Diecast Autoshite (Updated 4/11/13 with added Daewoo-ness)

I did mean H vans. An extra A crept in there somehow. Probably as I was flicking between Autoshite and Oxford Diecast's intterwebby page, where I have been eyeing up a 1:43 rendition of Barry from Auf Weidersehn Pet's Bedford HA (I think if I got one though I'd have to scuzz it up a bit - it looks wrong when it's clean).

Sorry about that.

I also noticed that Oxford do a bronze 1:76 Granada/Consul (the one off the Sweeney actually, so it's a Consul). You never know, they might eventually do one in metallic blue.

:D Vanguards already do it, in the right colour, Miami Blue; shame it's a Ghia not a GXL, but you can't have everything. I keep looking for these on the bay, and on the odd occasion one turns up at the right sort of price (much rarer than turning up at all) it usually runs away from my budget rather quickly. There will be one, sooner or later.

OK, now to look at Oxford Diecast's site, I knew nothing about the AWP van!

Diecast shite alert!

LIDL seem to have some Matchbox model sets in the 'random tat' aisle in the middle. Unfortunately there were very few left at my local shop and I was in a bit of a hurry so I don't have scale/pricing details (though being at Lidl it must be reasonably cheap), but they did seem to be geared towards older models.

The current Matchbox range does have quite a selection of older cars, which is nice. Among those I've seen (even here!):

Mini van

73 Firebird

VW-Porsche 914

Jag XK

67 Mustang

78 Dodge Monaco copcar

And I'm sure there are others, I'm working purely from memory here.

78 Dodge Monaco.

Thats a shame as the 1974 model Monaco is the best one.

I know what you're thinking... Bluesmobile! Matchbox did have a 74 Gran Fury in the range for many years, which repaints nicely as a retired Mount Prospect car. Now how would I know that? The Gran Fury and the Monaco are extremely alike, so you can get away with it. In the 80s, the Gran Fury was twinned with the Dodge Diplomat, and the differences were even fewer.

Hows about this for diecast autoshite? corgi_11.jpg

A gift from a mate.

What happened to our own Mr Lobster? He had 1,000s of die-cast models for sale and even had his own website. lobstertube.com I think. :?

Still here but just not so much these days

Quick Altaya explanation - Altaya is the brand used for all the partwork models produced using IXO castings. What lands over here is a bit hit and miss and rarely does the entire series make it over here. Currently we have loads and loads of shite / scat in miniature - lots of Simcas (seriously, lots of some. We have all the UKs allocation of some of them  ) . Quality generally bob on and pretty much superb for the money.

Me too! :D

I sold my mint & boxed Dinky SD1 a few years back. I have some badly chipped & painted Dinky Transits too. They are going to get the Nitromors treatment and a full re-spray some time next year

I picked this up for £7 last year, all because of a missing outer card sleeve. Renault 21 estate in French Police livery, made by Norev. Found out it should really be about £25! Bargain!

More Altaya branded autoshite, starting off with a Renault 12 & Renault 5. The 5 I paid £2 for and the 12 was £3! Talk about a bargain!

Now those are more like real-world prices! :D Digby's want over 20 quid for a police Polonez. I really really want one, but not that much! And thanks for the Spanish police cars, I've been seeing them on ebay too, but again, they run way over budget.

The most I've paid for an Altaya is a tenner. Sadly as they are getting thinner on the ground, prices are creeping up. The last lot I got 6 models for £30 from Ipswich Toy Fair from a bloke who had quite a few that he was clearing off. They included a Peugeot 504 saloon in blue, The Malaga, a Seat Ritmo (Strada), Seat Fura (Fiat 127), Seat 131 plod, and a Lancia HF Turbo Delta.

Here's the Seat Fura Crono (127 Arbarth)

Proof even a diecast model of the original Mini can look shite. A Corgi Vanguards model. Dear oh dear!

I've never really bothered with die-casts but I did get these three last December, in a little broom cupboard of a shop in Whitby. They are all made by 'Polistil' - a 126, 127 and a Campagnola. I don't think the bloke knew what they were (his words were "the Landrover thing is actually a Fiat!!" - My thought was - Oh, I know exactly what it is  ) so I got them for a fiver each :D

I think I've got that one too Richard. I know I have quite a few in those boxes, including the Volvo F12 transporter. Must dig them out, when I can find some shelf space...

They are in tidy nick, and Polistil are fairly rare here in the UK now.

I've just started to sort out my models that have been in the loft for years, and get them back on display in the spare bedroom. This is the start...
