 560 SECs too, but I've grabbed a fair few of each for myself and others in the past few months... so unless anyone still needs anything from the mainlines, I'll probably not be picking up any more.

Until a new case drops, obviously...

That Corgi trailer goes with a Jeep I think? Pretty sure there was a folded up plane or glider on it originally.

The Matchbox blue Leyland cab has two versions too, one like yours with the white grill, and another that hasn’t got the white bit. No idea why they did that!?

Ha! I didn’t know there was that trailer and cab set! I thought they all came with the little short dumper type trailer.
Although it does explain why there’s two slightly different cab designs!

I might have that trailer in a box of leftover stuff in my shed… I’ll have a look tomorrow.

It's a vitesse example. I bought this from a shop clearance in the late 90's on holiday in Torquay - not a vette fan but it is such a beautiful little model I bought it.

Onto my stuff, Corgi (predictable I know) Dino missing some paint, but all the bits still attached. Had a front tyre missing, but I had a spare (handy) and lucky it wasn't the larger back one as apparently no one makes a repro in that size

King Size dragster Mustang thing is nice, I discovered after I got home that it's missing the air intake scoop for the supercharger, but pretty sure I can make something to look acceptable when I get around to it

Corgi Cambridge in two tone paint. The windows were really dirty inside and I managed to get a small paint brush up inside the wheelarches to clean them to make a big improvement

A couple of little ones, I have examples of both, but I like them so why not?

IMG_6991.thumb.JPG.4735498ae1557882bb21cd890ec00991.JPG

A few Corgi Land Rovers for 50p each. These two are the best, an old one with the metal tow hook and a late Whizzwheels version missing spare wheel and tow hook

Two more, one has missing a pillars and the other no glazing and is the crane version. The plan is to restore the crane one as I have a crane and use the glazing from the other one. The two with a canopy are my original childhood toys.

Matchbox KS Merc ambulance, not one I wanted really, but 50p with all doors and tailgate still attached (I can't seem to open the tailgate) I took it

IMG_6989.thumb.JPG.aeae016be14d269d2dbe683595fa21b1.JPG

I thought to start with that this blue Alfasud was the same as the Polistil I got from @flat4alfabut it has wide arches and says "Cougar" on the plastic base and doors don't open

IMG_6992.thumb.JPG.8daa35bc1bd8d52fbafb122d7dc65381.JPG

Google tells me it is a Solido. Quite nice, shame the screen is cracked, I think I could push it out and make it better if I could get the base off.

IMG_6993.thumb.JPG.083741f53263a21ac08ab482bef77b18.JPG

It looks like it must clip on, but I can't see how. Does anyone know how to get it off?

IMG_6994.thumb.JPG.939a0fb00e9906196d8089d20acefb09.JPG

All the rest were 50p parts doners

The two Corgi Ghias are so I can restore my childhhood one, I did get one from Dan, but neither had the grill/bumper so these should supply all the missing bits

The Corgi Porsche has nice cast wheels that I'll use on something else and a metal steering wheel is useful

Late Corgi Whizzwheels VW with missing A pillar and broken suspension will be wheel donor unless anyone wants it

Late Corgi Whizzwheels Mungusta (I have the one with removeable chassis from new) will be wheel donor unless anyone wants it

I thought the two Corgi 007 Lotus Esprits would provide enough parts for one complete car, but it seems there's one of the rear fin things that pop out the back missing so not sure if I'll bother, let me know if you'd like them.

Originally I thought the screen was cracked but on close inspection it's a moulded in wiper!

A few Corgi Land Rovers for 50p each. These two are the best, an old one with the metal tow hook and a late Whizzwheels version missing spare wheel and tow hook

Two more, one has missing a pillars and the other no glazing and is the crane version. The plan is to restore the crane one as I have a crane and use the glazing from the other one. The two with a canopy are my original childhood toys.

Matchbox KS Merc ambulance, not one I wanted really, but 50p with all doors and tailgate still attached (I can't seem to open the tailgate) I took it

It looks like it must clip on, but I can't see how. Does anyone know how to get it off?

To get the Alfasud apart, you been to stick something thin but strong into the the hole in front of the front axle.Push it towards the front of the car,& the grille will pop out,the grille holds the car together.I've just done the same on the Dinky BMW 530 which I posted earlier, this is an ex Polistil casting & is held together the same way.

Edit:

I was feeling pleased with myself,so tried to take apart the Peugeot 504 which I got a few weeks back

This didn't go so well,I managed to break the tabs from the back of the grille,so the grille came out,but the car still wouldn't come apart

I managed to push the broken bits back inside the car,the problem was the Peugeot has seperate  bumpers which need to come out as welll,.It came apart in  the end though 😁

That was very interesting, I didn't know any of those toys as I'm (much) older than you. I was never mad on making the cars go fast so Hotwheels/Whizzwheels etc din't really do it for me so my vote is for the car that explodes on impact! Also how can you mot have any elastic bands in the house FFS?

Having clocked earlier posts for the golden jacks Corvette I remembered I have the green one but it is worse for wear.

I then remembered I had this -

It's a vitesse example. I bought this from a shop clearance in the late 90's on holiday in Torquay - not a vette fan but it is such a beautiful little model I bought it.

That looks great! What scale is it? It's giving me ideas for a custom Corgi Vette now!

Thanks for that, I thought it must be something to do with that hole, but couldn't work it out. I'll give it a go when I haven't just had a load of beers!

When I looked at it while giving it a wash I could only see "Thailand" on the strange looking base so I just ran down to the summer house and with the aid of spectacles a magnifying glass and a bright light I can confirm it is indeed a Matchbox! I is stoopid!

Im considering hitting up the car boot near us next weekend but it’s usually wall to wall shite, not often any diecast at all apart from smashed to bits Chinese tat from last 10 years.
