I love a van, especially if I can remember actually seeing them around, being driven in one, or maybe even driving one.  I well remember the Iveco with that front, although I didn't get to drive one until 1997 when the front had been changed at least twice.

In other news, a parcel has arrived.  Photos will follow, but not until I've made another collection.  Cryptic hey!

I was going to say it's a shame they didn't detail the front. I wonder why they detailed the engine when you can't see it?

Mattel love putting easter eggs like that into their cars, that you only find by dismantling it. I've found a few engines and items in boots that have no need to be there. I'm sure someone will get their jeweler's saw out and create an opening bonnet on one of these soon enough

Team Transport Merc is nice but not £15 nice. There are three sets in this series, the one with a Ford truck and Galaxie looks very cool but there were none left

Overcome with desire at seeing that Escort in the wild - and also in need of a loaf of bread for the morning - I made my excuses and scuttled out to Tesco earlier...

Although the dump bins for both Matchbox and Hot Wheels had been replenished since I last poked around a week or two ago, there wasn't any new stuff that I could see - the Matchbox was the same case as before, with lots of those horrid little EV bus things and the push-me-pull-you car.

Any Kadetts that may have lurked within had already been filleted out. Bah.

UK Collection models were back..

1141219383_IMG_20221102_2135342.thumb.jpg.4195de63ee1c4afbf9c95b2e69d86ccc.jpg

No Capris though; a single Jag XJ140, a handful of Bland Rovers and lashings and lashings of London Taxis were all that was left on the pegs.

Five-packs were quite good, though:

1861461794_IMG_20221102_2134112.thumb.jpg.8d5e1d2069315f3f82362a5adae4e10f.jpg

Caprice in dark blue looked well; also the Dodge Powerwagon in Team Matchbox colours was a nice nod to the early-80s Chevy Van with similar ride height and decor.

The TV van Transit appealed also - I don't think it comes with a pop-up camera like the older Mercedes 308D did, but it looked like it had something on the roof that did something...

I would have been all over these when I was nine or ten; they're nice sets, and not bad value at £6.50.

Hot Wheels looked to be a similar minefield of disappointment...

£2 price point is enough to create a minor intake of breath; I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, as they were round about £1 for decades.

But I don't think we'll ever see them dip below the £2 mark again.

Some judicious hoking did uncover a few interesting castings though at the bottom, though - the all-black 'Chevelle Express', the orange Gran Torino, and the quite delightful Thunderbird drag racer.

But I did come away with this...

The R12 was sold in Home Bargains back in Xmas 2006.

Posted

I remember seeing those R12s in a 99p shop in Liverpool; 2006 might be about right.  They had the R12 and a CHP Ford Crown Vic.  I bought several of the Fords, but failed to pick up a Renault.  I think there was something else, painted gold, but it didn't interest me much at the time and now I can't even remember what it was!

It's my 11th Wedding Anniversary on Friday. My wife and I both have the day off, child free and a nice breakfast booked at the Ivy in Glasgow.

The reason it has got to 11 years is because my wife is fine with me visiting The Entertainer beforehand, plus other shops afterwards, to try and find the Escort.

Ironically it’s my wedding anniversary this month. Doubt there will be much diecast in Benidorm but you never know there is a car boot on the Sunday... 🤣

You'll only find them 2nd hand now - some people got bent out of shape about kids playing with a hearse because of DEATH, so they converted it into an ambulance, which is fine apparently because no pain, suffering or death ever happened in one of those

Great collection.  Old Cars is a weird one. I bought a lovely Iveco Turbo Lorry in 1996 and it took me about 25 years to establish who the maker was! Very detailed.

Lunchtime laptop tat (or at least, it was lunchtime when I started typing this): Hot Wheels 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS.

Not quite my usual fare, but one I've had kicking around for 16 years now - and don't think I've ever mentioned it on here.

1056651207_IMG_20221103_1250302.thumb.jpg.ff90957a7e2617cefcd3e95f53dbd276.jpg

It's from the Ultra Hots range, and I picked it up at a Target store in Queensland in 2006 - mainly because I just loved the metalflake purple.

637342517_IMG_20221103_1250462.thumb.jpg.ea0234cc36d9d03fc0e7a47dd1cd9903.jpg

I can't remember how much I paid at the time, but it was a fair bit more than a standard mainline - maybe AU$10 or so.

1732528325_IMG_20221103_1250572.thumb.jpg.f8238425442e2ff38ac0026fa461ca15.jpg

Better paint detailing, all-metal construction, rubber tyres and of course the opening bonnet were the reason for the price premium.

1425379033_IMG_20221103_1251282.thumb.jpg.5a074e3452f1615ca39fe2c859ab0f7d.jpg

And those tyres sure are meaty.

There's a few paintwork blemishes, and the underside of the rear spoiler doesn't have great paint coverage, but still - it's a nice wee thing, pleasantly heavy in the hand and one of the few physical links to what was a very odd stage of my life.

I got a strange Hot Wheels today:

This, apparently is a G Machines '68 Camaro, I'd say around 1:43 scale but I'm not sure. I didn't even know this range existed, looks more like a Jada20221103_145651.thumb.jpg.cd82036366feecb176799d8c698df64b.jpg

They are 1/50th scale.

After a quick search on the interwebs this page  Hot Wheels 2008 - G-Machines (hotwheelsbr.com)  from Brazil turned up and it looks like your car was in a set of 4 issued in 2008.

I'm in Hexham (Nr Newcastle,) for the weekend.

Any good markets up here with diecast available?

Preferably bus models, but happy to peruse cars.

Me and the Mrs have clocked up nearly 20. She's so lucky... my love of diecast means I'm piss-easy to buy for! Corgi have even gone back to three  batches of new  releases a year, so there's birthday, anniversary and Christmas taken care of nicely. Nowadays, I'll casually point something new out and the standard response will be "You want it, get it.  Put it away for Christmas/birthday, etc".

I don't even think she's twigged yet that me cheerfully volunteering to do the big shop every Saturday while she works is because it gives me the complete, unfettered opportunity to trawl Asda, Tesco and Morrisons hunting for new Hot Wheels and Matchbox...

And I'm allowed to have a cabinet full of these on display in the house.

Although I'm acutely aware of the fact that she knows when I croak, her and the kids will be in for a few quid. She's even asked me if I'd mind making sure they're all re-boxed beforehand.... 🤣

That is one tasty 1/43 collection. Nicely consistent too, unlike my motley rammle of 70s and 80s Bburagos, 50s and 60s 1/43s, 70s Corgis and 1/76 buses!

On the way to Hexham yesterday, I took a slight* detour to Southport to collect two auction lots, I won last week. This came as a surprise to Mrs Cookie. I didn't tell her how much I had spent.

First lot was 3 CMNL MB Citaro, that turned out to be 5! Always a good day when you get extra.

20221104_072305.thumb.jpg.6f21c77c22a982c47ee466978883c955.jpg

The second lot was 10 CMNL, 7 Darts (ALX200) and 3 Scania omni.

I bid on these lots, as each lot had a bus I wanted.

If I can hide the amount I've spent, I will keep them, otherwise the ones I don't want will be heading off to the bay of e.

Have to admit, I am quite picky with the cabinet, with it being on display, everything has to be organised. Up in the loft, the rest of the collection is as ramshackle as any other!

CMNL were peak model bus in my opinion. Finely detailed and not too expensive. It's a shame they faded away.

If you can find an Alexander Royale Bodied Olympian you'll not be disappointed!

They are still going, but new releases now range from 59.99 to 79 (ish).

Can't afford new ones, although Mrs Cookie is getting me one for Christmas.

I did pick up a Royale in local livery, earlier this year.

They are lovely models, but I only buy if cheap.
