Looks a similar size to the Majorette monster trucks provided as part of the Kelloggs promotion in the 1990s...

(Wild guess)

Hah, brilliant!

Seems that you never forget the excitement of a box that shape being dropped off by the postie...

I always get a pang of upset when the 4x4 Cherokee is shown

Because of the POOR DECAPTITATED DAG

Or should that be de-footed dag.

Maybe just because you're in that part of the world, but my first thought was Leyland P76. That would be a pretty off the wall choice but then again toy manufacturers have often gone for some weird subjects. Makes me wonder, has anyone ever modelled the P76?

1 hour ago, Datsuncog said:

I don't think it was ever modelled in period, but Trax do a 1/43 version:

Leyland P76 by Trax – Mike Pigott's Diecast Toys & Models

Trax also do a model of the strangled-at-birth P76 Force 7 coupe, too.

I've had those three P76 pass through over the years and have also had a Trax P76 Targa Florio

I like the Trax range as they cover pretty much all of the domestic Australian cars built. Some of them are becoming quite sort after and if I ever put any up for sale, they find new homes quite quickly.

Picked this plastic, friction-powered Vectra up in a local charity shop. I rather like it!

You need to find the Spanish Policia one now

Had a few of those.  As they are 1:32, they sell well on slot car section of eBay

I think they are sold in Dickie Toys boxes

I think I only even got the Kellogg's Beetle, Mini and Minor - not even the 2CV.

I can still feel the annoyance at the scale discrepancy of the Mini compared to the others

Been fondling this.

It's the Budgie "Jumbo" range example nabbed from @danthecapriman last month.  Do quite like this one, it's certainly unusual.  Scale is approx 1:64, yet is is still 6½ inches in length.

WP_20230203_20_56_55_Rich.jpg.88a7e4b99f05b277cec9c55432fab845.jpg

The tractor unit is Seddon Diesel and with the trailer, dates from 1959-63 in the catalogues

WP_20230203_20_58_10_Rich.jpg.5b019c68143bf7bbf3d5bc08979d11f9.jpg

The trailer is Mobile Traffic Control Unit in as you can see in the AA Automobile Association livery.  It seemed to be the only livery they did, which made me think it was modelled on a real thing, but had not been able to find a period photo...

WP_20230203_20_57_31_Rich.jpg.9192bdbe4df1b86d4d12c2c97f4a20b5.jpg

However!   Stumbled upon the 1959 Morris & Stone catalogue sheet for their Budgie range, showing a cropped and coloured photo of one

Ungddtitled.jpg.bec396e925c2a44506e6d9292f4fa824.jpg

Not only that, a bit more googlification found this modern day painting by artist Mike Jefferies.

AA-Seddon-Tractor-unit-and-Mobile-office-Eaton.webp.b7532db067af6aebe094f2670f703553.webp

A mobile office such as this I reckon was probably unique in1959, if so then perhaps we have a registration plate for it.  Hurrah!

I have made a mistake buying some tyres for Corgi Minis, Cortina, Imp etc.

I've bought tyres from Steve Flowers before now, but at the moment I'm working on a massive order for bits and pieces and wanted the tyres quickly.

So I bought these on ebay thinking they must be the Corgi Mini ones, but they are too small.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225414618292

Description seemed right...

however completely wrong, I have no idea what these can be for, but nothing I own.

Anyone want them for £5, I paid £8.37?

Posted

I'm stumped as to what they're intended for. They look rather knobbly compared to most of the ones I've seen.

Does say Spot-On as the brand

hmmm, thought they look like the smaller Spot On size (Mini, Goggomobil, Isetta etc) but I've just measured mine (stop it!) and they're about 12mm outer diameter

I wonder if they might fit trailer wheels - thinking about the like of the Corgi Rice Horsebox?

I don't have one to hand to check, but I seem to recall they had very small hubs...

The trailer I was thinking of was blue with a more pointy front - but now I've found a few pics online, the repro tyres don't look like they'd fit it either.

The trailer supplied in the Lotus Racing Set had rather small wheels:

Might fit that?

I wondered if the mystery tyre might be from a Spot On, too (minus lettering).

Consulted my bookshelf Zephyr which has tiny hubs (see AS Sapphire for comparison):

20230310_135739.thumb.jpg.8edb7fcc314178e2b9eff85974906277.jpg

20230310_140213.thumb.jpg.5521deab5f3cda4c6ed232133bd592a1.jpg

But it's got big fat sidewall specimens, so I'm guessing these aren't the intended recipients.

Putting them back in their places, I remembered this:

20230310_140310.thumb.jpg.14e60dc70565e51823097a86ac05cbcc.jpg

Comically tiny hubs/tyres compared to other Spot Ons but they do look right.

20230310_140333.thumb.jpg.a7323c718bce687365b52b9774ffa408.jpg

Then I snapped a quick comparison, which inadvertently emulated some worn out overpriced shite grudgematch.

Grrrr! etc.
