Maisto/MC aren't bad little things, some are definitely extremely similar to other manufacturer's castings

Good find with the patient. Probably harder to find than a TV Wagon with the cameraman.

This is a curious one, pewter(?) 1:87 Bburago Porsche, intended as a keyring. I'll have a crack at polishing it up with a tube of Anusol later

I wouldn't use anything abrasive on that. It s probably a bit of thin chrome plate. I would try with some acetone and or vinegar on the base first.

I've been practicing my poker face, for when I find things like a pink Rolls Royce redline. Who cares if it only has three wheels?

That's the find of the bunch. As mentioned by @junkyarddog it is a rare colour. Nick one of the wheels of teh Firebird as it is worth ten times what that's worth. It's on par with a non-sunroof VW Bug.

I don't think it's plated as I've had mine for nearly 30 years and it's like new despite being used for most of that time. Unless the plating is very hard.

Also, nobody noticed Rich's (Freudian? 😂) slip on the name of the product he was going to use to polish it up! I know what he meant though.

All thanks to @Split_Pin for spotting this silver Forester and picking it up for me - I still haven't seen any of the Fast Wagons set on sale locally.

It's very nice to have a mini-replica of my much-missed XT!

20180516_213026.thumb.jpg.2f9880e481c86d41bbb75d74bd231fa3.jpg

And speaking of mini-replicas... this also arrived.

IMG_20250519_1804152.jpg.db4d5b5cd340e855fb5cf9ee841bf456.jpg

A very very smol Toyota Yaris.

IMG_20250519_1804212.jpg.9491e1ed9ca4ea700001d4a5d0664431.jpg

Back last month when MrsDC was thinking about getting rid of her Yaris, I said I'd find something for her to remember it by.

It's not the correct Twilight Blue as hers, but I was surprised to even be able to find any sort of rhd 5-dr Mk1 facelift model. This one's made by BMC (but not that BMC, I wouldn't have thought) and is a tiddly 1/64 scale. It was also available in black, rose gold, and some sort of dreadful custom yellow and blue paint scheme. But she chose the white version, to allow the detail to stand out more.

It came with a whole bunch of extra bits, so can have the front and rear swapped round to resemble a pre-facelift car or a T-Sport version (there's a tiny boot spoiler too), and indeed different wheels also. The boot opens as well. It really is a lovely little thing (if not exactly cheap)!

Happily, she's now decided that her 1:1 Yaris deserves to be kept and shown a bit of love in its autumnal years, in recognition of its long-term faithfulness and dependability, and she's now bought it a companion car (see my fleet thread for more details), in a similar manner to the way horsey people quite often buy a horse for their horse, to keep it company...

I’m now free enough to do some models again now the shed build is done. Thank fook as it was starting to do my head in!

Two projects I’d started a while back are now in paint.
Firstly the AEC Regent, now in its white. I’m just painting some of the smaller parts that need fitting now before the stripes can be masked up and sprayed.

IMG_7025.jpeg.3f358fd6a26d4bed20a9f2920435ced1.jpeg

An IXO Granada mk2 estate, now in Nevada beige and will represent a more basic model.
The paint I used for this wasn’t great. Came out very splattery so it’ll need a wet flat and some polish to get rid of the orange peel.

IMG_7027.jpeg.bf89e7f5301c00a496ee203e6b555311.jpeg

First start to finish project though,

An IXO based partwork Renault 17. Starts like this, but I’m not really bothered by race cars so much so it’ll become a road car.

IMG_7031.jpeg.6de533971ab8634d424bbc56826fe402.jpeg

Stripped it down and gave it a clean up, then filed down the flared arches a bit to get rid of the wide appearance. Then primer. It’s also received some more suitable wheels from a donor Renault 12.

IMG_7043.jpeg.2c43b07723e4943ee8aad26105b41380.jpeg

Ive stripped this Dinky AEC cab too ready for another truck project.

IMG_7034.jpeg.5c2fae8e9649b1fa065b26c99b876bae.jpeg

IMG_7038.jpeg.f879d65ea6edaed61563622f85d97344.jpeg

Another nice Dinky casting. Needs a bit of casting flash filing off but it’s a nice cab otherwise. I will need to enlarge the wheel arches as Dinky cast them too small for their toy wheels. This style cab should have the arch protruding out behind the cab slightly and that little kink in the front panel seem shouldn’t be there.
Eventually it’ll be fitted to a donor IXO/Altaya chassis.

Its great doing a bit of modelling again though!

Obviously, I couldn't wait to get the Forester opened and while I was at it also depackaged those National Icons Silverlines picked up during Saturday's travels:

The Skyline really is a tasty-looking thing in that orange. I have the all-black Fast & Furious release, but this is just gorgeous.

IMG_20250520_1051152.jpg.eb3ceb68923e9d47c90fb9e7025a016f.jpg

I also have a racing version of the Fiat 500D Modificado from last year's Hot Wheels mainline range, but this release is so nicely done with understated detailing just to the lights and chrome trim.

I also popped the blisters on the Matchbox from Morrisons:

IMG_20250520_1052012.jpg.6ad3ea89fda198ba4538dfe9cf26f649.jpg

C10 pickup is one I looked for in vain last year when it came out in pale blue, but I never did find one. This year's issue in gold is unusual, but looks great.

IMG_20250520_1052112.jpg.941e57c3e85d76819ab6cd84de01de1e.jpg

BMW M2 isn't the kind of car I'd gravitate towards in real life, but this miniature rendering is very crisp and the subtly metallic red paint and contrasting roof really sets it off. I think it'll look good on the playsets, once I finally dig those out again to get some photos taken.

That new 230 SL can not make its mind up what it is. It has US Spec marker lights on the wings. Marker lights were not put on Pagoda SL until the 250 model. Also the car has Euro spec headlamps. And what would it cost to put a silver tampo on the windscreen to give the effect of a frame.

Here's a 1965 US Spec 230 SL

I think those retro ones are a new casting, apparently in the humid climate of Malaysia etc the moulds degrade over time ( I'm sure they could be stored better but hey).

Ta!👍

Certainly beats building sheds and clearing crap up!

Ive had a great day at it today. Started this too.

I actually didn’t know this model of truck existed until I found a photo by chance when looking for something else.
It’s an AEC Mustang, which was a ‘Chinese six’ wheel arrangement - 4 front steer wheels & one rear drive axle. This is where the Dinky AEC cab comes in as the Dinky casting is of the Park Royal cab design used on various AEC’s including the Mustang.

The donor is an old IXO Mercedes LP with the right chassis style. Cab removed, rear body removed. Then plonk the Dinky cab on to see what’s what.

IMG_7045.jpeg.d7c48f21a5ecfb3863d34b73ed7ceb14.jpeg

IMG_7046.jpeg.2fd267a6a6fc42ea2e94f189095b6d36.jpeg

I knew it would need modifications but it needs the front end cutting down and the cab wheel arch area correcting as Dinky’s effort there fitted under scale wheels for toy use.

So some butchery later, see’s the cab sit down onto the chassis much better, and the wheel arches much more realistic in appearance & position.

IMG_7048.jpeg.641e0827363df1d36d776cc9a1451d53.jpeg

IMG_7051.jpeg.2d6204689c872915f4025330d376e9b4.jpeg

I’ve also filed off the panel seem line on the lower front corners as this is complete fiction! Must be something Dinky came up with to disguise the undersize wheel arches. Filed off some casting flash from the gutters above the cab doors too.

IMG_7052.jpeg.8803fcd8a97963ad06ac5a4ddb8516a3.jpeg

Loads to do still, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I got done on it this afternoon between putting paint on other things…

…Paint being etch primer onto the Triang Jumbo FFK truck after repairing the bent windscreen pillar. Then body colour onto the 17, something suitably 70’s I reckon!

That’s why I did it orange!
The Matchbox one was one I remember really well as a kid, so if it’s good for Matchbox then it’s good for me too.

I very nearly did it metallic green but it just wouldn’t have the impact of the orange.
