Next year spedeworth will be holding an all rover meeting at Arlington. p4's and p5's only. should be a good en that .

Then theres the all ford cortina meeting at swaffham to mark the cortina's 50th anniversary with the first ones rolling off the production line in 1962 . Big intrest in that meeting aswell.

Not wishing to start the usual shit-fight or anything, but what was the point of posting this???

in an attempt to bridge the gap between the classic car brigade and the banger comunity there will also be an auto jumble held at the all rover meet .

Rover P4s and P5s?

You may as well just put a sign up saying "We wreck what you like, for fun."

Fucking imbecilic, the youngest P4s are damn near 50 years old. Do fuck off and take your pikey thieving mates with you.

Oh, and 1962 is the 50th anniversary, not the 60th.

*Ignore list updated* Wanker.

Is there a way we can make Autoshite difficult to join again? Banger racing is about as far from AS behaviour as it's possible to get.

The shit i can afford to race is all fwd bildge

nissan micra's , almera's, astras , escorts. run of the mill end of life tatt that would be going over the bridge anyway .

I too like to see a nice aunty or p5 on the road .

Id love a cortina on the road too . but the sad fact is I too wouldnt feel safe leaving it anywhere and wouldnt be able to use it :(

I can't see that this thread has been posted for any other reason that to cause upset. Idiotic. The only "successful" thing about the Westy meet is that a lot of people got angry and some grunting mongs got to laugh at the upset they caused. Nice work.

Because rigger boot wearing vermin steal and race them.

Now fuck off.

There's nothing to argue about here, it's all been said before, a few bangers getting smashed up is no big deal, they are getting dropped into the crusher via the weighbridge in droves anyhow. Smashing up rare stuff is just another cry for attention, just like the fat inept office 'joker' photocopying his arse, fueled by the reaction it provokes.

+7 that he's a troll.

Not entirely convinced he's here to extend the hand of friendship between shite lovers and racers. If I were to be cynical I'd suggest he's here to a) troll and B) try and sniff out any potentially cheap banger racing fodder.

Trouble is, it is a big deal. Put a restorable Mark 4 Cortina on Ebay, and it'll sell to someone who will restore it. Ditto a solid Mark 2 Granada. It fucking sickens me to see Westminsters etc on the Oval. I remember these being bangered 30 odd years ago in droves, and a lucky few escaped that fate - just for some other semi literate riggermoron to destroy it for laughs. I guess you can take some consolation in the fact that these Grebos will never have anything nice themselves.

Makes me laugh. The banger fan can't even spell "Success".

I was kinda hoping he would have told me about wht he can't leave a cortina parked !

Unfortunatly thats not the case,i advertised a mark 2 granada 2.8i ghia x on ebay, retro rides, here, old skool ford etc,the only people that actually came to see it were banger racers.

I used to like banger racing, I have decided I dont like it anymore. Too much theft and general unpleasentness.

Also there comes a point where I think trashing a particular model has to stop. There are only so many.

Why else would so many Farinas and Cortinas get stolen?

Also, that racer being killed recently. I kind of hope the H&S people ban it now.

OP is blatantly just trying to wind people up.

I was at hednesford pre 68 . not something i ever want to witness again .

The comments posted on here from some members when i posted the news of dave weare's death was quite frankly disgusting .

Yes, some comments were totally unnecessary, I agree. It was a horrible thing to happen.

x2. Regardless of your feelings, wishing death on someone because you disagree with their hobby is about as low as you can get.

If he was killed stealing a Granada of someones driveway and got electrocuted by his hiab hitting power cables then that might be a different matter but he didn't.

I felt very embarrassed by those comments i can tell you.

No denying that to be fair, it's horrible to hear news like that.

Death in the course of carrying out a hobby or doing sport is certainly a terrible thing. My condolences to the family. However, when banger racers seem to take pride in "racing" the rustiest chod they can find, there's no surprise to hear that somebody died. 99% pf motor racing insists on correctly installed cages and harnesses, where banger racing seems to concentrate on the "couldn't give two fucks" style of safety. After all, what do you weld the cage to? In ordinary motor sport, black flags are up for unnecessary contact...... And also the instructions to stay in the vehicle are adhered to when a collision has occurred (unless fire is involved) until all racing has stopped or the safety car is out. Certainly where I've been involved in Marshalling. We all do things that we know are dangerous, but to start blaming others for it is not on.. I expect the H&S will do the "ton of bricks" routine shortly.

I don't think it had anything to do with cages Albert (though stand to be corrected), I think the poor fella concerned had got out of his car and another vehicle ran into him.

Having been to a couple of racer's yards they certainly did seem to be quite safety concious and the cages and door plates I saw being fitted looked decent work.

Posted

Hence my mentioning of the "staying in the car" bit..... Where I used to go was Prestwood.... I have seen cars go into the pond in the middle during races..... even non-contact stuff. It's like a badge of honour almost to have just a lace doily with engine and wheels attached.......

I remember being at Foxhall a few years ago watching a show (It was the yearly fireworks show) and the same thing nearly happening there, a few cars crashed and a guy got out, seconds later a car hit his one and sent it flying, I'm surprised that no one had been seriously hurt or killed before TBH.

Posted

with out going into details of the crash too much . the safety gear in the car would have done its job .

dave was killed getting out of his car during a race in a tragic accident that the other 2 drivers involved couldn't have avoided.

something that the orci need to stop imo.

If it was only rough examples of cars or cars destined for the crusher that are getting raced then I don't think it would be a problem, however the reports of people paying over a thousand pounds for Austin Westminsters, presumably MOT'd and in decent condition seems to totally be beyond the concept and also proves that banger racers are sensitive to the condition of the vehicles they race.

There is a tidy looking Maxi I have seen recently which is being prepared for Banger Racing, the guy is selling the bits off it, which will be useful, but the hardest parts to find for Maxis are body panels!

I am also a bit worried about a tidy low mileage fairly early Maxi which was put back onto the road last year and sold for around a thousand pounds on e-bay. It has disappeared from the DVLA database, it may of course have been written off in an accident or something but I do wonder if a banger racer had bought it!!

I don't have a problem with banger racing but can't they restrict it to more modern cars or old cars which are genuinely going to be a big job to get on the road or are really only fit for spares? There are always buyers around for old cars, probably more than ever!

I do find it rather ironic that they are celebrating the anniversary of the launch of a car buy wrecking a load!! :?

Thats like celebrating the anniversary of The Beatles buy burning a box of their LP's!

Not wishing to unleash a shitstorm here, but a couple of points:

1) You sell a car, thats it, you have no more say over what happens to it - someone buys it for bangering, well its sad, but its his / her hard earned cash / benefits, and thats whats now in your back pocket. You dont want that to happen dont sell your car. Would you dictate to someone who bought your house what colour to paint the living room? No, well dont do it to someone who buys your car.

2) If the article in the October edition of Practically Brassic was to be believed most of the examples bangered were utter dogs beyond even the most hardened welding enthusiast. The ones that were bangered are mostly stripped of useful bits of trim and brigtwork anyway (which goes to help the ones still on the road).

Yes, I know that many see it as wanton vandalism. I do too.

Yes, I know there is a "thing" amongst banger racers to oval something truly exotic and rare

Yes, I know that cars are nicked to banger and this really needs much tighter regulation (ie producing a log book and bill of sale for any car presented to the oval)

An No I dont like any of the above any more than any other shitters on here. But FFS we have this argument EVERY SINGLE FUPPING TIME someone posts about banger racing.

Posted

plenty of racers will have a mk4/5 cortina in stock in there yards .

These days the mondeo is the tool of choice for most racers. A cortina just couldnt compeate with how hard a car they are so there not hitting the track like they use to week in week out .

other than maybe at british beef at mendips 1s a year.

True and I agree with all your points, but it is always going to cause temperatures to rise on an old car fanatics forum, I don't see how it is avoidable to be honest!

Anyway nothing wrong with a civilised debate its just that it is not likely to stay civilised for long!
