But a quick check of the Blytheswood Hospice Shop revealed an unexpected cornucopia of fine* collector-grade* diecast:

What, and I chose my words quite carefully here, the fuck is that?

Alas, it's a Del Prado steam-powered fire tender of some antiquity. From this range. Move along now, nothing to see here.

Mustard mitt from DC's pic I had it down as some bizarre 70s matchbox fantasy forward-control truck with a vast chrome engine sticking out the back. The reality is somewhat more mundane.

That's some sort of old fire engine from the Del Prado Fire Engines of the World series, from around 5 years ago

Edit - beaten to it by @RoadworkUK

Imagine being stuck in a burning down building waiting for that thing to turn up!

A day off work put me in the fortunate position of being among the first to see a post on Facebook from a gentleman selling various old Matchbox bits for £not a lot. I'm not usually a collector of the carry cases, but I liked the 70s design of this one

Ive tried to keep it looking ‘toy’ like rather than a model. Shiny finish enamel paints help there but should also be a bit harder wearing. Not that it’ll get played with of course!
The windscreen is worse than I thought unfortunately. The crack is quite obvious and I can’t really do much for that, but it’s also very very scuffed up, probably from years of use in someone’s sand pit. I tried polishing it up but it wasn’t really having any effect. Likewise the rear body and wheels, being plastic, are quite rough now just from age and damage over the years. I suppose it’s character!
Thing is, it’s 50 odd years old now and considering the way it started I’m pretty happy with it.

Let's look at some I've completed this week...

Dinky Princess in Tara Green is for the TV set: it's the Terry And June car (shame about the damaged windscreen though).  Copcar is Corgi's Sheriff Oldsmobile, for my ever-expanding semi-fictional North Carolina fleet.  Dinky Anglia has been with me from new, and has spent most of the intervening time white, representing my real one from 1979.  I've now done a Vanguards version, so this has had a full strip and spray.  Not before time!

Today there has been some drilling, so that stripping can commence tomorrow (probably)...

100_2406.JPG.e88fa875c71dda25cd2e82d3c10876f0.JPG

That's just a teaser, you'll see them again bit by bit as they progress.  I've also been spraying some of the shells that have been waiting patiently...

You'll be seeing these again as they head for the finish line.

That's quite enough for today, I'm going to sit here now until my tea's ready!

More great work from Eddy here, I love to see your work in progress.

Also anyone else looking at the ready to strip tub and trying to work out what all the models are and which ones I sent!

Loads on the bench at the moment. I’m having one of my stages of liking to jump from one project to another at the moment!😄

This has been ongoing for a while now. Mostly because I can’t decide exactly what I’m going to do with it and, until very recently, couldn’t decide on a colour.
AEC Mustang. Not one of AEC’s most well known trucks but an interesting one either way. ‘Chinese six’ wheel arrangement (4 steer wheels & 2 drive) which in this part of the world seems to have gone completely out of favour.

Dinky cab, heavily modified to take accurate sized wheels. IXO chassis, also heavily modified. Corgi 1:50 tanker body. Wheels from 3 different donor models!
That Dinky cab of the AEC Park Royal built cab is absolutely brilliant btw. Excellent detail and really nicely done. It’s only downside imho are the grossly under scale wheels it comes with.

IMG_7451.jpeg.7ebee79a6b08b3dc5b2ad3cd3fe5740b.jpeg

Btw, that little red stain on the tanker was from me opening a tin of paint to find a skin on the paint then deciding it was best to stab it with a screwdriver!! Not my best idea admittedly as paint shot out everywhere.

I knocked this up too from a spare trailer I had laying around. Stripped the plastic body off and it left a really nice chassis with outriggers ideal for building it into a log trailer.
The white beams and poles for holding the logs are all made from plastic sections, with the poles all bent slightly to look well used. Log loading crane is a leftover from another project.

IMG_7440.jpeg.6b10fa3ff87ed2057f03d1f78d6f5e5d.jpeg

And hitched up to a (very!) suitable tractor unit.

And the F88 needs a tag axle and a scruffy brushed repaint in blue and red for that proper Bob Carmichael look.

Sadly not quite as exciting as it first appears - and more visible in one of the other pics...

I might have known you’d have guessed what sort of look I was going for!😄

I’ll most likely do something different from the famous F88 though. Although I’ve actually changed the wheels over from the standard ones in my pic to some that look very close to Bob’s rig.
I need to find something I can use for convincing logs to load it with now too.

Not that I know of.

The Castle Court branch of The Entertainer had some way back at the start of the year, but I haven't seen any about since then.

IMG_20250117_1319042.thumb.jpg.46a79314c4b20fd4e6b6c54b9abe2ca3.jpg

I understand some folks found that Sainsbury's stocked them last year, but tragically none of the branches near me seemed to bother their arse.

A local-ish independent Toytown store still has some on the pegs, but they're all older items from 2022-24 and mostly supercars and big modern 4x4 trucks which don't really interest me.

Sad to say, I've had to start looking online...
