Shite in Miniature II

I love the Val models - bloody amazing work. I can't quite get my head around this whole 3D printing thing; so you design the shell in a CAD type program, then what? I saw the RC Val and Minis video a couple of years back - the designer spent an age making it work iirc, but it looked fantastic. Love this sort of thing.

Following the real size purchases of RobT's and Breadvan's Daimler Sovereigns, models had to follow!

They were the same price but the S1 is smart and detailed and the S2 is very poor and out of scale.

Like times 111111111. Only thing, the dormobile was a Ford Thames, not a Commer in the film :)

True, but it's difficult to get exactly the right thing in the scale you want.  I think that Commer was actually supplied by Charlie (morris_ital_lover) on here.

You're spot on.  Design the bodyshell in a CAD program or buy it from somewhere like this, then get the surface stitched together and hollowed out.  Then you send it to a 3D printing company who will make it in 3D.  You can either plonk this onto your chassis or use it as the master for a silicone mould and then resin cast bodyshells from it.  That's what I normally do but I might stick with the 3D printed ones for this as I'm not sure how many I will sell.

The advantage of 3D printing is that once you've got the master model, you can scale it to whatever you want.  Wonder if there's a market for all those 1:43  Mini Coopers using a 1:50 Bedford Val - the wrong bus at the wrong scale?

Why have they put a factory fresh Allegro in the Hidden Treasures box?

Posted

Bought this from a guy on a diecast Facebook group, 1/18 scale Opel Commodore A. I've wanted one since spotting a well used example in 1990, well before they were regarded as anything other than old bangers.

The model is by Revell and is 'Composite' ie plastic. The detail is brilliant but it's quite fragile. Box says © 2010 and I've not seen any others like this so I guess they abandoned this material?

Paid a whole five euro for it too,not sure what that is in £'s but 3-4 quid I guess.

Fantastic detail on it,shame they painted it gloss, would be sooo much better in a matt finish 8)

You swine!  Now I'm jealous!

That Marina looks so much like the one I killed the Regata with, just after it was repaired with secondhand parts including the bonnet and grille off my previous one!

Some new shizzle from Oxford Diecast in 1/76 scale.

Triumph looks good in Tahiti Blue

The new Astra. Not quite right as it has a definite arse in the air stance and standard wheeltrims on a GTE so a few tweaks are called for.

Astra wheel issue is fixed. These are from an American police car, the same as I used on the Victor, but do look a lot like the GTE style. Better?

I had some time to try out the Minis, once you've got rid of the initial stickyness of the tyres they're quite a nice drive, not so likely to tip over as the Scalextric version.

And my coach arrived today!  Running gear fitted.

Fitted to the coach bodyshell.

"Get the wheels in line!"

Yes, they all fit, thank goodness.

Yes, any scale at all.  I'd probably draw the line at 1:1 though.

The cost at larger scales is entirely terrifying and someone already does it at 1:24, contact Tony who sells these resin kits.

Well, he also sells the Mooneyes Streamliner, albeit in HO scale.

Another thing that needs blow uppage to the only proper scale.

If everyone would just stick to the proper scale, I wouldn't have to buy all that 1/18 scale chod.

Been playing with Sharpies to add a bit of detail/weathering to some old Diecast shite,

Had a go with this battered old Corgi transit to try and add some general neglect and grimness to it.

Ok(ish) for a first effort.

over the last couple of months i've been buying some old diecasts. starting with this.

unsafe at any speed, a Chevy Corvair. this was horrid in so many ways, its been striped, new tires, windows and a fresh coat of paint. to say i'm pleased on how its come out is an understatement.

post-18270-0-33512100-1468081442_thumb.jpg

and yes, i only really bought it cos it was cheap.....

post-18270-0-91054800-1468081475_thumb.jpg

then at the mini and metro show i picked up these beauties

the singer will at some point get striped and repainted. i've already got some gold coloured paint for it! the Dinky Mini police car will be left as it is in nice, used and shabby condition...

then well as i liked Egg's Mini Clubbie so very much, i felt the need to get another one.

Reynard metallic paint?

post-18270-0-54698000-1468081799_thumb.jpg

opps.... caught by the fuzz??

that led me on to go and buy these. the doors and bonnet opens on the Mini, as do those on the Police one, the blue one also has with seat backs that tilt inside, and the blind on the sun roof opens and closes. the bonnet and boot on the Imp open too, while the jewel headlamps are a nice touch.

and last but not least, this little sweetie. its paintwork is original, while the box is a reproduction one.

finally, a group picture, there may be a pattern emerging from the recent toy car buyage i've been doing.

Cool, I've got the Mini with the sun blind, mine is green.  I also had the purple one as a kid, unfortunately for its value (but fortunately for my enjoyment) I painted it up as Martin's Marvellous Mini (called George)

You've opened a small window in my cluttered memory now. I vaguely remember another comic Mini, or rather 3 .

It was 3 kids who I think used to have a series where they solved mysteries on bikes ( small wheeled Moulton type things ) then must have got older and did the same in , I think, Mini Clubmans.

No idea which comic and can't find anything on Google, anybody else ancient enough to remember?

Brilliant,I did that to a Matchbox racing Mini  :-D

Do not paint the Singer Vogue, it is a rare colour and has a value in any condition. I have a boxed example.

really?

i bought it as a £4 (i think)  snotter....

well in that case the singer will be staying in the gloriously shabby chic condition that it currently is in!

i will soon find another victim candidate for the gold paint.

thanks for that!
