the number of castings seems to reflect the popularity of the real thing.

Ooh, more to look out for then!

Ive got a TPM (Taylor Precision Models) 1/76 scale mk2. They are/were a resin kit with a white metal base. I don’t think they’re made anymore though? I’ve got an HB Viva from the same manufacturer.

Something must have gone horribly wrong at TPM as this is what greets you on their website a whole decade after they were supposed to reopen!

Screenshot2023-09-27213557.thumb.png.d46694c3eaa984ca5b8c07756965ee50.png

Their models were excellent if rather fiddly to build. I have a Cavalier and an Escort built and another Cavalier, a Hillman Hunter and a Viva to do one day.

If you want a Capri in 1/76, Oxford have you covered for all three marks.

And Cararama did the Mk1 in standard and RS2600 guise, slightly bigger at 1/72.

Plus there was this crude lowriding plastic Mk1 from Lima as a load for their railway wagons.

I have 2 Wiking MK1 Capris. I bought them as a pair in a pack of similar cars about 25 years ago and they've been very well customised by someone. One was a T-top (I filled it in some years later) with shaved bumpers, hand painted pinstripes and a hand made RS 3100 rear spoiler and the other had been superbly converted into an estate! They're in my loft somewhere.

Shame about TPM. They were pretty good kits if I remember. They even had little door mirrors and bits at that small scale.

Ive got the Oxford ones, all three mk’s in various colours, plus a few doubles ready for repainting at some point. The first of which will be the beige mk2 repainted into authentic Miami blue!
Got a silver Cararama one around somewhere too.

strange as it might sound, but Capri’s are almost certainly the most numerous models I’ve got! Once I’ve moved I’ll get them all out together with my 1:1 scale car!

Never previous heard of TPM but apparently Bernard, the fella who runs it, still sells, albeit from home. His e mail address is on the website.

I owned a Nacoral 1/24;MK1 Capri, brought back from Majorca, back in the early '80s

Vanguards are announcing a  Mk2 early next year too. Should be a good one.

I wasn't aware of that one! I have the police Dinky version, it's pretty heavy! No wonder they went out of business.

There is also, of course, the Bburago 1:24 Capri Mk3, about which – weirdness.

Firstly, the original box was incorrectly marked 1973:

Screenshot2023-09-28at08_46_57.thumb.png.35ef89f9c3808a81edf37477509d6c38.png

Now seemingly corrected:

Screenshot2023-09-28at08_45_47.thumb.png.0bbb15c971dd1a243255714bd7d834b6.png

And the wheels have come in for some criticism for more closely resembling the steel LS wheels than the Injection pepperpots.

Bburago's publicity / marketing shots / renderings, though, depict it to wear much more true-to-life items:

Screenshot2023-09-28at08_46_34.thumb.png.7fd71c93f14967c3d6356182032a0ce4.png

I think they screwed the rear side window shape up a bit (the above pic looks more right than the model itself), but it's otherwise not a bad stab. If only it was 1:18 with more opening bits than just the doors.

The wipers ruin it for me, in real life they’d be four inch thick if it was like on the model, wings too high as well.

If you like messed-up proportions, this is what you need.

Lucky Toys 'INTERNATIONAL CHAMPION' in about 1:25 scale and made in Honk Kong

I had one of these, didn't like it but it sold well

That's not a rear spoiler, the boot lid is up on this one.  Bonnet opened too, but I can't remember the engine detail

I've one of those teensy Wiking Capris somewhere, though mine's all-over yellow.

Idea is to hopefully retrieve the attic collection from its slumbers over the next few weeks, and get it all sorted out.

Started yesterday with a bit of bathtime for some of the more befouled recent finds:

IMG_20230927_1438302.thumb.jpg.7140db0b4dd92de21a264441ab8d9a40.jpg

The big Corgi Mack was sorely in need of a bit of rub-a-dub-dub, though the Dinky D-series tipper was absolutely howling.

Everything's a bit better now, though.

IMG_20230927_1439162.thumb.jpg.b6ece6af074f37d8f9f82c0531e2e1f3.jpg

Emptied out one of my many random boxes of tat, but didn't make much more progress beyond taking some of that abrasive Pink Stuff paste to the Dinky Mk1 Zephyr, to clean those odd licks of red paint off it:

1857212508_IMG_20230609_1521492.thumb.jpg.22f161cb72c03662b5a23175d651c035.jpg1389234176_IMG_20230609_1521532.thumb.jpg.eb5d1a47360c3b683641d2506feae3bd.jpg

Improvement!

It's not perfect, but it's an honest enough little thing and I'm really quite fond of it.

I'm definitely going to have to decide on longer-term storage solutions though - much as I'd hoped to set up even a small diecast display somewhere in the house, I don't think this'll jive with MrsDC's aesthetic vision.

So I'm thinking of constructing a series of shallow wooden/ hardboard trays that'll stack under the ottoman bed, and at least allow me to see what's what as well as grab something to use as a laptop mascot each morning... at the minute everything's just crammed into shoe boxes and the like, and I can't remember what I have and what I don't any more (hence two Rover SD1 police cars in the above pics).

Posted

That's a good idea about a daily laptop diecast mascot. I might do that to cheer me up as work is a bit of a drag at present, to say the least.

Double-dunter today:

The Dinky Zephyr and that glorious Gamda Koor Impala coupe.

I kinda find it helpful to have something to fiddle with during phonecalls and the like - though best to make absolutely sure the laptop camera's switched off before going down that route...

Posted

I set up an impromptu diecast display in the house, it’s been there a few years now so it’s accepted. In fairness if I lived on my own the house would be full of them, probably best I have some restraint.

I used to have two small diecast display cases by the front door in the old place, but there just isn't the space to mount them here - the super-narrow hall is one drawback to this house, and I wouldn't really be able to stand back and admire them anyway.

20180322_083647.jpg

Leaving a couple of selected diecast at a jaunty angle on top of living room cabinets etc did not go down terribly well.

Hence why they're all in the attic...

Solido did the Le Mans RS Mk1 in 1/43rd

It comes in a least three different shades of blue.

Minichamps have done by far the biggest amount of Capris. These are just some of the road versions.

A blokes life isn’t complete without a shed/garage of some sort. If it’s nothing more than a place to hum to oneself over a Marcel Van Cleemput book.
