thats a turbo1 the turbo2 is white pearl

I concur. But I'm told Renault did make red ones.

Seems that they made nice models diring the 00s. I had a few from the early 1990s such as a Honda NSX and Porsche 911 and they were good then compared to the other 'big two'. The latest example I had was a Manta which, not knowing its value, sold it for £15 about 3 years ago. It was quite a nice model but not quite high end. The Corrado is better but poor fitting doors let it down. However the paint finish and in particular the front lights and grille are excellently captured. I will look out for more stuff from them in future.

There likely is no future. Apparently they abandoned the 1/18 diecast sector. it looks like their link to production in China broke up somehow.

The last 1/18 they launched was the Opel Commodore and that was made from composites instead of diecast metal, so it could be produced in Poland.

They did not explore this further since.

Some of their tooling has been used by other companies, e.g. Jadi, but for quite a while now these are dormant as well.

No 1/18 scale models were on their stand at the Nürnberg fair this year.

They made some interesting Anglo chod in the past, a Frogeye Healey, a Stag and a TR6 I think.

I've got a Jadi Lotus Elise which I believe is simply a Revell but when I Googled it, Paragon models came up. Wonder if they will produce some Ex-Revell in future? As you have shown, they had some cracking releases over the years and the quality was good for the money. We need another decent midrange product as well as Solido. The Sunstar stuff I have is highly variable. The Mk3 Escort has a terrible cast and the MK2 was so crap I flogged it. They go for strong money too because Ford.

With Sunstar, it's either feast or famine. Their Platinum Series yanks are simply superb. So is some of their stuff in 'lesser' series.

Then all of a sudden they turn out complete rubbish. There is no middle ground.

Norev provides excellent value for money, but sadly they have concentrated on big industry jobs for quite a while now.

Just serving a small number of big customers in lieu of a wide small customers base can badly backfire. This is essentially what

killed the US plastic kit industry in the 70s, which has not really recovered to this day.

With the OTTO folks now having been appointed by Dickie to manage the Solido brand, we could have golden times ahead.

In any case, I don't think there is a chance of not spending some loot I ran into on some 1/18 diecasts for as long as I live.

My bucket list outstrips my financial capabilities by not a narrow margin.

Plastic kits is a completely different story. Apart from the usual array of supercars nobody* cares* about, there have been remarkably

few true new releases for the past 40 years. Most 'new' kits you see are reissues of very old kits, many of them having been reissued

in one form or another several times.

I have seen the Revell London Taxi (FX4) and it looks very much like the old Imai tooling

Posted

Imai did some reasonable stuff in 1/24 that could be motorised, but not much of it came to the UK. I had the FX4 and the VW Beetle in both saloon and cabrio forms

There's still some current(ish) Revell stuff. Corrados are still available and Healey Sprite was until very recently but nothing new for them for quite some time.

The Otto / Solido stuff is excellent but due to the monsterous cock up with distribution and pricing for the UK it's pretty scarce here. See also Norev very soon.

The Welly 1/18s are very good in general for the price and the Whitebox stuff, whilst a limited range is worth a look.

There is a general lack of 1/18ranges at the moment though. There's a huge Welly range but so little of it ever gets to Europe and most other ranges tend to have 'premium' pricing. There's a new range by Minichamps, 'Maxichamps' which use older Minichamps castings and are slightly cheaper. Only slightly though.

Is Whitebox doing 1/18 now?

I borrowed some money from my dad last year which is due to be paid off in April so I will be watching wjat is available with interest. Problem with 1/18s is the postage though!

I have just ordered the cute Kaiser Henry J from SunStar and will report how good or bad that is when I get it.

Its the cheapest SunStar 1:18, so maybe this tells you how popular this model is.

Yes indeed. Very popular they have been too. So far Aston DB4, Aston DB2, BMW 328, Lotus Elan. Look like they are Road Signature castings. They've also announced but not yet delivered a load of 1:14 scale modern stuff - Ferrari 458, La Ferrari, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, Audi R8 etc which has a SRP of £32.99 which should make them a very popular thing indeed.

Speaking of Road Signature, they appear to have been consumed by Lucky Step models and have gained a 300% price rise. Bye to them then...

Who does a mk2 mondeo in model form, I've a couple of mk1's in both matchbox and majorette but no mk2's. Preferably in red!

Pretty sure Minichamps did one.

Minichamps. Saloon and estate versions. Both in the regular Minichamps range and in Ford dealer packaged boxes.

Great find,

love the early Redline Hot Wheels.

Worth a few ££'s those :-D

Too right! eBay resulted in £18 for the Camaro and £22 for the Mustang. Think I'll keep the eyes peeled for them in the future then! Why are they so valuable? Prices of 1970's matchbox are on their arse!

Great result for you there...Hot Wheels were always comparatively dear and difficult to find in the 60s here - few dealers stocked them to begin with and once you got them home they fell apart pretty quickly.   The metallic paint finishes were none too durable either.

I suppose because the brand is still fairly true to its roots today it has a reflected glory on the original product, too.

I am guessing the above BTW, and have also been collecting any that I see.   Unfortunately I cannot now bear to sell them....

Even the more recent 1970's efforts seem to command a premium. An expensive hobby then if you are collecting them on eBay then.

What is the discount on the Mondeo Estate Dave? I keep saying I'm tempted, I might just go for it if there's a discount! ;)

Schuco did a Mk1 in 1/43, but you'll probably have to hunt for it.  Estate?  You'd need to build it yourself.  The Chinese versions are available in 1/18, I'm led to believe...
