254575 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Just popped down the road for some lunch, and their was a guy outside the Kia head office with a placard. standing next to his 2009 Kia Magentis. I stopped to ask him what his issue with Kia was, apparently, the car is worthless now, due to Kia giving a bucketload of them to hire companies with a buyback price of 1.5k, making them worthless overnight. He says he cant PX for anything as no-one will take it. not sure if he has a case, but fair play to him. will let you know if it turns into a standoff with rubber bullets etc !
cort16 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Was "Kia Magentis, this car is worthless" not the tagline on their advertising when new? He's daft for buying it in the first place to be honest especially if he paid anywhere near full price. Lets hope it doesn't turn into a dirty protest.
fiatdaft Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Were they not on buy one get one free at the time?
cort16 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Lolz yes I forgot about they. I think I remember broadspeed doing that offer. It was the previous generation one mind you.
ProgRocker Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Bad news for him, good news for the Autoshiters / Bangernomic-ists.
Cavcraft Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 He'd get a good deal at Cavcraft for that. Could take it as deposit against a Mondeo and then simply forget to mention some made up monthly charges and admin fees. *RFL not included.
maxpower Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 i will give him thruppence and a half eaten polo mint for it
retrogeezer Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 £1.5k you say, hmmm - they look alright IMHO.
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I bet he wishes he'd bought an Octavia now. MG6 owners will be doing the same, but they will have nowhere to protest, as dealers keep pulling the plug.
boobydoo Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Well, I just got a bid in the trade of £5000 for a made up 09 plate Magentis like the one that bloke has, so he's talking bollocks. I wish I had nothing better to than stand around like that blaming everyone else for all the worlds woes. Get a life you sad twat. P.S I'm in a bad mood cos Ive not had a day off in two weeks and I'm coming down with flu.
Shep Shepherd Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I offer a set of darts, a tankard, a Bendy Bully and BFH - Bus Fare Home
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 He probably went to 'We give you fuckall for any car.com', who would only give you £1500 for a 59 plate Lambo!
cort16 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 They probably offered him 5K but was offended by that as he paid 12 for it 2 years ago or summurt.
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Serves him right really for buying a car only fit to be a minicab. They are cheap for a reason. Muppet of the year award?
Negative Creep Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 So why didn't he do his research before buying one? Doesn't take Mike Brewer to tell you that sort of car is cheap to buy but depreciates quickly. Of course its clearly someone else's fault
Father Ted Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 This bloke has been stood outside my local council offices for 5 years now - which seems a bit daft as the council has changed since then. Perhaps the Kia man might end up like this.....
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Someone needs to stand at the side of him with another sign saying 'Spot the gullible moron' with an arrow pointing to him.
warren t claim Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 In Wirral we used to get several protest cars parked up slagging off the local council/police/supermarkets until the local authority passed an "open to access" rule whereby ANY car could be removed from the public highway is a window was broken. A canny protester then dumped a full skip outside a church that had enraged him by daring to have a mobile mast fitted. On the skip he had written MOBILE PHONE MASTS IN CHURCHES KILL CHILDREN! One evening after a heavy bout of drinking myself and a friend went and changed it to read MOBILE PHONE MASTS IN CHURCHES MAKE ME WANT TO KILL CHILDREN! The skip had gone within 24 hours
cort16 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Maybe he's protesting as he didn't realise the interior was leather when he bought it and now he can't sell it.
Guest Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 The bloke is talking shite. KIA bought me lunch the other week and they were at pains to point out how hard they work to protect residuals.
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 He could be a minicabber, and it could have eleventy hundred billion miles on the clock...Or one of those pompous old farts that writes to 'Pointles view with letters that start 'Dear BBC, why oh why oh why oh why....'
Guest Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Thinking about it, he should just be taken away and GASSED.
r.welfare Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Who are these hire companies that Kia have punted Magentises out to? Sounds like a car rental firm we can do business with.
Alexg Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I don't understand this blokes point. If everyone wanted to own a 2009 KIA Magentis it would be worth loads. Unfortunately no body does, THATS why it's worth nothing. You bought the wrong car, get over it.
Felly Magic Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 He might as well sell it to a banger racer. LOL
Albert Ross Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Here's a couple. mate, many moons ago, bought a slightly scruffy Pug 504.... from a trader. After a week, he took it back , with the top flitches collapsed, and poking the bonnet up. It sat there with a big sign in the screen suggesting the trader was a cunt. He got his cash back fairly quickly. Another mate, bought one of the last Escorts, NEW. Pepper Red 16V hatch. He noticed a few "Quality Control" issues, and began to note them down.. there were over 100 "niggles" to sort, and the Dealerr told him to bollocks. He wrote to Ford. Who in turn wrote to Detroit on his behalf. They invited him, at their expense, to Detroit. He was asked if he would like to be responsible for the Quality Control Department at Jaguar. He accepted graciously. They never did fix the Escort though..... they swapped it for a much nicer vehicle instead.
sporty-shite Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I smell bullshit. What hire company in their right mind would sign up to an offer that gave a crap buyback price? Just imagine the pitch, "yes, you can run a fleet of Korean shite that no-one will want to rent, and the whole life cost will be huge, because we'll give you dollar-ten for them on the back end." Rental companied want as much as possible for their cars, and the onlt reason they's settle for a £1500 buyback is if they only paid £1600 new. Come to think of it.......
dieselnutjob Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I thought that the way that car rental firms work is that they get 40% "fleet" discount, hire them out for a year, and then sell them for more than what they paid.
gtd2000 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I thought that the way that car rental firms work is that they get 40% "fleet" discount, hire them out for a year, and then sell them for more than what they paid. That's what I've long assumed to be the case as well - same for the company or fleet markets in general? If anybody wants to sell me a 2009 KIA Magentis for £1500 quid I'd be interested - surely it's similar to a Sonata under the bodywork no?
andrew e Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 I was actually trying to buy an auto one of these Yes they are worth half their value after a few years (see point one ) as would an equivilant Mondeo, Vectra et all. It's hardly new news! I instead have a 3 year old Vectra that retailed for exactly 30% of its purchase price....
