  1. This is when I got back home on Sunday, but needs decent speakers to sound realistic. Shame about the engine bogging down when I give it a bootful of throttle when I pull away though Hopefully someone has a better video?
  2. What more can I add, apart from another thank you to Dollywobbler for organising it - it was a big incentive to pull my finger out and make some progress. A shame I didn't make it down earlier, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening which I survived with only minor injuries. And Richard, I think I owe you some food after getting an attack of the late night munchies and eating everything in sight!
  3. Thanks. I'll add a bit more of the build story in due course. TBH, when I first started the thread on here I wasn't certain how well a modified car would go down so I kept quiet. And then I started thinking it might be fun to surprise everyone! I've deliberately kept visual modifications to a minimum, simply because to my eyes it looks better that way. Yeah, I'm really pleased with the exhaust - I wanted it to look as much like the original as possible (position and even the rolled tip) and still give a decent sound without being overly large. Hopefully the next stage is to sort out the fuelling; I think these should help: Brand new carbs, swapped with a mate for a crate of beer If I'd had time I'd have fitted them before last weekend, but need to make gaskets and sort out a different fuel line arrangement so not a 30 minute job. Then I need to put a patch on the nearside chassis rail and space out the original wheels (plus afford new tyres!) But then it should be MOTable, and I might 'forget' to mention the increase in engine size to them when I drop it off in their car park... The van was slow, but got there and back without the temperature gauge even budging above half way, despite first gear and sub 10 mph on one of the hills! Off in it for a couple of thousand miles around France next month, so it was a good shakedown trip (first use this year) in preparation for that. Oh, and one last thing - can you guess which one is mine?
  4. Don't be, it's well lonely right now! Just waiting for the others to get back...
  5. Made it! And every other bugger is having fun at the museum. Nothing for it but to turn to drink. Oh, and have a photo.
  6. Finally, I'm on my way after picking up the car again! Exhaust looks good, shame the rest of the car lets it down. Devil's Bridge here we come!
  7. Oh, I *will* be going, no question. But I can't just go now as I have to pick up the Stellar and (hired) trailer while the exhaust fitters are around, which they wouldn't be on Sunday. They've said they'll work on it until it's done, as normally they close at 12 on a Saturday, which I guess is something I shoudl be pleased about. But if I'd known I would have popped down in the BX last night, instead of waiting up here.
  8. Bugger. Have just spoken to the company doing the exhaust, and it won't be ready until 4. Which given the 3 hour drive from Anglesey, means I will miss the museum visit. Will there be anybody back at camp who isn't going? I'm well pissed off; this has been my goal for the last 8 months and it's feeling like it's slipping away
  9. Very warm in my case, as it's a nightmare to split. As Dollywobbler can testify!
  10. Back home now, and managed a reasonably impressive 12.5 mpg. Slight problem is that the place which will be doing the exhaust had a power cut today, so they still have a car on the ramps which needs finishing. So not sure when it'll be finished - my initial plan was to drive over Friday night, camp over and collect first thing for a leisurely drive down to Devil's Bridge. That looks unlikely now, as they'll probably still be working on it Saturday So I'll just get there when I can, hopefully in time for the museum visit!
  11. I've passed this many times in North Wales, but this thread prompted me to take a photo. With bonus Rover 600!
  12. Cheers, that makes more sense I guess seeing as we may be elsewhere Saturday night. Might stick a few in just in case though - I'll probably be splitting a few tomorrow so they can dry out more over the weekend. Vulgalour, I'll raise an entire bottle!
  13. Well, the journey has started! On my way to Anglesey to get an exhaust made, then down to Shitefest on Saturday.
  14. Definite bonus in my book. If it's set up and specified correctly you seriously won't notice ANY difference, as the bloke says. And even if the system does start giving you problem which can't easily/cheaply be fixed, you#re no worse off really than having a standard petrol version
  15. You'll get to see the earliest remaining Stellar in the UK in that case. If that appeals... ETA early afternoon, depending on breakdowns.
  16. Simple, just do the pit manoeuvre as shown once or twice* on World's Wildest Police Videos and once the copper has crawled out of the debris of the resulting crash, tell him you are performing a citizen's arrest on him. WCPGW?
  17. Had a few goodies arrive today! Found a blanking plate which was a good fit too, which was a stroke of luck. I managed to grab a few minutes to cobble it together, and the end result is....it lives Not all good news though, as there seems to be a pretty serious carb problem which is made worse by the electric pump. There's so much fuel going through that it's literally soaking the plugs, so if it doesn't catch straight away, you have no chance. But at least with an electric pump you can isolate it while cranking to weaken the mixture. Will have to look into that after (or even at!) the weekend... Wiring wise I've put in the relay you can see in the picture, and made a temporary connection to the coil positive to trigger it. I've ordered an inertia switch which I'll fit at some point, but other than that it's probably good to go. If I get chance to tidy up the wiring before Thursday I will though, I like it to look neat.
  18. Great, another wasted half hour looking at Russian trucks fording rivers etc...
  19. I like it. There's just about enough techy bits to keep me interesting, with (probably) just enough dumbing down to appeal to a wider audience, to hopefully bring in enough viewing figures.
  20. Would the original number plate really have been in two sections, either side of the bonnet badge?
  21. The LPG system works fine, it just needs filling up.
  22. /\ Not enough yellow cars?
  23. I will be 'camping' but under fibreglass rather than canvas, so not sure that really counts. I could sleep on the floor of the van and promise not to turn the heater on, then I would be really roughing it!
