it would be good to find a 1:36 scale example this year. Did Corgi ever package it as Magnum PI as its exactly the same car?

Slightly soggy postman just dropped a parcel off. Still wearing shorts though so I don't feel too sorry for him.

I sometimes see these newer Superfast for sale in the included cardboard box, but spotted these still carded

Are those very recent? Because if they are, the wheels are excellent.

They seem recent at 2005 - but that's 19 years ago somehow!

I'm surprised there isn't an early 2000s re-release version though like they did with all the other 1/36 film/TV cars like the Starsky Torino and Professionals Capri. It seems that this is all that's available.

I guess a lot is down to licensing, also depends on if there’s much call for the series at that time, maybe in the early 00’s Magnum wasn’t a popular re-run. Could be the mould was fucked as well.

Here’s a few recent arrivals for my 1:43 collection. All from sellers in Europe since they seem so scarce over here!

First, and my favourite, Chevy Suburban.
This one is an absolute swine to get hold of! Seems to be one of the rarer ones in the partwork. Absolutely fantastic looker though, great detail and printing for badges etc too. Really looks like the real Suburban too.

Another Bimbo van! This time a yank, Grumman box truck.
Very plain basic vans but definitely captures the look of the real ones.

Bought this one on a whim really but glad I did as it looks brilliant!
Nissan Patrol. Again, great detail on it (there’s even little gauges on the dash!) and looks just like the swb Patrol. I’ll probably repaint this one into a more standard civilian colour tbh, Spanish fire brigade doesn’t really mean much to me!

This one’s really hard to get hold of too.

VAM (AMC of Mexico) Gremlin.
Im a massive fan of the real Gremlin, I love the styling for some weird reason! So I had to track one down. This was the only one I could find - from Spain!
The real ones were made in Mexico by VAM under licence from AMC but didn’t start production until 74. Oddly the 74 cars had a front clip different to their AMC cousins which was actually from the AMC Hornet. They made them later than the USA version too but the early 80’s cars had rear side windows much bigger and doing away with that massive rear pillar in the process, which ruins the look of the car imho!

IMG_3203.thumb.jpeg.736378625476a4d7685f5a730c322602.jpeg

IMG_3204.thumb.jpeg.ae61ba9c40053bf9fccacde2b261b7ad.jpeg

IMG_3206.thumb.jpeg.0164b6e33e4332e29bcf79e2b1328b05.jpeg

Im not a huge fan of the colour on this one. Maybe if it was metallic then yes! So maybe a future repaint candidate. I’d love to put the AMC style side stripes on it.

Mattel signed up to an exclusive licencing agreement with Ferrari in 1998, which ended on 1st January 2015. The company that owns Maisto and Burago signed an exclusive deal. This was annoying back in 1998 when makers like Minichamps and Onyx/Quartzo had to stop producing their excellent models, especially the Vitesse La Storia collection. This was to be a collection of one F1 car from every year from 1950 to the present. It ended after only 14 models were released. And then in 2015 it was annoying because teh Hot Wheels La Storia collection ended before they had completed the entire F1 set from 1950 after about 30 models had been issued. This is why I sold off my entire Ferrari collection as it was just frustrating when these licencing deals wreck collections in production.

However the agreements do not cover Italy, so many of the Italian collector market makers like Brumm and BBR have always produced Ferrari models.

The last Corgi Ferrari that was made was the Goldeneye F355 in 1/43rd. This was in 1995.

I used to like the Matchbox Ferraris, one of my favourites as a kid was the MB75 Testarossa. Shame they don’t widen the license agreement, think Rolls Royce did something similar.

Got some colour on the E30 cab using one of my boot sale airbrushes, using some touch up paint in the correct Kashmirbeige.

One bit needs flatting off and re-doing as I can see a line on the edge of the bonnet where I didn't flat the primer back enough, but I think I can just go over it then lacquer the whole thing

I thought Fresh Cherries were originally 1:87 but range later replaced by 1:64

Yes, I thought so too - only had two of them pass through my hands, but that seems about right:

20190111_141251.jpg

20190111_141257.jpg

20190111_141305.jpg

A larger scale 1982 Dodge Aries, picked up at the market five years ago (and I had to check that several times because it seemed wrong, but yes indeed - January 2019 is five years ago now) - I'd guessed it as around 1/65 or thereabouts. Base suggests 2007 design.

Bizarre choice of subject matter, since these were Chrysler's absolute grey-porridge cars - though that didn't stop Hot Wheels producing an even more unlikely Aries wagon in-period, as part of their mainline range.

And then there was this smaller-scale Mercury Bobcat, a badge-engineered Ford Pinto, found on the stalls back in June 2019:

20190607_134928.jpg.37566092b9cfc6b5e136ab116923324c.jpg

Great colour, but lamentably lacking a wheel somehow.

20190607_134936.thumb.jpg.13904d7f4960e23e3f11f231da2ae79a.jpg

I'd guess-scaled this at 1/85, based on how it appeared next to a HO scale Mk2 Transit by Herpa.

20190607_135011.thumb.jpg.ac79bcc5d48a618d5c4ad2214d4729d0.jpg

But I'll not argue with 1/87 and 1/64!

I seem to recall TK Maxx having a load of the Fresh Cherries range in stock roundabout 2008 or so - I was intrigued when I saw them on the pegs, especially their rendering of the Dodge Omni (the Talbot Horizon's transatlantic second cousin), but I wasn't really buying diecast around that time, so I just left them. Never saw them again.

As I remember, they were priced about the £2.99 or £3.99 mark, so not really dear but not amazingly cheap either. They were probably about the same price as Oxford Diecast's railway scale models at the time.

Nice little range, though - well worth seeking out.

They had the Rover P6 on a trailer in there last week, which I took a shine to, but the queues were nuts so I just left it. They were all gone by the time I returned, though.

I've popped it from the blister pack now; they're really quite a nice duo. Pics later.

Pics quite a bit later...

Eh, you've probably seen this one before, but it's new to me, so here y' go anyway.

IMG_20240103_1127582.thumb.jpg.72c1e8d6dc5cf2e0f8b5ceda7869dc12.jpg

Seems to be a 1972 Chevrolet C truck fitted with a rear ramp body, carrying a 1961 Chevrolet Impala coupe.

IMG_20240103_1128102.thumb.jpg.4b80c865af577c373a419f5d27393bcf.jpg

Tampo detail on the all-metal grille isn't bad, given the scale.

IMG_20240103_1128292.thumb.jpg.3aede96e8a596238f85acd2c474da4cc.jpg

As Premium Hot Wheels, the bases on both are metal and they're fitted with rubberised tyres.

The deeply dished rims on the Impala look pretty good.

IMG_20240103_1128222.thumb.jpg.f0d6b3d260a647bed2d802d2b3031a9e.jpg

I've no idea if this is meant to be any specific racer's colour decoration, but it looks the part. I know Mattel seem to be pretty free and easy in their general approach to racing decor, so I try not to get too hung up on it. But given the prices of their premiums, it wouldn't exactly kill them to just be a little more careful...

IMG_20240103_1128432.thumb.jpg.14ea26f37b7de0b50ddc19dc0a0345a9.jpg

The C-series truck, modelled on the last of the second-generation 'Active Line' cabs before the introduction of the squarebody Gen-3 line for the 1973 model year, looks really decent (despite additional cat hair, not evident until I started cropping the pics).

IMG_20240103_1128532.thumb.jpg.b716e1dd7cea94f3d6fefa9e80458ab3.jpg

I've never seen one of these wedge-bodied transporters in real life, but it seems like quite a good compromise to carry a car plus space for tools and parts.

IMG_20240103_1129022.thumb.jpg.32ade2a95e1ae2e577f0ce4238285e5f.jpg

Moulded-in ramps and straps add further realism, and the painted chequerplate appears decently finished.

IMG_20240103_1129142.thumb.jpg.f28ab7bc32f55a0d9a70bf02141b230b.jpg

Overall - a nice little combo. Not the sort of thing I'd usually go for, but it's really rather appealing and after I clocked it in The Entertainer I kept thinking about it for another week before buckling...

The reduced sale price of £12-odd was a little less salty than full RRP of like £19 or something.

I see the P6 still from time to time if you want one - Perks is an app just for NI and IOW apparently!

If you happen to find a Rover P6 from that range along with the vaguely Ford Econoline-ish 'Rally Hauler', then I'd be interested... cheaper's better, obviously, but I was surprised just how disappointed I was to find no more on the shelves last Friday.

Hmm.

Will also investigate the 'Poundland Perks' thing - if it's a card that knocks 1/3 off Hot Wheels, then I'm there for it...
