I've got one of those Atlanteans at home and they are quite heavy and pleasingly chunky.

And the real Atlantean actually survives too, there is an argument over which is the oldest between that and the preserved Glasgow example

I've decided to give one of my slightly careworn Vanguards a bit of a facelift, it's a work in progress

My best mate and I demolished one of those Majorette Oldsmobiles in a fly-press when we were 12. Most satisfying.

I had that Wallasey Atlantean and also a Manchester one, they survived a few shelf falls unscathed! Think the floor came off worse!

I like the crude charm of those old 1/50 scale buses, you got a bargain there. Kays Catalogue had a run of 1/50 scale stuff in plain green boxes that just had Limited Edition on the front, with the Corgi logo.

My daily 1:18 search on eBay seems to be becoming increasingly fruitless.

I always set the search parameters to "ending soonest", "auction only" "£0-15" and would usually find at least something worth bidding for every week.

Now the search results are knee deep in "Rare" Maisto motorbikes and "L@@K"  Bburago Dodge Vipers. People are asking silly money for the most mundane stuff. Also, you can fuck off with your £12.99 postage and packing.

Seems to be the way with Ebay now.   Gone are the days of 99p brochures, decent vinyl records or 78s and indeed reasonably priced diecast.    Stupid words in titles are another sign of the times it would appear.....

Of course when I list any bargains no bugger buys them either.

I've just seen pictures of the next half year Vanguards releases. There are just 5!! Another Capri 2.8 injection, a blue big bumper Sherpa cabrio, a series 1 Landy, A Mk2 Cavalier SRi And an Avenger. So that's no money from me! Asshats they are, none of those will sell

Posted

They have missed quite a few 60's 70's cars TBH, namely FD and FE Vauxhalls . :-(

Taff's dipping his toe in now, I think the Firenza has gone down fairly well. I will no doubt be trawling egay for cheapies and partworks for my 'fix'. I wish Lobster would get in the Eaglemoss Opel Bedford CF blitz

Ebay?  Cheapies?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Good luck.  I do the same, and my success rate is in freefall.

The Original Omnibus Company is even worse. Just four, all modern Wrightbuses. What a pathetic show from Corgi.

I can see this being the end for Corgi, it's clearly a sign of a company in their death throws, when you have Oxford who have just announced their biggest release plan ever, with umpteen new castings in 00 scale

I have a lot of the Chinese sellers and Polski/Latvians saved on egay, and every now and again they turn up stuff at reasonable price levels. I collect 1/43, so there is always something interesting about chod wise

Join some Diecast pages in FB, loads of bargain 1:18 there, I've bought loads and swapped with some nearby members. Plus scammers are always outed and banned and paying by PayPal is pretty much mandatory.

Ah, but then I'm doomed to keep buying them! At least supply shortage helps me control my addiction.

I’m in a similar situation with 1:24 kits. I’m always sticking bids in but very few of them come off. The days of getting anything overlooked for 99p seem to be long gone, but sometimes it works out and I get something at a reasonable price. This Legacy was just under a tenner:

Which is a pretty good price for something by Hasegawa.

That would go nicely in the Legacy wouldn't it? A bit beyond what I tend to spend however - I don't think I've ever paid more than £20 for any kit. When it eventually gets built a set of accessory wheels will probably be as far as I'll go with it.

I'm slowly progressing my 'Euro Lowrider' Prelude:

Clearcoat applied last weekend. It's been drying out in the airing cupboard all week so should be ready for polishing this weekend. Interior is in the process of being painted, now to crack on with suspension.

This 300ZX is next on the list:

Which basecoat did you use on that Prelude?

Tamiya fine white surface primer, followed by a thin coat or two of their TS-34 Camel Yellow (as below), then TS-52 Candy Lime Green.

As a black moulding I wanted to make sure that it was well and truly covered, and I wanted the green to have a warm, slightly golden tinge. It's been finished off with TS-13 clear.

At present I can't justify moving to an airbrush, I get a good enough finish from cans for what I want.

Actually I did get a reasonable deal the other week-

It's an age old model but they captured the lines really well:

It's only an old Guiloy, but it was MIB £8 and came with another 1:18 Bburago as part of the deal. Albeit a bloody Viper with a broken seat.

I've now completed my 'piss around with an old and fucked Vanguard Granada', reasonably happy with the results, had a set of boggo spec Granada wheels and rad grille donated via a mate on a fb diecast group, he refused any form of payment. Poundland silver aint bad :)

Years back I built a Fujimi Pajero that was motorised, I think it even had 2 settings for 2wd and 4wd

There's only five partly because most of the first half of the years stuff hasn't come out yet but yes it's a disappointing selection. Didn't expect new castings as they haven't got the money - I've heard about Hornbys financial issues and it does sound difficult - of the new stuff the Capri should sell ok but the rest are a bit meh.

I pre-ordered three models in December and none have arrived yet. Oh well.

I also pre-ordered the Avenger as it's basically the only interesting release this half of the year. I wonder why Corgi do so badly now? When I was really into collecting when I was 11-14 they were almost untouchable, yet now seem to be on a tight rope of fortunes.

I know nothing of either, but wouldn't a Corgi sell off to Oxford benefit everyone?!

Anyway, I should share some of my current collection but seeing as half of it is went to Scotland with my mum and the other half went into the attic, that won't happen anytime soon. My faves are, and probably always will be, my Schabak/Gama Opel Senator B and Audi V8, and a Lion Toys(?) branded Vauxhall Astramax.

I sold a ton of it too. Reasonably regrettable.
