Weird diecast day today. Had quite a lot of time to myself around Oxford area to go hunting for diecasts - there were no Smyths within a reasonable distance but I hit up several Entertainers, various supermarkets, B&M and Toys R Us (where I got accused of shoplifting), as well as a few charity shops.

Bought very little for myself, but fulfilled a few requests via WhatsApp at least!

These two Corvettes came from a charity shop, the Matchbox is a lot better than the one I have, and I didn't have the Corgi

A tatty job lot arrived, wasn't especially after this Porsche but it's interesting to see how terrible they made what used to be a nice casting, by fitting these wheels

The last box is definitely the best though, this Polistil Jaguar has somehow survived unscathed other than losing a tail light. It also looks just like the Daimler that my friend's dad owned forever, same colour scheme too

What on earth made them think you were shoplifting? Having said that they must think everyone is a tea leaf with all those security tags put on their ridiculously overpriced Hot Wheels!

That Polistil Jaguar is a belter. I had a Police one, really nice detail and a great era for that maker, 1975-80. Their subject choices were always interesting for that scale. The only reason I don't have it any more is because I swapped it for a Stahlberg Saab 900 (good deal for me IMO!)

Gran Fury, did someone say?

We can do that :)

I've been finishing up a few that were loitering on my bench, still got a few to go though!

100_2259.JPG.5b7f4af2326c61d8477ca5f2d4a70cbf.JPG

Green Imp is the Dinky.  I almost didn't paint it but it needed a new bonnet and when I'd painted that, the rest of the car looked shabby.  But who did it better/worse?  White is Corgi, red is Vanguards.

Dinky is probably the daintiest, but the Corgi has the opening rear window that was one of the Imp's distinguishing features.  Dinky is the one I've just done.

In every cop/spy show in the 70s, if there was a scene "in France" there would be a white 504.  This one came from @FakeConcern and was very poorly Humbrolled, including the windows!

Blue Herald is waiting patiently; red one came to me in all-over red Humbrol.  I don't know if I'll do the blue one.  Probably, is the best I can offer!  The green Imp was tidier apart from the missing bonnet, so I think it's only a matter of time.

100_2282.JPG.1c9a2e4d20f23cd2175ab7bbdde04e45.JPG

And finally for tonight, a Corgi 1/64 ERF cab, representing "my" wagon when I was delivering timber to building sites.

I walked in with a carrier bag containing Hot Wheels from Entertainer, had a look through the various cars they had, didn't find anything I wanted so went to walk out - and they guy jumped in front of me and said "are you going to pay for those?" To which I replied "what, again?" He seemed a bit a bit confused by this and said it's because they sell Hot Wheels, so I said that's exactly why I was in there! He wanted to see the Entertainer receipt after I said that's where I'd bought them, said "OK I apologise" (which isn't an apology) and let me on my way.

Thank you young man; although I should point out, the car is beige.  Pale, yes, but definitely beige.  I got the paint in Wilko's, those were the days!

Even better! I might have to do one similar myself, the Dinky rendition of the car is really quite fine.

Thought I had a Polistil Escort four door but obviously not. The little one is still strangely proportioned but rather more pleasing nonetheless

Years ago one of uncles went to America and brought back something similar but it wasn’t your standard 1-75 model it was some sort of GMC pick up. Wasn’t available in U.K. Long gone now unfortunately, went when I had my eldest and my finances were about as bright as a Ukrainian Travel Agent.

Also in red in dealership promo packaging. I'm guessing from the logo that this came in all four colours when the car was introduced in 1998.

I found out a thing. This

PXL_20250519_114421147.jpg.93be1cca66b886bb48da47f941406c0d.jpg

Is a Matchbox body, apparently the moulds went to Eheim for their use in the 60s, then Eheim were taken over by Brawa who carried on making them, with a white roof

Lesney Volkswagen Microvan 34a

Looking into it further, mine's a Lesney made body converted by Eheim, when they bought the mould after it was discontinued, they smoothed the VW badge out and put a DB sticker on instead

image.jpeg.b2e462f359d1552e2b86d0f9f0297d74.jpeg

I also think I got it at a good price, having looked at some others for sale!

Had a stroke of luck over lunchtime - our local Home Bargains (which is moving from its town centre location to a new out-of-town superstore in a matter of weeks) has unexpectedly restocked with Hot Wheels H-Case items.

IMG_20250523_1337522.jpg.1b1f34ce4ab526add008a233d6722175.jpg

Pulled these two out to come home with me:

Poor old Poundland's still stuck in 2024 and earlier - they've restocked the Matchbox pegs with the mix containing the green Mk1 Golf.

Nothing new in Sainsbury's, and Poundstretcher's still just trying to flog the dregs of its old Mattel stock.

Might nip into Tesco in the morning, and see if they've any of the red Lancia Delta in yet.

I've spent most of the afternoon watching and bidding on an auction. Had  a bit of success and won four lots. Not the boxes of  tat I have been getting locally but some stuff for my collections and for my future toy fair selling.

For those of you that remember my post on this parking lot/service station that was handed down to me 30 years ago,  it’s by a company called “blue box”. I found another on eBay, with the parts that are missing from mine.

So the tools came out.

IMG_5522.jpeg.7d30226c6ca05d841dd0bcef9aeb2042.jpeg

the good bits from the eBay one were added to my old one.

IMG_5523.jpeg.8196b154949b516e27979c73a3c7cc39.jpeg

some drilling was required as I think my father fitted it to this base.

IMG_5525.jpeg.81cd3395374f2e244fe65f6a14838be3.jpeg

End result is 99% complete. Just need to make new sponges for the car wash.

the best thing about this? Passing it down to my son, who will also enjoy it for many years. What’s not to like? 😎

Nope, sadly not - I fancy I saw the white racing Alfa from that series hanging on the upper pegs in Tescotainer a few weeks back (when my furtive rummaging was curtailed by another middle-aged man who clearly had no business whatsoever guddling around children's toys), but seems they're all gone now.

Four-fifths of the Silhouette Car Culture series were in evidence today, though.
