If we're not just talking about stuff that's plainly crazy like the Trevi dash, I quite like the dash on my 500. The interior is still cheap, but it manages to not look quite as cheap as it should

Is that a "windows" button on the steering wheel? :?

That it is. But before there are any jokes, it's not controlling the engine or anything, just the bluetooth and stereo :P

At least it's not an apple!

In all seriousness, if it had an Apple icon on the steering wheel I wouldn't have bought it. I'd sooner make a donation to Al Qaeda than to Apple. ****ing patent terrorists.

I'm trying to recall which early dash (BL I think) had a red band that moved across the dial to show your speed ...

Am I alone in thinking that the Multipla is a fantastic exercise in practicality over styling? It looks such a spacious and practical car!

Definitely not alone. It's a brilliant thing and I shall have to own one before they die out. Don't see many mk1s with the proper bug-eyed headlights about any more though. :?

The only thing I have against it is that it's a people carrier. If I have kids I'm going to always have 3 door cars so I don't have to ferry some other fuckknuckle's kids about.

Can remember as a kid a mate's dad's car having this and I think it was a Vauhall, possible a 101 or an FD ?

That's lovely. Simplicity at its best. The instrument panel looks like a MW/LW car radio!

I for one... Well ok no. I and the Missus for two are actively seeking a Multipla.

a) because it's an MPV cum Estate Car cum three-up Van

B) that carries the baby and the Missus and I, all up front whether the rear seats are back in or not

c) is perhaps a modern day Austin Maxi

But. It must be:

a) the Bug-eyed version

B) in blue or red or copper or green

c) have the dealer sticker: 'Wait until you see the front' still in place

WHY?

Am rather fond of the Alfa 33 (first series) dash

This is my Gold Cloverleaf one

img4042a.jpg

1) The leccy window buttons etc are where I want them. Right there, not up high, not low down or to the right of the column

2) the Trip Computer trips out. Out of sight.

3) the binnacle moves up and down with the column

4) you can put two sharpened pencils in their own part-recessed slots, horizontally, so she can her ladder her stockings

5) the plastic squeaks and cracks just loud enough to remind you you are alive

The Green Cloverleafer is the same, but a tad different

No more than a Tad. But you do get a shonky torch in the pocket of the door card. Tried it, doesn't work.

The Multipla is the exception though. It's just so fantastic. The rest just make me want to lop my genitalia off so I never have to own one.

Feel free to ;)

I love that 33's dash :) Iove the simple shapes and the layout of it. I can see myself getting into that and getting very used to where everything is rather quick.

Notice the hazard switches are ideally placed for the passenger after the stockings have laddered.

I quite like my Maserati 222 SE dash:

But I think the Mk 3 Cavalier / Calibra dash takes some beating in terms of being understated and quietly functional, and it still looks good today IMO.

I'd not put up a pic of the 944 dash, because although the bits you use and see when you are actually driving are fine,

944S2-DASH-ucc.jpg

if you sit back a bit, it's just an aesthetic disaster with buttons & knobs scattered all over the passengers side & everything

& that useful looking cubby on the transmission tunnel is in fact just deep enough to hold cassette tapes on their sides.
