That is truly a thing of beauty. Note to self: must run the Solara up to the jet wash tomorrow, some bastard bird has crapped on the bonnet again.

Mash, my Solara is a C-plater too. As was my Alpine, come to think of it.

RichieG, what's the story with the Sud? Always had a soft spot for those.

Wuv,

The Alfasud has been off road for a few years now,

It isn't bad actually but that is one of the cars that will be sorted and looking for a new custodian.

It is going to want some repairs to the bulkhead area under brake master cylinder,it isn't bad but needs attention and probably a bit of work underneath now and of course recommisioning, new battery ,petrol etc etc

I intend to sort it properly as this car is my money ticket, once it is sorted it is one of very few cars that has actually increased in value and needs to be sold to help the aged (cars) lol

It is the green cloverleaf 1.5 ti on a y reg and in best colour red :-)

cheers

Hi Station,

The Cherry is one of the cars that i have days where i think No sell it ,then i have days thinking actually i should keep it.

My problem is i paid far too much money for it and as it is probably isn't worth a mega amount,so i thought maybe get it sorted and then get something reasonable for it once it is good enough.

The main issue is they still aren't worth an awful amount,a good one is probably only worth about £1500 ish,i paid over £800 for it bloody Ebay when i had a couple of drinkies and got caught in a bidding frenzie!!!

So the answer is yes it may be for sale lol

cheers

Alex,

Yes mate it is costing a BLOODY FORTUNE!!,but the cars that are in there are restored ones and can't be kept outside or they would deteriate or get vandalised!!

I wish i had some cheap dry barn or unit but both things don't normally go hand in hand do they lol

That is always and has always has been the problem finding storage for these cars which i would imagine is half the problem for everyone on here unless they own a bit of land or something.

I often wished i had the money to buy a bit of land with purpose built units for cars to be stored in but that probably won't happen lol

cheers

Epic stuff! Keep up the good work, and keep us posted with pics!

Is it just me, or does the Cherry look like it's a completely different colour in the pictures including sunlight?

Posted

Great stuff, Richie. That Talbot makes my Maxi look like its just rolled off the production line!

Luxo,

The pics of the cherry on the driveway were when it had just been washed by the sellers son and the pics of it on the road parked up and down the yard were ones i took.

My camera phone isn't brilliant and it makes some of the cars colours look different.

The cherry could do with both sides being painted really as there as some flaws which need to be addressed to make it quite nice but generally it is fairly presentable for a 30 year old Datsun though.

Tim,I don't quite no how to take your message Mate?,are you saying you don't think the Talbot looks very good Mate

cheers

I think we all can relate to that - well done on a superb restore. I have to be honest i'm also bit akin to trying to save something no one else would. Hence the little Fiesta pop i've just done and the Anglia estate i'm on with which I wish i'd never started !! and thats before I get to the old Lancer. I must be mad to want some BL tin as my next project...

Good luck with the rest of the cars especially the FSO

Thanks Anglevan,

I have always been the same!

I must have a mental check list the comprises of something like this . .

q1 Does anyone other than you like this vehicle?

a1 No

q2 Is it uneconomical to repair?

a2 yes

q3 If you don't decide to take it on would anyone else?

a3 No

Q4 were these cars desirable new?

a4 No (not really)

Q5Does everyone think you need your head tested if you buy it?

a5 yes

Q6 is this car worthless even if in good condition?

a6 yes

LOL you get the picture though

Funnily enough i too rescued a mark 2 Fiesta popular

It is so basic and needs some serious work around the inner wings and usual rot places but i really like it though!

Everyone thought i was stupid to save it because i could pick a good one up for about £5-600 but i just felt sorry for this one!

I am on the hunt for panels though, not actively though as the money isn't there yet unfortunately to do the resto work .

Anyway waffling on . .

cheers

Nice one, Richie. I only thought you had the FSO, not the Alpine or the Wedge. :)

The Datsun Cherry is a little peach - so to speak.

New and old.We got the Chrysler started today and drove her out to pump the tires up,sounds like a tank though as the exhaust has totally gone lol

They look like two completely different cars but spot the same bits :-)

Super. Nice to have a comparison - like the Rootes stand at the NEC this year! I'd really like an early Alpine. I'm guessing that one's done well to have its interior cloth survive this long! Looks like the typical French destructo-cloth.

Posted

Yeah! My photography was not a disaster! Not too bad for an otherwise useless Motorola phone. :)

Good work, and interesting to see the comparison between old and new. It aged pretty well actually.

Posted

Dolly,

Yep you got it, the backing disintegrates and takes the material out!

I can have it repaired as someone in the club got some material.

I am scared to sit on it though now lol

There is only about 8 Chrysler Alpines left according to Howmanyleft.com although that isn't completely acurate.

Yes Ladalout you did well Mate, the pics come up really well didn't they!

cheers
