The triangle atop the rear plate suggests that these will be early 60s Trade Plates, which we are now so used to seeing in red-on-white.  Way Back When, you could buy packs of number plates, tax discs, etc, Corgi-branded, and although I don't remember specifically, it's not a stretch to imagine that they included Trade Plates.  The market was much less "global" in those days and the packs were UK-specific.

Found!  'Pack E'

Oh well, not going to retire just yet then

Yep, that's exactly how I remember them, well found.

Two boxes arrived today, both from forum members. First up, the orange stripe VW T3 ambulance from @155V6

20211008_154501

This has the Macau base, all my others except the Commando ones have been Chinese

Secondly, @Tenmil Socket sent me the Corgi Transit milk float that had been on my shite list for a while

20211008_15435020211008_154359

The closest I'd got was fondling the one made for my boss, to replace the one lost when the Zebrugge ferry sank

20200722_114537

Also along for the ride was this version of the Zakspeed Capri

20211008_154549

Lastly, this Cosmic Whites Blues which despite protests, is getting a custom makeover. If my plan works out I think you'll forgive me

Interested to hear the story of the Zeebrugge Transit story?

My boss used to do deliveries, a lot of which were for Ford running parts between test centres at Dunton and Cologne as well as other locations. He had a small fleet of Transits which clocked up a lot of miles, and were unofficially test beds for Ford, so they would often replace failed parts FOC, presumably so they could see why they had gone wrong.

My boss had changed his normal route for some reason and got on the Zebrugge ferry that fateful day, and helped several people out as it sank. He ended up in hospital with fairly minor injuries, and as he'd lost everything he had with him (including the Transit), he was donated some clothes to go home in. I wish pictures existed of him in his corduroy trousers and purple velvet jacket!

Someone at Ford made him the Corgi Transit as a momento

I think I’ll add a Corgi Milk Float to the list. I have the tow truck but the milk float looks a fantastic model.

Can I do a slightly late tat Friday?

IMG_20211008_200505.thumb.jpg.220c946039aa9284859656dda484e063.jpg

I went back to the shop in Nottingham and got these three from the £1 car bin. Unlike the Acclaim I got there, these three aren't in bad order at all. OK, the Astras paint job is terrible but I want to make that stock so I'll respray it anyway. Still, for £3 I'm pleased with my little haul!

Husky Beetle, nice

Thanks. Don't really know much about Husky but I like it - it's like a scaled down Corgi of the era. The only issue is it's missing a tyre but hopefully I can source an alternative somewhere.

It became a Corgi Juniors/Whizzwheels

20190604_122737

Which then became this

20200323_211036

Husky was the name for smaller scale cars, with Corgi the larger ones. They decided to drop the Husky name and just have Corgi/Corgi Juniors

Ahh OK. Everydays a school day! Nice Beetle Hot Rod. Weird to see it with a front engine as well as the rear - maybe it's 4WD like a 2CV Sahara.

I think it was Corgi's answer to the Hot Wheels Evil Weevil

Hot Wheels 1971 Evil Weevil - Redline Collector

And Johnny Lightning Bug Bomb

Johnny Lightning Commemorative Series – Mike Pigott's Diecast Toys & Models

Both of which I really want!

And a Hot Wheels interloper. Just got this one to fill the box, as I've been searching high and low for this one locally. It seemed to be in high demand among the scalpers when it came out. Liking the deep-dish slotmag style rims on this one.

Where did you find them?

I got them from a Facebook seller I use from time to time. (Ana's Hot Wheels for sale UK).

As you mentioned on Sunday, these are from a case that seems to have been missed in the UK, so it seems to be the only way of getting them. Yeah they cost more than Tesco's prices but I just offset that against time and fuel traipsing around shops and finding nothing! Still shitloads cheaper than eBay sellers too...

The enormous wheelarches on that Sierra Cossie make me a bit sad.

Britain’s Farm Tat seems to be going for some good coin at the moment. I had quite a bit of this when I was a kid but it used to be really susceptible to sunlight and brittle plastic. The Rice horsebox I had literally fell to bits after a few years in my window.

Can't seem to find matchbox or hot wheels here of any kind????

Tesco at Dinnington has them, they restock on a Saturday. The Tesco at the Wicker is shit. The Chesterfield one is usually stocked well, if there’s something specific give us a shout and I’ll keep an eye out.

Best Tesco’s for Matchbox are the Chesterfield, Rotherham and Dinnington.

A few weeks ago, a quite excellent parcel arrived from Norn Iron.

One of these days I'll take pics of the contents. Not today, though. Today I took my new Lada Samara for a spin in the countryside.
