Back to life

A very good friend of mine has just saved this lovely old Hillman, it had been in a lockup since 1976 and the engine was seized solid but a good soaking in diesel soon sorted that, and it now runs very well having covered less than 30,000 miles in it's time, the brakes were also seized so all the wheel cylinders needed replacing, so far the only new parts needed. It goes in for MOT sometime in the next few weeks, I did get to drive it on a private lane and it charmed me!......

Superb! That's amazingly little work needed after 35 years of inactivity.

Makes me hopeful I can coax my Renault back to life after a mere 4 years of inactivity.

Well saved.

Nice save there BGS6, looks as if it was covered up in storage as even undercover storage can be very dusty. I often give one of my sleeping Sterling a good coat of WD40 over the engine to keep things nice and free, its also covered with a bit of plastic sheeting and a picnic carpet. I used to drive around the local private land, but havent done for about a year or so as there was a small knocking type noise coming from the cambelt area so I thought to keep it off until I can get it sorted.

Quality! The dashboard and the steering wheel are just fantastic, top saving.

Excellent work! The first car I remember my parents having, when my sister was born in 1961, was one of these. Five stars, all gold; have a day off!

That's ace. Series II is it? I get mixed up!!

That's what I'm guessing as well, though I get similarly confused about early Minxes (and the later ones come to think of it...)

Great save though. What a find!

What a lovely old thing. Looks like it has survived its lay-up pretty well :)

Lovely car...I like cars with some "patina" still intact

Splendid. It's always good to see stuff like this being resuscitated.

Good work.
