Shite in Miniature II

I have this 3 door and I have seen white Whizzwheels 3 doors. I think I have seen a 5 door but it was a stupid amount of money around £70.

If you read the badge on the wing, it is a 343 badermatic! It's a little corker

Talking of one off's... I have taken on the job of making some trophies for the Dutton Owners Club. Starting from nothing but photo's and of course the one parked in the drive (which helps).

The carved clay master is looking a bit rough but plan is to make a resin cast of it, clean it up and then recast in clear resin for the trophy, might even plate one if I can get my hands on the tech.

This is the current clay master fitted with a set of 1/43rd minilites from ebay.

And this is the real thing.

Once I have the complete resin cast I'll need to lower the profile of the windscreen, adjust the rear wheel arches, smooth the body out and cast the wheels separately to get the detail. The back bumper is obviously missing from the real one but you get the general idea.

I’ve noticed a few new 1:24 French car kits recently. Are they reissues or new tooling?

I bet that Mehari kit is a bit light! Are there even 124 pieces on the real thing?....

I’ve noticed a few new 1:24 French car kits recently. Are they reissues or new tooling?

I bet that Mehari kit is a bit light! Are there even 124 pieces on the real thing?....

These two are new toolings. The H van is completely new, the Mehari does include the oily bits from the old 2CV tooling.

Let's think inside the box...

There is air. A lot of air:

A small body:

Glass:

This is directly lifted from the 2CV kit, albeit not plated here:

Basically, only the wipers, the gearshift and the door handles are needed from above sprue.

Then there are two more complete sprues directly lifted from the 2CV kit.

A complete interior, bumpers and front disc brakes (which you could pimp your Mehari with):

And the oily bits:

Then there are the following two newly tooled sprues:

Note the open cast grille. However, this is slightly offset by having to use the 2CV's front seats, which are in fact "Charleston" seats.

To make them halfways correct, one will have to remove the pleating, either by sanding it flat, or filling it in with putty.

Also note the Mehari two spoke steering wheel. I will definitely use the incorrect single spoke 2CV item instead, because I can.

There is a decal sheet:

Sadly only with those newfangled French numberplates. I should have more period correct ones somewhere.

Real men don't read this:

Note how they expect you to cut and paste the 2CV exhaust:

A similar thing with the gear shift lever:

015.jpg

It's probably better to replace it with some bent wire right away and just use the knob.

016.jpg

Entirely btw, the taillights and front indicators of the Mehari were nicked from the H-Van.

The back of the box shows three of the available paint schemes:

Speaking of American Ice Cream Trucks as we weren't.... eBay has just spewed this at me for an embarrassingly small number of quid.

Bonus Frinton-On-Sea '30s Archishite. Actually there's nothing shite about it.

As a complete aside, my sis-in-law's father Harry passed away this year, he had a comprehensive collection of early Matchbox cars, which sadly had to be sold off due to some shamelessly shabby will advice. The reason he had all these was because he was a die maker for Lesney's and they were all the cars he'd worked on.

Random fact, my Dolomite 1850HL lived in Frinton-On-Sea for a while, or it was at least serviced there, before moving back to it's original home of London.

Another fun fact is that there is a scale model of my very car knocking about somewhere, I've seen a picture of it. It's a modified Vanguards Sprint and features my car's reg no. and infamous tide mark of doom front valance!
