Another 405 joins the fleet

Thank god 405s are still firmly in the “too old to be depreciating any more, too young to be classic†category – well, petrols are anyway. Diesel estates seem like they may be following the 505 trend in the next few years.

This is my latest, just collected and the princely sum of £310 (plus tax) invested. Has 92,000k, and seems pretty good. Chap owned it for 11 years and has detailed every single service and part purchased, I love that. Thought I’d try an estate this time to see if they drive and handle as well as the saloons. They do, even if they are a bit noisier.

It still has it's tailgate trim. Gasp shock! I thought they fell off within 5 mins of them leaving the showroom

I wish mine was in that condition! Pity an automatic petrol would be unaffordable right now. :(

If anything goes wrong with it, not that I'm wishing that upon you of course! Can I have first refusal on the trim?

That really is a fine looking car. I can see why Vauxhall gave up on estates in this sector after the rather piece-meal Cav Mk2!

Yes you can WTC!

Actually one reason I got it was even if it did go pop it would be a very useful source of parts for my saloon, and it's extremely useful so you can't lose really can you. Not that it shows much sign of expiring, the thing's in fine fettle, these cars are bullet-proof anyway. Silver looks great on these, just wish my saloon was silver and not lacquer peel red.

Talking of petrol economy, with diesel 11p a litre more than petrol that wipes of up to 5mpg of most diesels anyway. This thing will do late 30s mpg cruising on the motorway, I get almost exactly 27mpg average from all my (6) 405 2.0 Autos I've had in daily use.

Now that is nice and those wheels are class, really one of the better sets of factory made types.

My parents had 2 405's in my youth. First a red G reg one and later a K plate.

Great cars to be fair.

What a honey! Excellent value too - a diesel in that condition would command three times the price you paid, which would buy a lot of petrol...

Get yourself another one Richard, you know you want too...

Petrol automatic, with leather seats.... nothing wrong with that car that a spraygun full of colour wouldn't fix. Lush.

In that spec and colour it does have a slight "old money" look to it
