Some Greek finds

I've been staying in Greece for the past month now, just outside the city of Corinth.  From a car spotting view, post economic crisis Greece is great! Loads of old bangers are still being used by the locals, most in appalling condition.  Loads of abandoned shite just lying all over the roads too- it seems you can sell the number plate back to the government to show it's unused, although I see many people flaunting that, driving around with no plates!

What a lot of superb spots, that white Alto is class in a glass, looks like a running shoe!  For some reason it's only just dawned on me that the Ami 6 must be more or less a 2CV in a stylish body looking at the wheels and general layout, that and the Visa seem to have survived well.  Hot, dry conditions obviously help the chod to survive, although that Nova clearly hasn't been so lucky.

Yes, it's a Subaru, called a Subaru 600 here in Greece, but also known as the Rex.  Got a tiny 544cc engine! It dates from 1981-85

I must remember to take my camera the next time I'm in Zante. Hard to believe just how awash the place is with old shitters. Our group hired a load of quads the last time we went, and when a couple of them overheated, the hire place sent out a mechanic in an absolutely fucked MKII Transit, complete with missing bumper and a headlight. When he got back in after he'd done swapping the quads, he hotwired it and sped off. Brilliant stuff.

Greece isn't nearly as good for tat these days as a decade ago. I holidayed on Kos in 2003 and the place was awash with top drawer tat - mk3 and 4 cortinas aplenty, 70s datsuns, FSO's,Hillmans etc etc. Went back to the same place last year to find it had almost all gone, replaced with low spec ex hire moderns. Gutted! I presumed the EU had brought in some kind of MoT style road worthiness test and killed all the grot off.

Nice old Cortina MKV (yes, they were called the Cortina over here in Greece rather than the Taunus interestingly.

 

Pretty ruined Opel Manta (I think) used for stock car racing or similar.  Looks to be abandoned though now

Old brown Opel Ascona- 4 fog lights for some reason?

 

Two elderly commercial vehicles- some Mitsubishi L300 from the early 80s and an old Mini van

Elderly petrol tanker- 1970s Toyota Hilux?

I'm quite sure it's a U10 Toyota Dyna, though I can't find a picture of my own to match exactly.

 

 

Here's a Daihatsu Delta, which is closely related.

 

 

I believe there's a Hino version too.
