I hope my posts of Corgis are still of interest as lots of much more exotic toys are being posted all the time!

I'm pleased with the Bedford transporter and have loaded it with some suitable cars

IMG_6857.thumb.JPG.0ee23e69d709c6f59f69aace03d858df.JPG

I like the way the top bed collapses

IMG_6858.thumb.JPG.c32eab93f289c5f0b2c217ca3222dbd9.JPG

The paint on the cab does rather let it down and stops it looking as good as the others when on display

IMG_6859.thumb.JPG.74014e5e38d696072113290cf22f5e2f.JPG

I have another cab which is not quite the same, the differnces being it has a roof moulding (vent?) rear window is cut out (looks original) there's a number plate moulding on the o/s/r mudguard and the peg to locate the trailer is missing and casting different surrounding it. However the paint is much nicer while not perfect so considering either swapping the cabs over and modifying the nicer one to fit or restoring the original and maybe using the other one as a stand in until I get it done. Still have to make up my mind

IMG_6860.thumb.JPG.c774de06fbc8a7a1df0ec01fbba1b66f.JPG

Cleaned a fitted tyres on the Wicker Mini Cooper, still need to fit two new jewelled headlamps

IMG_6861.thumb.JPG.9e9f0781db3f52f1ec81f4a18e4d6bc6.JPG

Cleaned the yellow Cooper S still need to Molotow the roof rack and maybe replace some of the decals. The slight changes to the casting (wheel arches) and the wider Whizzwheels make it look much more realistic than the old rubber tyred Minis with their narrow track.

IMG_6862.thumb.JPG.dac26b46755b473e060cf38a1c2a8bfc.JPG

The Jag has new tyres fitted too as well as a clean, the driver has yet to report on his experience with it after a lifetime driving a Lotus Elan!

IMG_6863.thumb.JPG.b988c53f5dd2660f1585f11330018c3d.JPG

As previously mentioned the underside is lovely and shiny!

IMG_6877.thumb.JPG.0bb22dc0e737b0a179548b4d78169116.JPG

The 2000TC cleaned up well and a full set of Minilites fitted, still need to fit a new headlamp and polish up the sun roof with toothpaste as it's a bit scuffed and Molotow the chrome

IMG_6864.thumb.JPG.074a1ccc6276ed47a19e56a1e69de63c.JPG

The boot mounted spare looks pretty good without a lid, so now in two minds whether to get a replacement from Steve Flowers

IMG_6865.thumb.JPG.f8a452465c4892e9a96cb8912148895c.JPG

Here it is with my original 2000 from the transporter set

I had one in your colour scheme, but it was rough so...

..it got painted as a 'Christine' Wagon.  Then promptly lost the base and couldn't get finished!

Before the Interwebs explode, I reckon Christine could be a station wagon if it wants to identify as one.  Because in the book, Christine is stated as a 1958 four-door sedan Plymouth 'Fury' in red.  But in reality it would have to be a Belvedere if a four-door sedan body.  1958 Fury were too rare in 1983 to cut about, repaint and set on fire; which is why for filming they used adapted Savoy and Belvedere two-door hardtops.  18 of them.

A Fury, only available in white with gold trim

A Sport Suburban

You could pick your colour from the 1958 brochure  https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/brochures_1958_plymouth

Or this advert car looks nice

1901513883_1958PlymouthSportSuburbanStationWagon.thumb.JPG.0a911946fb1e689a437b02bac81c9f14.JPG

But Arnie Cunningham has already made his mind up what colour he would paint it

My Plymouth wagon is actually still here… I had two of the beige/tan version! You bought its twin!

I’ve actually just found a decent-ish US Mail version so I’ll have that one soon!

Definitely like the ‘Christine’ colour scheme. So this ratty one might become red/white. Although I do really like that aqua blue/white on the brochure too…

Halfords often have a clearance range at £3 a tin. I've picked up a lot of good colours that way - tends to be for '90s models, which suits me fine. The mica colours are particularly good as the flake is more to scale than a true metallic.

I've done the same but they've not had any clearance ones for at least 18 months now. Tried tonight but the ones in there had been dumped by a customer in the wrong place

I’ve never had a TK cabbed Carrimore, only the later types (Ford H/Scammell) and earlier ones with the Bedford S cab. Though I do have a TK cabbed low loader artic. Carrimore equipment carrier I think it’s called.

I've been playing swapsies - the Beetle gasser model kit is winging its way to @Spottedlaurel as I think he'll be a better custodian of it - but with the condition it's not to be build stock! In exchange I've got his rather lovely Rainbow Toys Granada

One of several green Hot Wheels X-Raycers Minis I'd acquired has gone off to @FakeConcern in exchange for a couple of Corgi African/Police Beetles that are in need of resto - I've got a parts car so in a good position to make one good one.

The two Hot Wheels Ultra Hots from Zie were exchanged for the Matchbox Transporter I picked up a few weeks ago

Much more fun than just buying stuff. However actual electronic currency was exchanged with an eBay seller for this very tidy Corgi VW Hot Rod

Of Merc R230 SLs with functioning folding roofs, the 1:18 effort from Motormax ain't at all bad.

Mmax1.jpeg.7d81dbf75816cd8a790f52257c5aea17.jpeg

Not my pics but you get the general idea. The actual roof mech works pretty much exactly like the prototype; the only limitation is that the bootlid doesn't work as a conventional bootlid like it does in reality, but to model that would have involved a fiendishly complicated double hinge of some kind.

The other 1:18 I have with a working roof is a Welly Peugeot 206CC (my pics this time)

741501035_Screenshot2023-05-22at21_17_25.thumb.png.b44dbe801fd39e11b6199289bc3e3084.png

This is a legitimately great model, bought because I really, really like it when a diecast maker decides to model something entirely humdrum and prosaic to a large scale. What's more, after it had been released for ten years or so, it wasn't exactly sought-after, so I picked it up on eBay for like £12 or something daft.

I particularly like how the little casting error on the front wheelarch makes it look like rust is taking hold. Prototypical to the last.

I've had quite a few white metal models pass through my hands over the years, so here's a couple of Plymouths that have come and gone.

Brooklin did a nice version of the '56 Fury, in white and gold. The '56 is not as outlandish as the '57 and '58 versions, and looks a bit short and stumpy when compared to those later cars.

The model was first released by Brooklin in 1997 and then deleted in 2005. Apart from this version they only made on other which is a car that took part in the Pikes Peak hill climb event.

More Plymouth action here today!

Pretty good overall US Mail version of the Plymouth wagon. A few chips, but glazing/pillars/decals all present still. Just needs new boots which I’ve already got. Somewhere.

Joined by another Matchbox Kingsize Mercury Cougar.

This ones not quite as nice as my other ones so will be a strip & repaint candidate. The others were too nice imho and I’d hate to ruin a good condition one!
Paint on this one is ok, but not something that’s a big loss by stripping it. Everything else is perfect though so a good model can easily be made from it. Replacement tyres are here for this too.
Not settled on a colour yet… although I do have a few rattle cans of Ford (US) light green as applied to my 1:1 scale Mercury!

Also bought another Gamda Koor last night… it’s not one of the more popular models though and took me a while to find a decent one. It’s coming from the US though so it’ll take a while to arrive yet! It’s a very cool car though! Any guesses…

How about the '68 XR-7 from Dusk Till Dawn, the Gecko Brothers car

Film car was a non-factory dark brown with a saddle interior

Hood scoop was off a '73 Comet and the rear spoiler a '69 Mustang, but you really don't need those.  Shiny shiny dark brown metallic I think would look smart

Otherwise, how about the XR7-G, the Dan Gurney special edition in gold with brown vinyl roof.

Racing driver Dan Gurney was Mercury PR campaign face, as Mustang had Caroll Shelby (in more ways than one, as Shelby did the Gurney cars too)

I’m embarrassed to confess I didn’t realise that theCougar was a Mustang in a fancy suit until I was about 25.

My Dinky Cougar was , along with my purple Eldorado and red Monteverdi my favourite cars when I was kid too.

It’s far from mint, but it’s complete with good glazing, so a repaint might be in order? Maybe.

Why did they brand or sell some of these toys as Detroit Senior? Seems strange to use different names.

The '66 Dodge Charger that lives here is a Cragstan, who just commissioned the Sabra range line-up for rebranding and repackaging for the US market (Stars & Stripes, America America etc), yet I found my example in France...  Painted it up recently then found the rest of it has gone missing.  So it still looks like this

IMG_20230523_201549.jpg.6947bada819e6cf44412b0fdbb6762a4.jpg

I'm not sure Cragstan made much themselves, at least in this era onwards, they seemed to buy-in product for rebranding: slot cars, plastic toys, etc which is why you find Made in Hong Kong on those.  Previous examples of the 'Detroit' moniker was used on imported slot car sets

1013030957_s-l1600(1).thumb.jpg.49f24be909443acbc262b0b4f50f3e18.jpg

and pre-war models, not unlike what Matchbox did with MoY, except cruder and in plastic

Detroit Senior (or sr.) was applied to the range of better quality* and better detailed diecasts, that followed from mid-1960s, sourced from Israeli manufacturer Gamda Koor

It was missing the right door and dashboard plus one rear light, but as I'm such a good hoarder/ collector of miniature tat I had the parts in stock.
