Mike D
Escort Mk2 lowering block kit for the back will fit, then decamber the rear leaves if you need a bit more, and then coilover the front struts and shorten them to fit mk1 golf inserts. Will take you from nasty stock height as so: to a lovely nearer the ground stance: Marvellous. All available mega cheaply from Rally Design. Fit some 7" rear and 6" front dished wheels: It's all good!

Mat.T
Well done for buying it Hirst, i recon it will make a great daily. I have my excuses too mostly because of complete lack of money I will be thining my fleet down after xmas to fund my final year of uni, i'm a bit surprised there wasnt more interest in it though.2300 Turbodiesel sounds interesting did they sell those in the UK? Guest
I've been thinking perhaps the best course of action to start would be to sort out the suspension and paint the steels black, retaining the trim rings, leaving something like this: Dunno, need to see it for real before I do anything! Just throwing ideas around for now. The suspension is supposed to be identical to the Sapporo, so I've already lined something up regarding that! In a way I'd really love to chuck loads of money at this car and make it utterly mad, but I can't justify doing that on a daily. It would just make me uneasy to park it anywhere, thus defeating the object of it. This doesn't mean it won't get a mad engine chucked at it, it just means you will be waiting for a couple of years! Guest
Arranged to buy them from Mike, they were formerly on his Celeste.13x6 fronts and 13x7 rears - I'm going for the "small wheels" look. They're Bilbo Racing wheels, which seem to be pretty obscure.Couldn't resist really!

Guest
I know! First a plan to buy lowering springs, now this!Did you know that the Galant Turbo and Starion uses a 46G3 SOHC engine? The Lancer Evolution engine is simply a DOHC version of that. So I guess you could buy a Starion gearbox and a Lancer Evolution engine, some minor tweaking and you'd have a 300hp beige Galant..........er, not that I was looking or anything..... Mr_Bo11ox
What about a 300bhp Sigma wagon! With no sills!
Guest
Very possible! Some people consider mine to be the same generation as yours (with mine as just a facelift), but there is a lot of subtle panel changes. Mitsubishi consider it to be a different generation. I think the doors are the same and that's about it. Engine/box swaps should be the same though, so get to it! Imagine the shame we could cause if we turned up at a meeting of Lancer Evolution owners in our old heaps. This is meant to be a boring daily, but it sounds like it is going to become the coolest car of the fleet well before I get round to sorting the others. It is no coincedence that my generation of Galant is considered universally uncool. And now, time for the Japanese picture parade:
KruJoe
it sounds like it is going to become the coolest car of the fleetI reckon it's right up there, but he competition is stiff for top spot! Talking of spots *groans* ... after those immaculate Japanese pics, may I be so bold as to show you how they usually look in this part of Asia? Both are festering in different places on the next street to us. Wish I was in a position to rescue. Yours is gonna rock, Hirsty!Maybe we'll get to claim our free sit-inside once we're back in Yorkshire.
Mat.T
good work Hirst! i think i will be voting for this as my most anticipated car of 2008 in the RR award thingy.
Guest
Holy crap are those a set of Work Equip wheels on that one?! Wonder if they'd mind/notice if some bits were removed from them..... assuming they're not too obscure over there then! Might be a fantastic new source of parts. In other news, I now won't be getting the bodywork done (boo!) but I can take it when I'm ready (hooray!) so that balances it out nicely. Roll on payday and "sorting out my storage" day..... And hey Mat be careful, it's not "public" knowledge yet!! Though it has been heavily hinted at.

MrRegieRitmo
If anyone fancies a sneak preview, check this month's Practical Classics mag!Speaking of which, I was very surprised to see one of the back pages resembled something you'd find in the back of FHM - a page of naughty ads for chatlines etc. I thought the mucky Mick who usually reads PC will be the covered in axle grease type, not the covered in something else type. Has PC fallen on hard times or something or is it all a terrible mistake & that page was printed in there by the same printing firm who give us the lads mags? :lol:This month in FHM - Service your Marina for under a tenner
Mr_Bo11ox
^^^I noticed that too! Thought I was reading 'fast car' for a minute.I bet some of the beardies will get in a right tiz about that.
seth
Yeah, there's been a bit of a hoo-ha over on the PC forum. Apparently it was a mix up a the printers with Max Power! The PC staff are equally annoyed (or even more so) as everyone else.
michiel
Brilliant mix up. I would laugh my head off if they printed a few pages from Cocklepickers Weekly or the Journal of the Association of Royal Mug Collectors in C&SC.
mk2_craig
Yup, or one of those "limited edition porcelain doll, pay in twenty easy instalments of £99.99" full page ads in Max Power.
Guest
As above, I wonder what appeared in Max Power? And what would said Max Power readers would have to do for relief?! Guest
Collection on Thursday afternoon! Taking the train, then driving 100 miles in the dark (Stamford to Wakefield), meant to be some horrendous roadworks somewhere on the A1 too. Fantastic - a bit like the Charmant collection mission, but at night.Excitement levels rising.....
Mr_Bo11ox
Woooooo! I love a good collection mission, obv a bit of nerve-generated pre-mission chundering and migraine notwithstanding of course.
Guest
Phew, not just me then.Pre-car buying, I go into a series of mood swings, one minute I'm overly excited about getting the car, the next I start dreaming up strange scenarios where the engine explodes and I skid into a ditch. However, whilst I drive it back, I get very caught up in the moment and start grinning inanely and humming along to the radio (if it works), very conscious of the fact that I look like an utter fool. Then when I get to the first motorway services, I start to inspect the car in detail and coo at all the things I was too embarassed to in front of the seller, like the twin gloveboxes on the Charmant or all of the little lights on the dashboard.Quite sad, really!
