Not intending to keep any of this lot

That’s good news because it becomes a slippery slope quite quickly

Terry has just been to the auctions and bringing back a selection of high mileage ex fleeters for Arfur’s forecourt!

Still a way to go yet, but it’s getting there. And it doesn’t flex at all with the cars on! Front end sits quite high at the moment as the coupling to the tractor isn’t fitted, it’s just balancing on a lump of plastic.

This is superb, Dan. There was a fella on ebay who built less complex custom recovery trucks and he also customised single cars to sit on the transporter. His models always sold for solid £££ - he tended to produce largely retro Ford stuff to reflect the interest in them. I've had a quick look but can't find any of his items (or remember his seller id) currently.

Just a thought - there's money to be made if you wanted a basic income from simpler custom jobs.

Pop a 9V battery across the terminals - does the siren and light still work? I might have that one off you even though I’ve got a couple. You can get repro bumpers

The Datsun 260Z looks to be a repaint but likely the most valuable after the red Sierra Cosworth edited due to twatness

The Sierras were in a set together and would sell better separately

The Porsches were in a night set and have (or had) light circuits

The loose spares like chassis motors axles wheels are handy to me

The red loose spoiler fits the red Brabham BT44 in top left

The red cage is from a diecast ambulance I’m sure?

Escort have a motor?  The chassis is worth more than the body because of the wheelbase - for kit builds like Airfix Morris Marina etc nutters

Oh my, so it must

Showing my age now

That means of course that it is less valuable/more valuable compared to the first series bright blue mid-70s one I had as a boy

I've been looking so long’

It is tempting to give it a try.
My problem though is wondering why anyone would want anything I’ve made. I’m not that good. I think I’d feel embarrassed tbh.

Itd be good though, I really enjoy just sitting building stuff like that. Weirdly as I’m not exactly blessed with a great deal of patience normally😆

Normally the markers stain the plastic, got lucky here I think.

Nice move. I haven't used oven cleaner on models, mainly just ovens, but how does it react with their paintwork?

I'm dead impressed by some of the customs on ebay, They can really show how good the Matchbox superfast castings were. It was the RS2000 a bloke had done literally made me go wow. Trouble is with collecting for me is that my scope is so limited now to avoid collection run away, that I cannot get these. I have one to make all ready to go but cannot find the transfers for it yet., so it's in the shed with all the other 'projects' 😀

I only use it on plastics, I think it's actually caustic soda solution anyway. It gets chrome off plastic bumpers etc without effecting the material itself, works on overpainted window units etc too.

I seem to recall one of the YouTube restorers used to strip castings in caustic solution then put the plastic bits in once it had cooled down

The Chinese are getting very good at their imitation goods

The original is on the left - or is it the right?

This is the real tell though, almost double the weight for the real deal, OK it's a metal base premium, but I think that's what I find slightly lets down brands like Realtoy - they actually look pretty good but feel like they'd fly away in a stiff breeze

It’d be interesting to try stripping down one of the Chinese copies like the Charger, then adding the good quality ‘original’ parts from the Hot Wheels onto it. Stuff like the wheels in particular. See what it comes up like then and with some extra detail painted.

oh my word

I've just realised what weighing scales are really for...

I think the one in the bathroom (which never gets used) could have a new lease of life!

Some of you might remember a few years back I got a really battered Spot-On Rover 3 litre (P5). My first Spot-On actually!
It was originally that green-ish colour but someone had had a go doing it in black, most of which had fallen off with the original paint. Well I recently re-found it while emptying some boxes.

Seems I’d actually bought some replacement bumpers for it already as they were with it.

IMG_7568.jpeg.f7dd0cde14fd7c9194baf7c8452cf1d6.jpeg

Definitely a worthy restoration candidate I think as the paints had it but it’s a good undamaged shell.

The glazing, while not terrible, isn’t good enough really so I’ve got a new one coming.

Question is though, what colour(s)!? I’ll probably not go for that original green colour.

How about a claret or if they captured the shape rather well a light metallic shade maybe?

Street Machine's one looked rather good in blue

Oh my! Doesn’t it just!

Turbine wheels might be a bit hard to find though. I needed some a while back for a Ford pickup but couldn’t find any. Colour definitely looks good though.

Don't forget that coupe has a lower roof  & thinner window frames.

Also, Street Machine's car was the P5B, with the V8 and extra lamps.

I don’t think I’ll be rebuilding the old Spot-On as the Street Machines car. It’d take a fair bit to change the old 3 litre saloon into a P5B Coupe. And I’m not sure I’d feel right cutting that old one about tbh. The shell is too nice to do that to.
It was more colour inspiration really.

Did Spot-On offer it in many colours?

I’d just go with gleaming Ebony Black and keep it stock and tidy as per the Downing Street fleet. Whatever you think of Wilson, Heath, Callahan or Thatcher; they did look very smart out and about, having more than enough prestige to ferry about the PM of the time?

Ebony Black – a non-standard colour not available to ‘civilians’ – with a white coachline. They were identified as right-hand-drive, export-specification cars by the factory. ~500 were produced, finished at Hoopers, delivered to Parliament, Embassies and War Department etc

Or you could just paint it pink and apply Only Fans logos to the flanks.

That’s how things should be. Using a British icon of a car from a respected marque and flying the flag of your own. Instead of building on that the people often being ferried around in these cars fucked everything up, lined their own pockets and flogged everything off. Now we have nothing. We have the indignity of having to use German crap!😄

Nah, I’ve got no interest whatsoever in remembering politicians by the cars they didn’t deserve! I’ll do a civvy one.

That's so accurate I'm thinking I might adopt it as a new signature!
