Rover 800 coupe: now a very tall brad production

I have had some success cleaning the engine. I was feeling in a violent mood so I attacked it with steam, power washer, GUNK and a variety of brushes - toothbrushes, stiff paintbrushes and a radiator brush. I have still got to 'dress' it with various sprays (mainly Autoglym Rubber and Vinyl restorer which is great for giving a shine on an engine) but here it is anyway - before and after:

The dented drivers door is beyond repair. The ruckle has gone across the skin and it is distorted in two directions. No doubt someone could fix it but, as I am having window trouble at the same time (grinding, graunching sounds and little movement) I may as well swap the whole door. At the same time, I shall pop a new offside front wing on, I think.

 

The car will have to stay multicoloured until the Spring when the weather is kinder to new paint. And once I have some spare dosh.

Brad, that is one seriously lovely car. Those alloys are my dream alloys. If I could get a set of those alloys and that elusive Philips R984 CD-player, I really do think my spares pile will be complete. Along with too many car floor mats :(

More time spent detailing the engine bay. Around 10 hours of dismantling, cleaning, reassembling. One pair of brand new headlamps also fitted - cost £20, new and boxed for the pair.

Blimey, surely if anything is going to bring about ‘the inevitable’ its spending 10 hours making the engine look nice! It does look spot on mind you.

Looks like you could eat your dinner off it. I've thought about cleaning my Sterling's engine once or twice, but as it apparently still, has it's pre-sale wax on, I thought against doing it.

Finally got my Brownie 127 photos back from Truprint. I shall scan these and upload/download/load over this weekend. I apologise for the delay which was caused by nothing more than Roveritis - a complaint that means no matter how fast you go, people still insist on overtaking you.

Including the cost of buying it, a set of brand new wheels, a couple of tyres, front discs and pads, lots of paint, a second hand door, some polish and wax together with new number plates, screen scuttle, wipers and wiper arms, the whole thing has cost a little over £505.

 

Man hours? About 50. But mine,  so free. :-D

That looks great. Such a pity that the previous owner allowed it to become such a wreck, though.

:shock: ... from what I paid for mine, new, in 97 >> I think i have passed £505 [going the other way]...and I haven't trashed/thrashed/neglected mine at all​.

 

lesson there, I believe
