Top gear plumbs new depths...

Is this not such a monumental moment that we should start a new, positive TG thread?! Just watched it on the ol' I-player. Impressive bird-age, impressive actual car action and silliness that involves suffering for the presenters rather than the cars. Wonderful. Reckon it'll stay like that or do you think that's the one that they'll look at in the Series Review as the one that only a few actual petrolhead geeks liked?

Was that this evening's? Neglected to watch.

I hope that ugly thing isn't a Citroen but fear that it may be. They are getting worse and worse. Just like the rest.

I did watch last weeks on iPlayer, purely for the SAAB bit, which was decent enough.

I was also quite impressed with the epic rack :)

ETA: And there's another one :) :)

Rack is fake.

Bentley and Brutus weren't. Fantastic!

Rack is fake.

I'll be the judge off that... :P

I made the mistake of looking on the Top Gear facebook after the show and just saw post after post slating the episode for being "Boring" and not having any decent challenges and "Y AUNT U CRASHIN CRAP CARZ LIKE MARINAS LOL"

I despair.

So many of them are these days, hardly an OEM one to be had.

I've only ever test driven a set of "enhanced" ones once - certainly very impressive looking but didn't have the handling qualities I was used to.

Still it would beat any options I have this evening.....

Don't worry it did bring about this lovely quote:

People who found tonights programme boring really do deserve to be shot.

I thought tonight's episode was absoolutely frikkin brilliant... I loved that as an essential programme there was nothing fancy about it, nothing particularly (if at all) staged and the furthest distance they seemed to travel from their "base" was to Donnington park. Simple, effective and brilliant...

As for the best thing about the programme I'm still thinking now about which out of the two mad aero engined cars and the morgan I'd take home with me at the end of the day.

TOP GEAR IZ KRAP.

Oh. No it isn't. This week it's things we like.

TOP GEAR IS RATHER BLOODY SPLENDID.

Agreed, I enjoyed this episode and now want a Morgan three wheeler even more.

I need a Caterham/Westfield/etc in my life at some point. I think however I'd be just as happy with a basic 1.4 rather than the firebreathing Superlight versions

Cool, I will check this episode out. Hopefully I can find it online by this evening.

Also, boobies not real.

Next week Kimi Raikkonen's meant to be in the reasonably priced car (presumably the Liana, that all the other F1 drivers have taken round the track) -according to Autosport's website. Which will mean the interview will be either deeply entertaining, or frustrating, depending on what mood he's in that day.

After the acknowledgement the other week from Clarkson that something crap was another organisation's 'India Special', do you think that the three of them have realised they better reduce the 'cocking about' content? Last night's episode was good, and they can do semi-serious features very well (the ones on Lancia, SAAB and Senna spring to mind). They have it in them to make a good show week-in, week-out - but have they the enthusiasm and self discipline?

When criticising the presenters though, remember it could be much, MUCH worse .....

This series of Top Gear, overall, has been pretty damn good. The only moment I've not really enjoyed (or took much interest in, rather) was those four wheel drive disability scooters. Each to they're own though…

The Saab feature the week before last night was excellent. That 99 Turbo with the brick red seats was a genuine thing of beauty.

Brutus – I want…! :D Yes, it may be useless to drive but come on – what a machine! Matt black and looked the dogs danglers. Loved the very large quantities of explosions and smoke. See Clarkson's face towards at the end of his drive? It was absolutely pebble-dashed in oil!

Disappointed, as usual, that this coming Sunday is the last in the series – if you can call a small handful of episodes a 'series' these days…

I think the current series has been spot on too, i.e., not too much knob-headery. I enjoyed last night's episode especially that 3 wheel Morgan. Anyone on here who has ever owned a large motorcycle will have known it was going to be good at donuts!

Posted

The Morgan did look a lot of fun for sure. Did he say it's almost two litres? That's two big cylinders! I think what really came across last night was that here were three people really enjoying driving around in old cars. Lovely. I'm glad all the numpties found it boring.

I wonder what the lads are actually looking at here :D Ugly thing is a Renault IIRC - fake or not, I know which one I'd rather look at.

This series does seem to be getting better, there was very little cocking about this week and you got a real sense of their true passion for cars that's often masked by the idiocy. The Bentley and Brutus were incredible pieces of engineering, trackday cars were great too but from a shiter's point of view the best bit had to be Alex James talking fondly of his brown Aggro - I think that guy could be one of us!

Posted

Just watched it. Yeah, a good episode.

I find it amusing how it seems to have enraged the thickos. 'IT WOZ SHIT M8 I LIEK IT WEN THEY SMASH SUM SHIT CARS AND CARVANS AND SAY JAMES MAY IS AN BENDER'.

Posted

that is a nice set of airbags!

I did enjoy the one last night. Both the Brutus and the Bentley were awesome, particularly the video of the Stig wrestling the Brutus round 'the lap'.

Clarkson in the KTM in the rain was also very funny.

I keep looking at Saab's myself as they seem so cheap now, I'm pondering about selling the Mondeo at somepoint and have been looking to see what's about for around £4k and you can get a late fully loaded 9-3 Diesel for that money, are they really that bad?.

If the Mondeo's depreciation upset you Trig, don't buy a Saab 9-3, unless you intend to keep it for a good few years.

My bro-in-law has one [saab 9-3 dizzler]...........he wishes that he didn't.

Sorry for thread hijack, but talking of Saabs, the real orphans will be the new 9-5s. Since they were introduced, which was at least a year ago(?), I've seen just two, and I suspect that's at least one more than most people.

Shame really as they were awesome looking things.
