She had her first visitors today: Steve and Marilyn, who have this red Merc...

We were sitting on the balcony, Lynne in her wheelchair. She managed to keep up a normal conversation and even pet our little dog at the same time. It's all good stuff... :D

I just had a PM from someone (naming no names) and having typed a reply, thought I'd share it, as it's exactly what I'm feeling. I don't think I've said it so well until now...

I've been overwhelmed by the response, and all from total strangers! I honestly didn't think anyone would be much interested in our soap, but it's very heartwarming. If we do end up returning, I hope I can meet some of you. Anyone who fancies a daytrip to the Lake District will have a cuppa waiting...

That offer stands, in case we do find ourselves living in our little terrace...

If I can bring the Yorkies to you in person, all the better! :D

^^^If this was Faceache, both those posts would've had the "like" button clicked.

I'm hoping some local Spar will have them, I mean Barrow isn't exactly the back of beyond!!!!!! But you'll be most welcome, with or without chocolate. :D

I sincerely hope that Mrs R's recovery is rapid and does not necessitate a return to cold/damp UK which won't do either of you much good. However, if the worst comes happens, and you do return I know of a secret stash of 2 A40's lurking in a shed, which could keep your mind off the weather.

Posted

Whether I do or not, and I find the hint extremely interesting... the A40 Club might want to know about the stash. Might I suggest that you shoot off a couple of photos (if possible) and post them on their forum? It's at www.a40farinaclub.co.uk and is a real nest of A40 info.

I thought I'd share the joy of my handiwork from the other day...

Yes, this is the famous 100% recycled waste-material wheelchair ramp, for use with the 60 euro secondhand wheelchair. :D Oh didn't I mention that? Ex-rental, with a folding Zimmer thrown in. So now we own one of each, and I've borrowed one of each from my future employer, which means we have two of each. Perfect.

Meanwhile, the Boss has been eating her meals unaided, which is progress, and is trying to get in and out of her wheelchair with less and less help from me. It's all good!

Posted

Now all we need is Youtube footage of the ramp in use..... downhill, goggles on, drifting......!!

 10/10 for persistence Norm, but no, she just sends a man round when there's stuff to do. And that channel shouldn't even be there, a previous tenant put it in; it doesn't go to a drain but to a well, so he couldn't have done it more wrong really. No idea why she hasn't already sent Jimmy to see to it.

Really glad things are going the right way for you and Mrs Ramrod. She seems to be progressing well, and the fact she's home is a fantastic step.

Best wishes from Sporty_Towers.

Just read this whole thread Eddy. I'm wishing you both all the very best. She sounds a fighter does Mrs R, and I hope she makes a more or less full recovery.

Posted

Thank you chaps, and those who've commented in the Grin and Grump threads too. She does seem to be progressing day by day. I might even be able to start work soon! Perhaps a bit later than intended, but if I can leave her for the day, with confidence, that will be a darn good sign. Work is being very understanding, which helps. At the moment she can't stand, even with the zimmer, but is managing to get from bed to wheelchair and back; all I have to do is place the chair.

When I picked her up from hospital I was in the truck. The seat is higher than the wheelchair and it was a bit of a game getting her in. Since then, the only time she's been out we took the Granada. The seat in that is lower than the wheelchair... can't win! It's safe to say I'm not even going to try to put her in the X1/9.

Good stuff!

I recommend a BX or a similarly suspended Citroen for transporting the less-than-agile. The seats have good height adjustment at the front, and of course one can raise the car up to help pitch 'em out.

I take an old man on his fortnightly shopping trip to the big smoke* and it's great! He can just get about (slowly) with two sticks, but his legs don't really bend.

That should be on the Autoshite calendar list!

Actually, yes it should! Especially with the 460 beside it, and an Almera peeping in from another aisle...

There is also a 406 estate in the mix too, and what looks like a Perodua thingy

Today I've been cleaning-up and prepping the wheelchair I bought, which has the big wheels with handrails, that she can propel herself. Up to now we've been using a hospital type: smaller wheels, requiring assistance. So I brought it in, and she's been using it. Getting in and out independantly, wheeling herself around the house. Fortunately we live in a bungalow! She must be getting better, she's complaining...

Posted

Wheeling herself about will give her back some independence at least. Things do sound like they are improving for her mate, and before long she will be giving you a right old earbashing for doing stuff wrong, just like all swmbos do :P

Posted

Well now she has wheels. you get your dinner cooked at least!

Posted

Like this one, perhaps, FM?

Oh I'm still cooking, Albert; for a while yet I think. I don't mind, I get more chips this way! :D

You need a Rover 213 to go with her mate :P

Posted

Absolutely! I loved the Prussian Blue velour interior on those....

Why not? The roof comes off...:mrgreen:

Today she's been using her chair solo, and even went to bed while I was having a doze, without disturbing me! We had a drive out in the Granada too, went to look at the harbourside service park for the rally that's on this weekend. Better and better day by day. This is what we want. She' s practicing with her zimmer too, but that's a bit too much work at the moment.

Posted

That is great news eddy, pleased to be reading of her progress. :)

Posted

Super, well done Mrs Ramrod!

Eddy, as bad as things have been, and still are, it must be so encouraging to see positive progress, however small, every day. Keep up the good work.

Posted

Her progress is extremely encouraging, yes. Her son is running the Athens Marathon on Sunday, and will be jumping on a plane straight after to come and see us; and at the moment it's looking like she will be coming with me to pick him up at Larnaka. It's not that long ago I wouldn't have considered subjecting her to a trip like that, which is likely to take between three and five hours all told, and at night too.
