Just an idea I've had for a thread that'll probably sink like Tirpitz back to page 196.

 

We have an eBay thread, and it's terrific, especially for folk like me sitting on a comfy armchair, knowing full well that they'll never buy whatever superb items of chod have been unearthed. But even though my ownership prospect is zero, I still find myself entertaining fantasies of what I might do with various cars if I owned it. This thread is intended as complementary to the eBay Tat thread, a space to discuss ownership fantasies without diluting that thread and making it messy.

Of course, there are cars out there which are best left alone, but, righteous as it would be to restore this to standard / concours, imagine how much more splendid it would be with a bit of 21st century technology under the skin to make it useable, reliable, even fast. The Gammas 2.5 flat four was always a bit incongrous, and developed a habit of snapping belts on full lock which was less than ideal. But what about sliding an alternative boxer under the bonnet? What would a Gamma Coupe be like with a WRX exhaust note?

 

So here goes. Gamma coupe; if I bought that I'd sort the bodywork out and bring it to stock, then I'd like to find a way of swapping the oily bits for a nice Legacy / Impreza (or SVX?!!!11!) set-up.

 

What's your "If I bought that on eBay as a new personal hell project, what I'd do to it is....."?

This'll do for me! Smooth-headlight DS is just crying out for a Mazda RX8 Wankel, attached to a CVT transmission. And left outwardly as Citroen intended, because even now I think it still looks futuristic. I love whitewalls though, so a set on this would suit me nicely. Paint it black or white, with red interior. Look up "smooth" in the dictionary: there should be a picture of my DS!

Bang on the money; DS Birotor. You could only do this with a smoothie, though. A Mk 1 wouldn't seem so appropriate.

The white Mk3 Astra in Trigger's spotting thread:

 

I'd lob some juice in it, change the battery and try and get it fired up. This would be followed by a massive clean/polish/hoover/shine session then a fingers crossed trip to the MOT station. Would love to get it back on the road and just bumble round in it as an everyday car.

If I was a total masochist and had a screw loose, I'd be thinking long and hard about putting a KV6 into an MGF.

 

I'm certain it's a terrible idea, but I'm sure the awesomeness would outweigh the terribility.

As do I. I always wanted to stick a Honda Legend 3.5 V6 into my old 820, but my current dream project is either a BMW dizzler powered Scimitar, or a Renault Espace with a mid-mounted Mercedes OM422.

I understand that the engines bolt straight in (the same as they do on Volkswagens)*

 

Mrs. barefoot is toying with a different job with on street car parking, not the luxury of a staff car park.

The 944 is not a good motor to leave on a busy street in her opinion so she's asked me to look out for a

red two seater for her...

 

Naturally my mind when straight to a Citroen C15 with some extensive sound-proofing and re-upholstery.
